The Hive Pavilion with wrap-around patio & a seasonal addition of the Top Marquee each offering far-reaching sea views and evening sunsets to each table.

Decided to try it out, saw on FB a few times, was far from being disappointed . Well worth the long drive, will definitely be back.

First of all the parking is confusing when trying to pay. The machine takes cash but not credit cards and you would need to download a specific parking app to pay by telephone, one that we didn’t have. However, if you go to the National Trust hut they will take your credit card and issue a receipt. Signing needs to be better as many people were confused. However as it is a National Trust car park you won’t get a ticket if you choose not to pay. I mention the above because staff within the Hive Cafe are unable to change notes for coins if you are seeking to pay by cash and don’t have any with you. Our reservation was for the top marquee and you have to register at the main restaurant desk and will be escorted to the top. There was only one person doing this so at times a queue built up with people waiting to be seated, fortunately is was a Monday and not too busy. We were seated at a front table with lovely views over the beach and sea, a really nice setting. Staff were excellent and attentive quickly taking our drinks order and giving us time to choose our food from the lunch menu. Whilst mainly seafood based there were other options including chicken. Both drinks and food arrived reasonably quickly and was of excellent quality, we both chose the king prawns. We did have to ask for a waste bucket but test was no problem. We would have liked a finger bowl or wet serviette as peeling prawns is messy but we weren’t given those and maybe that could be looked at. After our mains were cleared away we were offered deserts and can recommend the Dorset apple cake with was delicious. Overall a very pleasant lunch with good quality locally sourced ingredients and excellent service from all the staff were encountered.

What a beautiful place to eat a meal. Lovely atmosphere, great food, the waiting staff were friendly and attentive, decent portion sizes.

The service was poor. We weren’t given a glass for a tonic water and when we asked for one we were given a pint glass for a small bottle and not offered ice etc. No nutcrackers for the lobster, the finger bowl I asked for arrived about an hour later and I had to ask for a bucket for shells - we had a seafood platter at nearly £100 so I expected it to arrive with the basics. The house wine was poor quality and there was no choice if you wanted just a glass. We went to Hive an each years ago and it was great but now feels like a cheap chain with very young staff. We won’t be returning.

Our first visit and wow what a lovely time we had. The food was fantastic along with the service and the location was perfect. We will be returning customers first sure and will bring friends and family along too. Thank you

The seafood is fresh and delicious, the staff are efficient and friendly. It's not cheap but still good value for money considering what you get for your £. What's not to like. Will definitely visit again.

Been visiting for a long time, have really noticed a decline in how flavoursome the food is. Fish and chips for £20, really not worth it anymore yet before I would have happily paid more. No mushy peas yesterday, apparently it’s a seasonal thing but nothing offered instead. Chips I couldn’t eat, just tasteless and some very overcooked. Wasps everywhere, appreciate it’s an open setting but there are things you can use to help. No one asked how the food was and asked 3 times for the bill and felt pressured to leave a tip. We traveled from Bath just for lunch as we have always enjoyed it but sadly not yesterday.
