Here, on the Central Coast of California, BBQ has always meant grilling over an open fire of red oak, a style of cooking that is native to our area and goes back to the days of the Spanish Rancheros. By combining the old and the new, we have created an exciting cuisine with outstanding steaks, ribs and chicken, along with fresh fish and seafood and vegetarian options. We also create our own (world class) wines for sale in the restaurant and to the public. Hartley Ostini Hitching Post Wines have garnered an excellent reputation. Try them here or purchase on our website for your enjoyment at home.

Now featuring Hitching Post Burgers in the HP Sidebar Mondays - Wednesdays! Oak-grilled 1/2 pound ground sirloin on homemade cheese bun with our famous french fries for just $12.

My favorite restaurant. Food is not a value but in this case you get what you pay for. Wines choices made by the owner are great. Tell your server if you are on a date you want slow dinner and they don't mind. Gone 2 times and while not everything on the menu is a home run every thing is good. Highly recommend the top sirloin. Will make a point of stopping here for dinner if anywhere near this area.

We have been to this location 5 times in the past, service has been 2-3 stars. Last night Robin helped the HitchingPost set themselves apart. She was friendly, attentive, helpful and made our dining experience an A+ occasion.

Made a valentines reservation at 6:50 for a time of 7:15. It wasn't there before so there must have been a cancellation. We live in Buellton, so we just drove over. We have been there a number of times and always enjoy it. The shrimp appetizer is very good. The baked potato is always cooked perfectly. I also always enjoy the filet mignon.

We ate at the bar because the Olympics were on TV, but our meal was really, really great, from artichoke all the way to lemon dessert! The guys at the bar took great care of us. We also enjoyed one of the Hitching Post's pinots, which was excellent!

Overall, we love to visit the Hitching post... We try to go regularly, however, because of the slightly higher priced menu, we have to limit our visits to accomodate our budgets. Otherwise, we recommend the Hitching post for those special occasions.

All food selections were terrific. Especially loved the dry rubbed baby back ribs. Also we were expressed with the designated driver program that allows the non-drinker to be eligible for a free appetizer of bbq marinated mushrooms which were delicious!

Saturday was an off night for the Hitching Post. Steaks were under-cooked with little seasoning. Noise level seemed unusually loud. Waitress was robotic. We’ve been there many times before. Brought guests for the “local” experience and great steaks. All four of us were disappointed, which is not typical for us.

My first trip to the Hitching Post after several times in the area on business. My server was wonderful, attentive and helpful. Food was great and wine list was wonderful.

This is easily our favorite restaurant. The food is amazing and the service is top notch. Everyone that works there has been there long term and they are quick and know what they are doing. They understand it’s a pricey place and it shows. It’s always a pleasure eating there.

This is a good restaurant with excellent steak offerings. We went there for Santa Ynez Valley Restaurant Week which made it a great value. They had lots of different choices on their restaurant week menu which is different than some restaurants that only offer a few options. The only issue with the restaurant is that it is very noisy.

Restaurant week was a let down, the wine was expired, the potato wasn’t done, my son didn’t get his food on time.
