Hitching Post II
Overpriced restaurant with good steaks but way overpriced for the quality of the other food served. Cheap basket of crackers and wrapped butter do not live up to standard of a fine dining steak house. Wine way over priced with a restaurant in the middle of CA wine country.
Had a reservation for 5:30. Got there a little early so we could enjoy a bottle of wine in the bar. Told hostess we would sit at the bar for a bit because we saw two bar stools available. She said great let her know when we were ready. Went to sit at the bar and asked for a bottle of Highliner. Bartender said sorry but those seats were reserved. We've never heard of reserving bar stools but we assume they were saved for "locals." There were no other seats in the bar so we decided to go to our table. As we left another couple sitting against the wall stopped us and said they were told to the same thing but also never heard of that. I guess they want you to go there to eat but not drink. The food was great as usual
Great food and good service (server brought meals and then disappeared for a while when we needed a few small items). However, EXTREMELY expensive ... my 12oz ribeye with baked potato was very, very good but was also $48 and my wife’s 8oz filet was $44. Total for the four of us was well over $200 and none of us had anything to drink except water! We did have two shrimp cocktail appetizers which consisted of just tiny baby shrimp covered in cocktail sauce, so I would not recommend it. If you want great steaks, I can recommend this place, but bring your wallet because it’s pricey!
Excellent as usual.
Hitching Post has amazing food and wine (which they produce). The servers are always great and you can see the meat being grilled on the open flame while you wait. If your a fan of the movie Sideways, this is a must stop. We go every year.
The food was great, as usual, though it was a bit more crowded than we'd typically see on a Saturday evening. The restaurant kindly provided some complimentary appetizers, etc. so no problem on the wait.
This is a place you must go to once, but not necessarily a second time. The bar is great and the cocktails are excellent (although have the bartender strain the ice if you're having a Manhattan!) The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, but the food itself is only good in some areas. All the 'extras' are pretty weak (salad, veggie tray, garlic bread - we were given a big basket of cell-wrapped crackers). We started with a mushroom appetizer with garlic bread - mushrooms were excellent, the bread was dry and flavorless. We each had a filet which was outstanding, however the French fries were mediocre and the last time we were here the baked potato seemed off a steam table. Hitching Post label wines are simply average which is a shame as there are so many extraordinary wines available in the valley. If we return, it will be to have a drink at the bar as it's a lively scene and the bartenders are great.
Great night to celebrate a friend's birthday. First time for our friend and she was impressed. Haven't let us down food quality and flavor. Best bang for the buck. Looking forward to our next visit to the area so we can have dinner there again.
Food and service were great. Get a lot of food for the price and the wines are outstanding
Server was busy watching playoff game so wasn’t too attentive
Great food and wine with wonderful service.
Love this steakhouse. When we plan our central California trips, setting our reservation at the Hitching Post II is essential. Service is always great, food and wine are delicious. Corn chowder was fantastic, as was our roasted garlic starter, and our steaks. The vanilla creme brûlée topped off our fine meal.
Our waitress tonight, Genevieve, was the best waitress ever!
Overpriced and lacking ambiance, HP wasn’t my thing.
The Hitching Post ll is a favorite restaurant of mine. Haven't been there in a while but Friday's meal there was great. I eat there every time I'm in the area. Great food, great in-house wines. The service is top notch as well.
Petit Filet was wonderful!
Service was great! The New York Steak was seasoned perfectly. I was excited to see The Sideways venue and it not only met me expectations but exceeded them. Would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant to anyone staying in the area!
Well, I, too watched Sideways, and, since I and my colleagues were in Solvang for a conference, I made a dinner reservation for the group. I had to apologize to them afterwards:( Server was friendly, but the food was not good... at all.
Advertisements tout great steaks, but my ribeye, which is supposed to be well-marbled (and I even requested that they leave as much fat on it as possible as they say they cut them in-house,) had little to NO fat. That fatty edge that is a signature highlight of a good ribeye was non-existent. It was also thin and small and sorely lacking in flavor! It was definitely nowhere near worth the hefty price tag.
And the wine, for which they are supposed to be known was very disappointing, as well. I asked for the signature Pinot Noir, and it was vinegary and rather harsh on the palate.
One at the table was assured that her tuna would be cooked to medium-rare, leaning on rare, and it came out completely well done. Another at the table ordered lamb and said it was disappointing, as well.
Salad didn’t look fresh, and neither did the restaurant, overall.
This is a definite pass, despite its glimpse iHollywood.
Service was very good. Attention to details and they came through with the special greeting on the desert. Service again was prompt and very attentive. Food was good but the prices were a bit higher than food value return. Movie credits does not warrant the prices necessarily. Also, decor was pretty dated with pop corn ceiling otherwise good experience.
It was so busy we decided to eat at the bar. Our server was Darin who was assisting the bar. He was excellent and we enjoyed our visit celebrating our anniversary.
Great wine list and very good steak!
Over priced and noisy. The device wasn’t bad but the waiter we had acted as though he could care less about our experience.
The steaks here are very good and the French fries are amazing. The decor is out of the 60’s, but a fun place.
Was a fun place! We were seated very quickly, no wait, so reservations were handled well. Service was very good. Quick, knowledgeable staff. Food was good.
We visit once a year on our way to visit friends and have been doing so for many years now. Love this place. The filet mignon is the way to go, and the key lime pie is that perfect balance of tart and sweet. Service is always friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is lively yet laid back on Friday nights. We always enjoy our visit here and highly recommend it for a really good steak.
Ribeyes were both ordered medium rare. One was medium. The other was much thicker cut and cooked properly. Steak quality was superb though. Noise level was deafening.
Food was fantastic and the service was warm and friendly. A very relaxed atmosphere.
Had the best meal ever at Hitching Post in Casmalia, so decided to try this one while we were in town. Food was ok, service was ok. Nothing at all like our fabulous experience at the other location.
I've been a fan of Hitching Post II but have to say that it's starting to feel pretty old and for the cost it's just not all that. Also our waitress was less than enthusiastic with questions we had regarding food and wine choices. With so many wonderful restaurants in the area, I don't think I'll be returning to Hitching Post II
Absolutely great food. We haven't been here for about 8 years. The food is even better than I remembered it. The portions are large enough to share. I love being able to watch the chef cook the food. With all of the great restaurants in the Santa Ynez Valley, don't pass on this one. It will be one of the tastiest meals you will have. Just plain food cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Don't forget appetizers either.
Had to send back our steaks twice.....Guys in the kitchen please read this review. If I order the giant angus tommahawk its not rocket science. Let the steak get to 125 degrees internal and then let it rest for 10 minutes prior to bringing to the table for a perfect medium rare. You sent out not one but two raw steaks then upon return had to send them back again because they were then overdone..........at 200.00 tab and the years you've been doing this I expect better and I've had better from you. Tell your grill cook to use a thermal digital temp check prior to plating cheffing 101.
Best steak dinner my family has ever had and we’ve been to plenty! Highly recommend!!!
A true icon, what more could one want a traditional steak house, old style ambience, loved by locals and the star of a movie to boot.
Delicious! Love the artichoke. It’s where I learned to love artichokes. They really know how to cook meat too. Yum. Can’t wait to go back.
was a birthday celebration.. we had a great time, as always, food and service were excellent! we will be back again soon!
Perfect night to celebrate my husbands passing by going to his favorite eating place. The Hitching Post is always a winner.
The restaurant needs a serious upgrade the walls were scratched, the curtains were very old and dirty. They placed us in table that literally was next to exit out of restaurant. It was so loud, we could not have a conversation between ourselves. Our meal was good but not good enough that I will be back.
DELICIOUS STEAKS! I am always 100% happy with a visit to the Hitching Post. It's a little pricey, but you're getting such good steak, so it's worth it. I usually get the angus rib chop, and split with my boyfriedn, so it's not too expensive when you think that it feeds two. Pair that with a nice syrah and you won't be disappointed! For a starter, enjoy either the artichoke or the BBQ mushrooms appetizer... and you can't go wrong with any of their steaks (the angus rib chop or filet mignon are my favorites). They come with a salad or soup and a baked potato. Always a win!
Excellent food and service. We were a large party and service was fast and friendly. Best steak in Santa Ynez Valley.
Food was yummy and plentiful. Ana our server was fabulous. Really knew how to multitask - it was busy ...we will be back next time we are in the area
