Our table received another table’s entrees. Waiter was confused with who got what when the correction was made. This has never happened before here.

John’s once again offered a memorable “old San Francisco” experience. Good food at very reasonable prices, jazz combo in the background, personable character for service. What’s not to like?

It’s always a sure thing at John’s. Remember to ask for a table upstairs if you wanna listen to live jazz. Great place for drinks and food with friends and business Associates. Might not be great for a first date, but you never know.

This was our first time in to John's Grill. And we weren't disappointed. The drinks from the bar were top-notch. We ordered the Sam Spade lamb chops and filet mignon. Both were perfectly cooked and accompanied with baked potatoes and veggies. The lamb chops came with sliced tomatoes just like in the Maltese Falcon. The staff were all great as well. They even encouraged us to check out the other floors, which we did. Jazz was playing on the second floor. We checked out the banquet area on the third floor. It wasn't in use, but we could see it was a nice space for special events. We love the historical ambiance at John's Grill. They even served a surprise birthday flan that paired nicely with a tawny port. I highly recommend John's Grill.

Petrale very good. Almondine sauce a little heavy. Excellent service but pay attention to the service charges added to the check.

A rather simple business 60 minute lunch. Food was great as usual and our waitress, Dana, is totally professional, helpful and friendly as well.

Invited friends for my retirement dinner. Have been here several times before. it’s quite noisy so conversational are difficult. Appetizers were good (beet dish and shrimp cocktail). 3 of us had steak, my ribeye had many fat veins but tasted good. pick a Leviathan blend would be that was good too. Service was excellent.

We love John's Grill. It harks back to the best days of San Francisco. Who doesn't like an old-school restaurant with a good bartender and a menu that includes such local classics as "Sam Spade's Lamb Chops," and "Jack LaLanne's Favorite Salad." Both delicious! We make sure to go there regularly.

I took a friend for lunch for her birthday. It’s the perfect old-fashioned steak house - dark wainscoting, photos of famous past patrons, waiters who listen and have perfected the concept of good service. And did I mention the steaks??? Cooked to perfection! And for dessert, a real NY cheesecake. And a complimentary flan with a candle for my friend. Exquisite doesn’t begin to describe the experience.
