We had not been back to Hollyhock Hill since the new proprietors took over two years ago. WOW! What a difference some TLC makes in everything. We took some friends there and we were really pleased with every aspect.

The fried chicken was fabulous! I consider myself a bit of a fried chicken expert and this was truly great. And another big difference were the mashed potatoes - clearly made from scratch.

The service was great and we enjoyed talking with the owners. I was so happy with the experience and glad we took our friends.

We had not visited Hollyhock Hill for many years, but came because our realtor gave us a gift certificate for us and our twin daughters and their families. We will certainly consider Hollyhock Hill the next time we have a special occasion. Thanks for your excellent service and great food!

Very nice atmosphere. Nice plates. Cool server. Nice music. Food was delicious, but not enough chicken for the price. Testing out for my graduation in May.

Miss the table cloths, did not like the bare table tops, plus it made for a noisy room, music was a little loud for my taste and ears. Our server was not the best but possibly it was not her fault as she seemed to be covering a rather large area and lots of tables. Food was served warm, had to ask for extra gravy and then container to take it home at least 2 times. On our reservation told them we were celebrating husband's 70th birthday, she forgot until she brought the bill and gave him a very rushed HBD wish. Not the HHH I remember service wise, food was as good as I remember, even if it wasn't served to us hot.

This was 3 generations of our family celebrating a birthday for a cancer survivor. Everything was wonderful!!! I have been to Hollyhock Hill for big celebrations all my life. I love the family style meals and the place it like going into the past for me. The waitress was very sweet and always helpful. The food delicious. We did have our grandchildren with us. I am sorry to the sorehead at a table behind us who commented that our children were noisy. My reply, sometimes joy is noisy.
Thank you Hollyhock Hill for another great family memory made with your help. We will be back!

What a charming place! There were 11 of us in town working at various locations in the city. We wanted to find a location where everyone could meet for a group dinner and this was as central a location as we could find to make a reservation. What a nice surprise-it was very pleasant and we had a great dinner and were able to easily visit and converse. Food was wonderful-plenty of it and it was good old Indiana down home dinner. I would highly recommend and look forward to returning again.

Must have picked a bad night. Slow service and most of the side dishes were room temperature or cold, biscuits were hard. At one point it looked like one waitress was covering the room were I was sitting. The fried chicken was fresh, hot, and tasty. This was my first visit here, I would give it another try.

People still go because of what this was... such a cute spot... just like grandmas... although her food would be warm, her table and all serving ware clean, and food delicious! Loved the atmosphere. The service was fast and attentive.... just not what I expected with the food. Chicken was dry... sides were average and cold. Salad was a bag of iceberg... just nothing to go back for! Sad we didn’t pick a better spot before our show at Butler.

At first I was a bit disappointed that you only got two pieces of chicken with the dinner. But then the salad and pre-entre food came, then the main course came and after eating my two pieces of chicken and all the plentiful sides, I barely had room for the ice cream for desert. What a wonderful experience.

It was our first time visiting Hollyhock Hill. Overall, it was a good experience. If you you are looking for a retro experience, more timeless than dated, this is a good option. The family style is more suitable to larger parties than a party of two. It is a lot of homestyle, stick to your ribs, eating. Not the place to go if you are looking for a light meal, but a fun way to share a meal with a larger group of family or friends.

Chicken looked as if it was prepared and put under a heat lamp. Potatoes were just above room temperature. Noise level was very loud due to a table of 8-10 who must had been celebrating a special event. Food not as good as it use to be.

We love celebrating special occasions at Hollyhock! This past Sunday it was our daughter’s confirmation. Some of our most special celebrations have been around the Hollyhock dining table... including our rehearsal dinner for our wedding. My parent’s rehearsal dinner was there as well... in 1958.

My friend and I were seated in an area with 2 groups of 12. It was quite noisy.
Our food was delicious, the wait staff was attentive, and the decor is what one would expect.
Have one suggestion. Please add more handicap parking.
Thanks for listening.

We have been coming to Hollyhock Hill for a number of years. The food has always been delicious. We had been unable to come for about a year and the new owner has changed the menu (to the better), so we were concerned about the taste of our old favorites. Wow! How can you improve fantastic? Well, you did!!! Everything was wonderful. Working up a date for bringing family in very soon.

Thank you for making the great even better.

Coming from Southwestern Indiana and the likes of The Log Inn and the famous Chicken Place near Jasper we came to Hollyhock with an open mind. The quaint white building reminded me of walking into Grandma's house. We were warmly welcomed to our reservation. We had a wonderful large round table in the corner and our waiter Chris was very kind, knowledgeable and took great care of my 1 year old son. If I were rating just the fried chicken I would give a lower score simply because I felt it lacked flavor and spices but don't get me wrong its fried chicken its hard for anything fried to taste bad. The salad, cold items and all side dishes were delicious and hot. The gravy is the star of the show - they should take a note from the gravy recipe and add more flavor to the chicken. The adorable ice cream at the end of the meal made me feel nostalgic for a simpler time and my grandfather would have truly enjoyed this place. We will be back and hope to make it a family tradition with our son.

Noise level was due to a noisy child. Host forgot to give my table number to server so we sat for 15 min after being seated with no attention. I finally asked a server who was waiting on my table. Service was great after that.

We went to dinner the day before Valentine's due to work schedules on Valentine's day. It was a nice quiet dinner by the fireplace. We enjoyed the family style chicken dinner. It was delicious! The bonus was we didn't have to rush because no-one was waiting for our table! Our waiter was great too! See you again soon.

The food was excellent. Service was a little slow but okay. I liked the openess of the first 2 rooms but the gray color was not in keeping with the restaurant's traditional magical decor. In fact, the gray was depressing. A yellow or robin egg blue paint job would do wonders and garden scenes on the walls would be better yet.

The rooms were full of customers and very noisy. The exposed beautiful woodwork around the windows was appealing, but some window treatments or ceiling tiles to absorb the noise would greatly enhance the ambiance.

Overall, we enjoyed the food and friendly waiters and will return. But PLEASE paint or cover those gloomy gray walls.

As always, the food was excellent. There was so much food served, almost everyone had enough to take home for another meal. HOWEVER, the noise level was atrocious. So, I don't recommend going on Saturday night!
They do not advertise their early bird specials (M-F) on their website, but they should.
Overall, everyone enjoyed the get-together and the meal.
I had updated the number of reservations from 7 to 9 on Open Table the day before, but the restaurant was not notified of the change. Suggest Open Table make sure to notify. They had to scramble and finally fit 9 of us at a table for 8, which made it very crowded.
