Nice breakfast but the room was cold (as it was also outside). It was nice to be able to have a conversation with friends and be able to hear each other. Lunch and Dinner menu look to be delicious !
We had a wonderful experience the last time we went. There were 8 adults and two toddlers, they were more than accommodating. The food is always great, they were unbelievably busy yet managed to get us in. It took a bit to get our food, but well worth the wait. They comped us, for they wait which was totally unexpected, but very appreciated. We’ve been there numerous times and plan to go there many more times. Thank you all for such a great day, it was our first first family meal without our mother and their hospitality was unequaled. See you all soon.
Great food, creative menu, decent service. It can be a bit loud.
Great service, great food, great cocktails, neat location.
Chose Holman's based on reviews for my Mom's birthday. We started with the brussel sprouts and poutine for starters. Everyone enjoyed the brussel sprouts. Poutine had good flavor but the fries were soggy, even the ones not covered with cheese or gravy. It was disappointing that serving utensils were not provided for the starters. These were shared among five people and we had to used our own forks to dish out the food onto the small plates provided. Clean forks and knifes were not provided for our entrees. Something I would expect in a restaurant at this price point. My son ordered the bone in ribeye which he said was really good but enjoyed the mashed potatoes even more. My dad had the chicken roulade. He said the chicken was really juicy and flavorful. My mom said the salmon was cooked perfectly but the squash risotto was too sweet and mushy. My husband and I had the short ribs. It was essentially a melt in your mouth pot roast with excellent flavor. We both would definitely order this again. We ordered two of the salted caramel pot de crème for the table. They were enjoyed by all. My gin and tonic was nothing special and will try something different next time. Overall, fun and tasty choice for the birthday celebration.
We had dinner at Holman's Table and were blown away by the sturgeon preparation that was on the menu that night. The fish was gently grilled and served in a spicy, clear fish broth with huge butter beans and kale. Sort of a riff on a Portuguese fisherman's stew except that the fish was cooked separately, keeping it really succulent. I don't know if my description does it justice. We would go back for that dish alone! And, we loved that the chef (or an assistant) brought the dish to our table.
The steak tartare appetizer was good, but not as impressive as the main course. The very friendly waiter suggested the pecan tart for dessert. It was deliciously decadent and should have been shared by four people. However, we managed to eat every bite! There was a short, selective list of local craft beer and serviceable wine list. The servers were attentive, informative, and professional.
Holman's Table has a very nice vibe. The new mid-century decor is fun; the patrons all seemed very happy to be there on a cold night. Walking through the small "gate" area, with its inviting sofas and chairs, for those catching a flight, or just having a cocktail, adds a little retro mystique. Great added benefit is that there's ample free parking, yet it's just a short drive beyond "downtown" St. Paul. We found it very handy as a place to dine before going to a performance at the Ordway. We will be back!
Happy birthday, Holman's Table! Still a favorite spot. Love the much-needed menu refresh. Keep up the good work.
LOVED this place. It came recommended by my sister, and we were not disappointed in the least! EXCELLENT food (had the Vat 17 Burger). Fries were awesome as well. VERY good service, beautifully decorated inside. HIGHYLY recommend! Cannot say enough good things about this place.
We were a large group, but we had a reservation. We arrived on time, but waited 15-20 minutes to be seated. Once we were seated, it was another 15-20 minutes before anyone brought us water or took a drink order, then another 15-20 minutes for us to order food. Apparently they were understaffed, but no one said "sorry for the wait." I've had a good experience at Holman's Table in the past, and I was taking a family group there as a treat. So I was very disappointed in the slow, inattentive service.
Great food, great setting, especially for avaition fans. Can’t wait to go back!
Large groups - forget it if your have 10+ people. They cannot put table together I guess since it is a small space. And, if you have a large group, make your reservation at least 3 months in advance. Good food but pricey.
Great place and setting! Food is outstanding, I had the short rib which was excellent. My dining partner had the scallops which were done to perfection.
Started with a helicopter ride agne arrived early for our reservation but was able to be seated! Our server, also the bar tender Brad, provided excellent and timely service, recommended a wonderful cab and made sure we were well tended along with other staff. The background music was pleasant and of a volume where we could chat and hear each other. The appetizers and dinner were perfectly cooked and tasty (salmon, steak, and short ribs) and were took some home to try dessert. Since we couldn't make up our minds on dessert, we shared 4 of the 5 (for 3 people) and each had more than enough of our favorite with an after dinner drink! We will return :)
The grilled sturgeon with the butter bean base was wonderful!
Overall very good eating experience. We had a table of 4 but were not crowded. Waitress was fantastic. Food was exceptional. We had chicken, salmon, sturgeon and a hamburger; all good portions and worth their value. We did however have the cheese and olive plate appetizer that was a bit over priced for the amount of food that was on it.
The food is beyond delicious to say the least. The restaurant staff is extremely helpful and professional. The ambiance is intimate and comfortable. This is our new go-to restaurant in St. Paul. The steak off the kids menu is super tender and tasty, the risotto is the best I’ve had in years, can’t say enough good things. We would recommend Holman’s Table to everyone.
I was meeting friends who I see once a month. Most of us are in our 70's and the noise level was
so high that we could not hear each other. We had to lean in and listen close to catch conversation.
I had heard recommendations that the food was very good. I found it ok. the french onion soup was amazing. The Reuben sandwich was on very thick bread (too thick ). The steak salad was a "do it yourself" salad. Meat not cut and two wedges of lettuce. Wine was at least $10. per glass. I hate to complain, but the food was only ok for the prices.
I wanted to write a glowing review because I have had so many friends raving about Holmans Table and I don't want to tell them my visit was just "meh." I took a friend for a birthday lunch and the noise level was so high that we ended up shouting at each other until we just quit trying to have a conversation. Unfortunately we were seated near a large group table and they were celebrating an occasion too, as they had every right to do, but it certainly ruined our experience! We had wine, shared the very good beet salad and the crab cakes which we thought were just ok. (I thought the crab cakes were a very small portion for $17.00) We also ordered bread which was very dry and tasteless but our server did remove it from the bill. It's really hard for me to understand any restaurant in this city having bad bread! For dessert we had the blood orange cake which was very good and different from the usual fare. So overall there are things I liked and I don't write a place off from one visit. Husband and I will try again for dinner.
We had brunch and had a wonderful time! The food was fantastic & service was terrific!
It was super noisy. It took 90 minutes for brunch - terrible with refills on coffee. Water smells like fish but cool place but kind of pricey and portions aren’t huge.
Service was great, surprised at how quickly our drink orders were met. Server (Trevor) was professional, quick, and offered suggestions/answered our questions.
Small mistake in our bill discovered by my Type-A partner was quickly corrected.
Very good and creative food with excellent service. However, the noise level was such as to preclude actual conversation and makes it unlikely that we'll be back.
In a eery unique spot, Holman's Table is a warm, comfortable, cozy spot. We were seated in a corner table that was part booth/part table. The booth was very comfortable and it was nice that there were pillows you could put behind you. I don't remember our server's name but he was very friendly, knowledgable and informative. He made 2 suggestions to us, one being the salmon with a creamy risotto with cranberries, squash and asparagus that was amazing and the other was a pear pastry dessert that was unlike anything we've ever had before or would have ordered and it was delicious! We were very impressed with our food and will definitely be going back there. I highly recommend it.
Pork tenderloin and airline chicken could be improved. Loved hanger steak and mushroom toast.
Awesome location, nice ambiance, great food. We will be back!
Loved everything about it!
Our party of (4) heard about Holmans and wanted to try it out. We loved the food and creative cocktails. Wait staff is great! The Hangar steak was so tender and very tasty. We tried (3) starters and all were great. The restaurant is a little out of the way (we live our n Bloomington) but so worth it. Love the location and will definitely be back for more enjoyable and fun meals.
I was looking forward to going here for a while. I was disappointed in the ambiance as well as frustrated that our server was rude when we only ordered wine and an appetizer. We went at 5pm, which seems like a normal time in the week to expect happy hour goers.
Delightful venue. Great ambiance, cocktails, inspired food. Quiet enough for mom and dad. Hip enough for the rest of the world. Off the beaten path. One of my favorite Twin City restaurants
None of us enjoyed our food which I thought was very expensive. My Reuben tasted like it was on toast rather than grilled. Nice building.
This is my new spot for brunch! Three of us met on New Year's Day and enjoyed French toast, bacon, poutine, corned beef hash, and on National Bloody Mary Day, of course we indulged!! Fun place to gather. Noise level a little load, but it is muffled by comfy leather seating with pillows along the banquette seating overlooking the runway. Prices very reasonable, great service and plenty of parking. Off the beaten track, but fun, retro vibe.
Crab cake Benedict was amazing!!
Wonderful restaurant in a unique historical location - you feel you might have been transported back in time to get a great last minute meal before leaving on a jet plane to international locales. Comfort food with a twist. I have had nearly everything on the menu: mushroom toast to die for, great pesto pasta, pork, airplane chicken, risotto and hamburgers to die for. Wine menu is good although usually we bring our own with a corkage fee. Service is attentive and ambience is great for romantic dinners (we were there New Year's Eve), a business meal during the day - very close to downtown St Paul - and fun for brunch on weekends. What's not to like?!!! A St Paul GEM.
Holmans Table is a gem located in the old St. Paul airport operations building built in the 1930s. The food is wonderful, mostly local, and creatively prepared. I have had several meals here and never been disappointed. Nice cocktail menu as well with local spins on some old favorites. We eat here often, and he brought several friends who all concur that the menu and dining are excellent!
Fabulous location/ food excellent
An anomaly, perhaps. But, perhaps not. Whereas in three previous visits in the past two weeks I was able to substitute a single pancake for toast when ordering the lamb omelette (outstanding!), our otherwise excellent and congenial server adamantly insisted this was owing to confusion in re menu and should not have been—and would not be—an option. Result: For the price of principle equivalent to one pancake, I left confused and disappointed by the tone deaf lack of appreciation for my clear appreciation of Holman’s Table as reflected by numerous repeat visits. Live and learn.
Having visited just this once, I can't write a proper review from all recommendations. But, I can speak to a couple of them -- and I was super impressed.
Can't want to come back to Holman's Table for happy hour, dinner, and other events!
I had a marvelous date that evening so I may be just looking at this through rose colored glasses. Brad, the barkeep and waiter, was knowledgeable, friendly and appropriately attentive. The cocktail (gin & tonic) was particularly delicious. My date is a vegetarian and loved her meal. I had steak and veggies and loved my meal. The building is so easy to access and has a cool Eisenhower-era good-government panache unlike I've ever seen in a restaurant. I expected to see Carey Grant and Eva Marie Saint at the next table. So pleasantly surprised several times in one evening coming to a place I had never heard of until it was recommended to me earlier in the week.
