I realize things are still post-COVID, so don’t want to be too harsh, but service (though very nice) was slow and somewhat inattentive. Everything was a little off (there was, for example, a dirty steak knife in the middle of the dining room floor, which our server stepped right over without a thought … I picked it up and walked it to
the server station; no attempts to refill our water or come back to ask if we wanted more drinks… etc.). The security out front (with ID checks) is bonkers. Menu is somewhat pared-down from what I remember. Just felt a little sad - like this restaurant is late-stage and needs some love - which is terrible because it’s my favorite restaurant in Boston.
We were served a piece of raw chicken.
Food was great but selection was limited. The service was excellent.
We love hojoko. So creative, so much fun, delicious food and an enjoyable experience
10/10 experience. The decor and the restaurant itself are so trendy and fun. The food was so yummy. You should order the kimchi fried rice, it was mouth watering. Also, the fish in their sushi is so fresh, I could tell as soon as I saw it.
Just get everything. It's all the best.
Great restaurant, and perfect place before a Red Sox game.
Great spot. My children and I enjoyed it a lot. I would recommend it.
Always love a visit to Hojoko!
The food at Hojoko is amazing. The flavor combinations are phenomenal - everything is so delicious. We ate most items on the menu - the sushi, the small plates - brussels, cauliflower, kimchi fried rice, wings, ramen - it was all amazing. Our favorite was the shrimp kimchi fried rice. I've eaten at Hojoko many time and took out of town guests last night and it did not disappoint. Top quality and inventive. Most Boston restaurants are basic with your more inventive restaurants in Cambridge and Somerville and this is one of the best on the Boston side of the river.
No better place to hang out with friends following an event at Fenway. Great service, great atmosphere, and the best "bar food" in town. It's our go-to place in Back Bay for casual dining and drinks.
Was delicious and we had great service! My only constructive criticism was that the music was loud and explicit.
As someone who has lived in Japan and always wanted to see casual food/drinking izakaya in Boston, Hojoko is a dream come true. Every item came out hot from the kitchen and some were creative takes on Japanese originals. Fried chicken was excellent as was the eggplant, the sushi, etc. The okonomiyaki was a bit undercooked but it was unusual. Service was fantastic and our young server went out of her way to make us comfortable. I can't wait to go back there and treat my children!!
I love this restaurant. They have awesome cocktails and an innovative menu. Their servers are all outstanding and very friendly.
It was kinda expensive for what it was but lovely outdoor space and good food. So I would definitely go again.
Great service, great food and security was really nice to us! We haven’t been to Hojoko since before COVID, but we returned this past weekend and they did not let us down. Their patio was great for outdoor dining and we will be back soon!
Casual vibe, great drinks, good food, I little loud when I visited, however there was a baseball game that night which may account for the noise level.
Indoor seating was too dark otherwise the food was great
Sorry they changed the eggplant. It used to be light and flavorful and new version is heavy in texture and flavor.
The shrimp toast was incredible! Their cocktails are delicious and super fun. It can get super loud indoors on game days, but we sat outside and it was perfect.
Service and ambiance was great. Hojoko is a fun lively experience. The sushi was really great, and the share plates were good too. Mixed drinks fell flat for us. Overall really fun night.
The hostess was very un respectful. I will not go back there until they find another hostess. I will not recommend it. You can eat the same food for cheaper in other restaurants and having a good time. Also in other restaurants you can be treated with respect and feel comfortable for returning again. I Will NOT RECOMMENDED!!! DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!
Everything was excellent, but the food came out incredibly quickly - we ordered small plates and ramen, and it all just kind of came out rapid fire, loading up on the table. We were looking forward to a meal that had a little bit more of an even pace, so that part was a bit of a miss, and it felt a bit rushed. But again, the food was delicious, the server was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance fun.
Food and our server were great. While it’s about small plates- they were a little quick to clear dishes. When you’re still chewing & they have their hand already on your plate- asking became a formality because they already picked it up before you could could swallow and answer.
This was a great choice as was looking for something healthy before going to Sox game. We ordered vegetables & sushi which came out very fast so we were able to see the first pitch! I highly recommend the roasted brussel sprouts and charred cauliflower as both excellent!
Great food, lovely ambiance, and friendly staff. We tried lots of different dishes and the staff were really patient and friendly with us. Thank you for making the experience for my 2 boys (10 & 12) just amazing!
Wish the menu was a bit bigger but over all so excellent
I have been here quite a few times this year. I have consistently had excellent food, service and drink. I highly recommend and am so glad that they continue to work hard to offer us such a great experience. The pandemic has been tough for many but Hojoko has sailed through without loosing their quality of experience. We are lucky to have them in town and I am happy to return to visit again. I look forward to my next visit. Enjoy!
The Shitake sushi and salmon nigiri was very delicious. However the Sando wagyu burger was overrated and over priced. It tasted like nothing special. I would not recommend it. The Tokyo green tea cocktail was more on the alcoholic side. I would have liked to have had more green tea flavor. I did not taste any green tea flavor. We found the seating too close together. The music was too loud and we found it hard to hear each other talk. It would be good for larger gatherings. The atmosphere is more a bar or pub than a restaurant.
Great food! It was an unexpected treat: the food came out fast, the edamame and fried chicken and rice plates were delicious (some thought the rice was too spicy: I thought it was just right!).
Good beer list as well, though there was no Sauvignon Blanc on the wine list (I’d recommend a good Marlborough/ New Zealand white: every woman I know love it).
Great service from our waitress and the other way staff who ran food out to our table!
We will be back.
Hojoko never disappoints! Everything was amazing from start to finish. ❤️
Overall three stars due to one glaring issue. We were a table of four, with two arrived early and had a drink at the bar. When the full party was there, we would not be seated until the bar tab was settled. Fair play, but here is where the main issue arose. The bar service was horrible. There were at least four people behind the bar, but no one would take our payment. Finally we paid and were seated. The waitress took our cocktail orders, and after awhile came back for our food orders. No cocktails had arrived yet. The food arrived, and still no cocktails. Finally cocktails arrived to enjoy with the food. We were sure to order more rounds of drinks, but the super slow service killed that. The food and the waitstaff were good, but lack of timely execution from the bar killed any chance of ordering more than one drink. It’s a shame and a loss as we would have spent more.
Everything I was hoping for. Cannot wait to go back!
The kimchi rice is one of my favorite dishes. The fried chick is very flavorful and the sushi rolls all have unique ingredients and flavors. Always a great dinner for a date night. Miss the sushi roulette though!
We loved Hojoko and will definitely be back! Was the perfect spot to dine before a concert and dine outdoors the night of a concert to hear the music. Excellent food and attentive service, too!
Might be a good idea to prominently advertise that your menu is drastically reduced during "Concert Week".
The website might be a good place. smh
We sat outside which was wonderful. Our server was amazing and accommodated our unusual cocktail request of curating the best cocktails for our meal, which was above and beyond. Couldn't recommend Hojoko highly enough. Best restaurant in Boston!
I often go to Hojoko before Sox games, and I love the place. They have great cocktails and lots of delicious small plates.
This a fun place to bring anyone, but we had an especially great time pre-game out by the pool. Great food, great service, great ambiance.
Great food as always
