Here, on the Central Coast of California, BBQ has always meant grilling over an open fire of red oak, a style of cooking that is native to our area and goes back to the days of the Spanish Rancheros. By combining the old and the new, we have created an exciting cuisine with outstanding steaks, ribs and chicken, along with fresh fish and seafood and vegetarian options. Best service! Seated by the bar and Arturo was so good yo us. Everything from the roasted galic, artichoke, bake potato and our steak was amazingly delicious!

Enjoy a great food night at Hitching Post. Their Italian Vegetable soup was delicious, and the grilled artichoke is always a favorite! The filet and ribeye were cooked perfectly to our preferences! Haven’t found a better steak house!

The baby back ribs were incredible. The Quail was wonderful. Most of all the service was amazing specifically the bartender. Highly recommend just eat at the bar. Other people to talk to grade 5. Love the place can’t wait to go back

First time here. The ambiance after Covid is very dismal compared to what the movie Sideways showed, but is acceptable.

Excellent COVID protocols and table spacing lead to a comfortable and safe dining experience. The food was excellent, although I wish our meal came with a veggie (not just meat and a potato). Overall, a great experience.

The food is very good, as expected. This was our second visit, with our first being about 6 years ago. (We were visiting Solvang for a birthday get-away) The atmosphere was very disappointing considering the cost of the meal. When spending this much money ($30-45) for a meal it would be nice to have an inviting ambiance. It looks old and rundown inside. The service was fine. But we will probably not go again.

Waitress could be kinder,
Not even a happy new year,
Or a thank you for coming in.
3. Coffee was cold, I would recommend stronger coffee and larger cup.
Chicken and steak, wine was excellent!
Excellent did not have to wait too long for the food.

The food was excellent, but we were seated in the “tent” area, it was raining when we arrived. While the tent area was warm, it became very humid.
The food and service were excellent. I would recommend to friends and family.

The bbq was excellent. Steaks and chops were perfectly cooked. However the prices were too high considering that we were literally sitting in a covered parking lot directly on pavement! Meat comes with a starch only, and a fresh veggie side would have been an easy perk. Garlic bread was very greasy and the relish tray looked half eaten when it arrived at our table. Bottom line- great steak but for the prices the overall experience should have been more carefully curated.

Our server Jene was fantastic, and her assistant did a great job keeping the table cleared of dishes. The food is alway delicious. The tent pavilion was a bit noisy with children, but other than that it was a nice experience.

So fun! Food and wine were fantastic. It was raining and we ate outside under a heated tent and couldn’t even tell. I highly recommend the experience!

Disappointing experience, the Hitching Post has been our go to when visiting the valley for wine tasting. Everything was off from the Steaks to the side dishes, backed potato’s etc…

Reservations was at 7:30pm it was about an hour to get food. I ask for medium-well sirloin; it was medium. I asked our second waitress that took over that I needed the meat to be cooked a little longer, and she seemed to be bothered by my request. Until I gave a second reason why I needed the steak to be medium-well; then she took it back.
When I pay over $150 for food. I don't want to be questioned about my dissatisfaction; just do it.

After seeing Sideways, it went on the bucket list. Glad it did! Funky roadhouse style, very efficient and courteous service, and a tasty dinner. I enjoyed the ribeye which was cooked exactly as I requested…no more than medium rare…perfectly seasoned and with a hint of oak smoke, not overpowering. The Apple/pear cobbler was also fresh and delicious. When in the Santa Ynez Valley or just blowing by Buellton on the 101, it’s well worth the stop. By the way, your visit will be enhanced if you are lucky enough to be seated near the large window into the smoker/grill and a view of the artists who cook your meat.

Typically an excellent experience all around. Dissapointed in last nights Ribeyes. Pop had the special bone 28oz in and I had the natural 12 oz rib. Both were dissaponting tough , chewy steaks. My son had pork chops and gave them two thumbs up and the 5oz Filet that was terrific Artichokes were great as were salads and fries. Service was very terrific.
Im chocking it up to a packed night.

This place has lost its magic! The flavor and richness of the food of previous experiences has disappeared. We visited here the last two time we have been in town, and unfortunately it will have to be our last. Thank you for the wonderful memories.

We were visiting Solvang to rejuvenate our Christmas Spirit during these days of gift cards and masks. Yes, I loved the movie and couldn't wait to dine here. The service was attentive and helpful. We were celebrating my Moms 88th birthday and they remembered! Hooray! We started with the ever popular grilled artichoke and yes, it is as wonderful as diners mention. Our entree's were a ribeye, pork chop, swordfish and a filet/grilled shrimp. We also had a side of mushrooms (I sopped up every drop of the wine sauce for my steak). Every entree was cooked perfectly and delicious. It has been years since I had a baked potato served with butter, sour cream & chives! I had a Hitching Post Pinot and it was great. We had a joyous evening with family and will always include a visit to The HP2 whenever we visit Solvang.

Spending $65 on a steak eaten in a parking lot was NOT what we expected. Saying “outdoor dining” doesn’t imply that you’ve taken ZERO effort to create a nice setting but apparently The Hitching Post doesn’t care about the diner’s experience once you’re there. I’ve eaten in many other restaurants who managed to turn their outdoor dining into appealing experiences. Not so here. The service was mediocre, the food was just okay, and the restroom was a porta-potty. When spending upwards of $100/person, I expect better. Will not be back.

The quality consistency of service and food is a hallmark of this restaurant. Our reserved table was ready and the service began immediately. We like our steaks rare and they were grilled perfectly. Our waitress, Morgan, ensured we had finished our soup before having the kitchen grill our steaks. Just brilliant. We have been to the Hitching Post II countless times over the past 15 years and we've never been disappointed. Highly recommend.
