Our anniversary. Holly Hock is a special place for us to go.
Room was quite cold upon seating. Service was VERY slow. Dinner took us over two hours due to slow service. Waitress was very apologetic and nice, however we had long wait times.
Things have changed a lot at the restaurant that hosted the Rehearsal Dinner for my wedding six years ago. Good food remains, but the classy dining experience I so enjoyed is no more. Perhaps it is a reflection of how society is more casual, but I missed the table clothes and hot towelettes.
First time but not our last. So good. Thank you for making birthday dinner so special.
Delicious fried chicken! Not going to wait for a birthday or event. We’ll be doing carry out!
Very nice Sunday dinner!! The food is great as is the service!! Always a good choice!!
We brought our family of five; three are Chinese host students. Their favorite food is fried chicken, so when they ate two platters full, we weren’t surprised. The chicken has to be the best anywhere. Our waiter was a delight. He was attentive and very pleasant. We HIGHLY recommend Hollyhock Hill for anyone who either hungers for their grandmother’s Sunday dinners or wish they’d experienced that old time favorite.
Fantastic dining experience. Had to take food home because there was so much served, just couldn't finish it all. Best chicken dinner ever!
Great as always!!! Best fried chicken in Indy!!!keep up the great tradition!!!!
I’ve never been to a restaurant where family style is advertised, but you somehow pay per person. I get a $25 bowl of spaghetti at Buca di Beppo, it’s $25. But at Hollyhock Hill, it cost $32 per person for 2 pieces of chicken and 4 shrimp. Yes, the fried chicken was ok. But it was not the best in Indiana. It lacked seasoning. Both me and my wallet prefer Joella’s. Our server was good. It just cost way too much money for what it was. Also, on the night in question, the hostess was wearing an oversized t-shirt and precisely no pants. My friend was seated behind the hostess stand, and he saw A LOT. Will not return.
Everything was way below expectations including the server. Meal with tip was $70. Better off going to Popeyes or KFC. That way the food would have been much better and we would have saved $50!!!! Green beans and corn were obviously out of a can. Cottage cheese was horrible as well as the gravy. Gravy was not edible. The gizzards and livers were like rubber. Took them home for the dog and she would not eat them! Had to beg for more biscuits..
A total disaster and a waste of time and money!
My boyfriend and I traveled from Muncie to try this restaurant at his parents' recommendation. We knew we were taking a gamble by driving more than an hour each way on a place neither of us had been before, and it definitely paid off. We shared the chicken dinner and still brought home leftovers. The food was amazing, but bittersweet for me as I felt like I was back at my grandma's house as a kid having post-church lunch. I have already recommended this place a few times since Saturday night, and will continue to recommend this place.
Chris, out waiter was very attentive to our needs. Chicken as always was the best!! My husband was missing the mint sauce topping for the ice cream
We spent a LOT of time just waiting. Our waitress was spread pretty thin over the whole room - the only one. She was a good waitress but no one could do a good job with the large party next to us and several other tables besides. Disappointed.
We brought our grandaughter and her husband from Florida. They truly enjoyed the family style food, and the uniqueness of the setting. This was their first visit.
The chicken was not seasoned as well as we have had in the past. Also the only part
of the bird we recognized was the leg.
We come in six times a year because the flavor of the chicken has always been the
the best in the state.
We suspected you have new owners.?
Memory of a loved one’s birthday
Simple food done well. Excellent service. Felt like having dinner at my Southern grandma’s house.
This is an amazing place for Baby Boomers and their families. We had great service from Scott! The place needs a face lift as it feels kind of dowdy, please get rid of the carpeting. Overall, a nice experience for family time and good home cookin'!
We always get the fried chicken dinner. The ultimate comfort food for us. The subtle changes made since the restaurant changed owners have been great. Thankfully, the chicken has not changed. The guests at the table next to us got the chocolate cake, which we'd never tried (or seen). We shared one and wow, we were not disappointed - it was amazing!
Potatoes and corn were served first and had to wait about five minutes for everything else. Wish everything could have been served together. Have been dining with you for over 50 years and that was the FIRST time it occurred. Food was fabulous as usual.
Every time we visit Hollyhock Hill, it gets better and better. Absolutely delicious meal!!
Our waiter, Dean, was excellent! The food was wonderful! However, I don’t salt my food at home and I was having a little trouble with the apparent high salt content in all the food.
Also, beware, we had four children ages 12 and under and four adults in our party. We were charged for five adult meals and three children’s meals. I plan to discuss this with Hollyhock Hill staff when they are open. I was of the understanding that age 12 children were charged $10, not $25.
I have friend that comes into town twice a year and Hollyhock is always on our list of places to eat.
The food is exceptional and the service impeccable.
As usual everything about Holly Hock Hill was superb.
We have even coming to HH once a year for over 20 years for our wedding anniversary dinner. Over those years HH has not changed much. However, since last year, we noticed a definite change in food and ambiance. First, table linens we're missing. The bare tables gave the impression of a cheap roadside cafeteria. What happened? Regarding food, what happened to the radishes? Where did the lettuce wedge go? Getting over that, the rest of the meal was excellent. Getting real mashed potatoes was a plus (instant potatoes was the norm in the past). At this point, not sure if we'll return.
Actually made us ill....Yikes! It all tasted pretty good, but several hours later we both felt unwell. It was the only thing that we had eaten that day.
so disappointed had not been thee for number of years usually go iron skillet but wanted to see about space to have birthday party chicken was not cooked to order could tell it had been sitting potatoes had lumps gravy cold green beans under cooked just was not good meal have changed salad I will be going back to iron skillet when I want this type meal also taking my party there
We celebrated a birthday and it was a great choice. The chicken was amazing. White meat was juicy and every piece of chicken was deliciously crispy, not greasy! The birthday boy had an old fashion cocktail and verified it as the best old fashion he has ever had. The service was terrific and the atmosphere was very conducive to conversation.
The fried chicken was great as usual. My dad ordered the filet, however, and said it was absolutely tasteless.
My husband and I had a wonderful experience. Our server was awesome and very attentive to our needs. We enjoyed our entrees and even took home a bottle of their salad dressing. I would defiantly recommend this restaurant for a wonderful family meal.
We had eaten at Hollyhock Hill numerous times prior to the new owner taking over and absolutely loved it. The fried chicken and ALL of the fixins were amazing. The ambiance was perfect. Always and enjoyable place to take out of town guests. That is gone. The chicken was bland and boring and tasted like stale grease; Not the yummy lard fried chicken of the past. The mashed potatoes were flavorless. the ice cream at the end was of poor quality. The $8.00 cheesecake was a cheap box mix. They charged for a customarily complementary cup of after dinner coffee. And the ambiance is gone. No more tablecloths. Pretty sterile and cold environment now. What a shame the new owner didn't see fit to stick with the exquisite Hollyhock Hill tradition!
Hollyhock has lost some of it's luster from years ago. Many of the old favorites are gone. Portions are smaller while the price was higher. Relish tray, macaroni salad, peppermint ice cream, etc... gone. Waiters were seating people as no hostess was found. It was sad to see.
Fantastic yesteryear place - Eisenhower is President, unemployment is low, and we write letters instead of emails. The food is terrific comfort food but first class all the way.
We went here for a family bday and I mentioned that in the reservation and they sat us at the table right bt the door to the kitchen. It was terrible.
On top of that our waitor was terrible. He would disappear for long periods of time and never brought back the mashed potatoes or greenbeans that we tequested be refilled.
The salad is terrible. The only dressing is something they have on the table which was like oil . Had no yaste at all. The best part about it was the biscuits, fried chicken and gravey. The rest was okay but not great.
Our table eas so slanted that things would roll of.
Over rated and over priced!
I think The Eagle on Mass Ave downtown is way better. It's family style as well and much, much better.
Loved it, very friendly admisfer, my waiter was excellent and helpful.
8 years ago I proposed marriage to my wife. We like to come back and remember that special day. The food and service is always so good. Makes a memorable evening.
We can always count on Hollyhock Hill for consistently good food. The fried chicken and veggies were superb as always, and the pickled beets are a favorite that are without equal. Wonderful meal!
Love to see all the family gatherings.
My recent dining experience was less than expected. Based upon many, many years of dining at Hollyhock Hill, I was disappointed with food, ambience and service. While I expected menu changes along with some style changes with the sale of the restaurant, my previous dining experiences under new ownership and management were fine but last Saturday evening I was very disappointed. Hope it was just an off night.
