Here, on the Central Coast of California, BBQ has always meant grilling over an open fire of red oak, a style of cooking that is native to our area and goes back to the days of the Spanish Rancheros. By combining the old and the new, we have created an exciting cuisine with outstanding steaks, ribs and chicken, along with fresh fish and seafood and vegetarian options. My favorite restaurant. Food is not a value but in this case you get what you pay for. Wines choices made by the owner are great. Tell your server if you are on a date you want slow dinner and they don't mind. Gone 2 times and while not everything on the menu is a home run every thing is good. Highly recommend the top sirloin. Will make a point of stopping here for dinner if anywhere near this area.
Made a valentines reservation at 6:50 for a time of 7:15. It wasn't there before so there must have been a cancellation. We live in Buellton, so we just drove over. We have been there a number of times and always enjoy it. The shrimp appetizer is very good. The baked potato is always cooked perfectly. I also always enjoy the filet mignon.
Saturday was an off night for the Hitching Post. Steaks were under-cooked with little seasoning. Noise level seemed unusually loud. Waitress was robotic. We’ve been there many times before. Brought guests for the “local” experience and great steaks. All four of us were disappointed, which is not typical for us.
This is easily our favorite restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is top notch. Everyone that works there has been there long term and they are quick and know what they are doing. They understand it’s a pricey place and it shows. It’s always a pleasure eating there.
This is a good restaurant with excellent steak offerings. We went there for Santa Ynez Valley Restaurant Week which made it a great value. They had lots of different choices on their restaurant week menu which is different than some restaurants that only offer a few options. The only issue with the restaurant is that it is very noisy.
Had a wonderful dinner with my wife. We had a ribeye steak and baby back ribs. They were both greatly cooked and delicious! Also came with a green salad with came with 2 deep fried goat cheese balls. Awesome. Washed it down with a delicious house pinot noir called Highliner. Service was also top notch and waitress happily answered any and all questions we had. Would recommend this place to any and everyone. Can't wait to go back.
My wife and I had a great time @ the HP 2! The food was fabulous and the steaks were cooked perfectly. In addition we had a house bottle of pinot noir that was one of the best we have ever had! I highly recommend this restaurant as we will not forget how nice everyone was to us and made us feel like we really mattered. THANK YOU!
As usual, AMAZING! We have been going to the Hitching Post for more than 25 years. We live locally, so if you want a beef experience, then look no further than the Hitching Post. It is the premier spot to go in the Santa Ynez Valley. Reservations are a must, but you will not be disappointed.
This restaurant is nice for a casual dinner. The steaks here are excellent; cooked to perfection and not over seasoned. The salads are fresh and the quality of the produce is apparent. The appetizers and side dishes are not as impressive though. They are well portioned but not very tasty (perhaps a personal preference). However, the deserts are outstanding.
The service is good. This place gets very busy so it may be some time before your server returns to your table to check on you or return with a small request (extra napkins, dressing, etc.). Do not go there if you are in a hurry.
If you are dining with young children, take note crayons and coloring menus are not provided as other restaurant do. Since it can be a considerable wait before the food arrives, you may want to bring something to keep them entertained. However, the children's menu is very reasonably priced ($10) and ice cream/drinks are included!
The adult beverage menu is somewhat limited with the exception of the wines, especially pinot noir. If this is your choice for wine then you are in luck. The wine here is decent and reasonably priced.
Overall, this place is a good value and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for a great steak.
The hostess was terribly unfriendly and in fact in the process of seating me she almost ran over a man in a walker , whom I waited for and she was beyond irritated she had to wait for him now. They shoved me next to a table with a screaming kid and that was it. The server was good but again not friendly and even in the patrons were snobby and rude. The vibe just sucked to be honest and for me if i am going to spend that kind of money I want to be valued as a customer.
The food itself was ok, very salty and just not very flavorful .
