   I was looking for a steak, but then I ended up looking at the steak being served(at different tables) and went with a caesar salad instead. :(

   This is not the place to get lobster tail. The Maine lobster tail was mediocre at best. Had much better at cheaper places or cooking it myself from tail bought at the grocery store. Wasn't the worst one I had but you would expect perfection from a place like this. Steaks were great. We had both the New York and Filet, medium well and both were perfect. Vegetables were great. Also comes with a baked potato and side of sour cream. Not a big fan of baked potatoes but I forgot to ask if substitutions were allowed. Nice wine list and the pours are very generous. Nice cocktails. Sat upstairs....very nice atmosphere.

   Historic Restaurant one of our favorites in the city. Always great food. The spacings on the tables were tight and the guy directly behind me kept banging into me it was very annoying other wise the meal was great as always.

   Nice local place. Great back story. La Lane salad disappointing - not enough crab. Halibut good. Shrimp dijon and fried shrimp VERY good. Nice prices on wine.

    Steak night! My friend has ribeye. I had lamb chops. Portions were large. Great value for the price. Service was a bit off once our initial cocktails arrived. They were slow to offer my friend a refill and had to be reminded to bring the wine which arrived after the entree. Little things that could easily be fixed. I think of steakhouses as having comfortable upholstered chairs. Not hard wooden ones. We had a nice time nonetheless.

    We were celebrating our 47th anniversary. Everything was great… service, food, ambience. I had the lamb and my husband had a steak. Both were exceptional! They surprised us with a yummy desert and champagne in celebration of our anniversary. We will definitely be back again the next time we come to San Francisco.

    Great ambiance, but the food was disappointing. The petroleum sole was delish! Salad had too much dressing and the salmon tasted pretty fishy. The hollandaise was blah. Too bad!

    If you have a special appointment or occasion coming up and you're likely to spend a little extra dollar I totally recommend Johns Grill! We were 4 person eating appetizer and dinner, had a bottle of wine and sparkling water and paid 400$ with tip. If you're german or European in general be prepared to receive a bill as soon as the last plate is empty. Overall 11 outta 10 for the food

    First day in Frisco. Not much to look at from the outside but inside is a comfortable dining place with an ode to the Maltese Falcon. Steaks were perfectly cooked and the service was top notch. We did feel a bit cramped though, guess that shows it’s popularity.

    Staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. Server was attentive and we were able to eat relatively quickly at our request as we had tickets to a show. Menu offers a wide variety and the full bar and lengthy wine list offer lots to chose from. We enjoyed Chicken Linguine Alfredo, clam chowder, shrimp salad and the grilled halibut. All were delicious and prepared well. The mashed potatoes were a bit gluey but the side vegetables were very good! It is impressive that John’s Grill remains a high quality establishment after so many years. We will return!

    As much as I wanted to have a 5 star dining experience, there were a few minor things that didn't sit well with me. First and foremost, the restaurant provides bread and butter at the beginning. This is great by the bread is served cold and the butter was even colder. It makes it impossible to spread the butter on cold bread. I was worried that the bad experience might continue however I was wrong. The escargots and the tortellone was amazing. The sauces for both were to die for as they were superbly done and so delicious. I ordered the ribeye and my girlfriend ordered the salmon. They were wonderful and delicious. We saved room for some dessert and we ordered Chocolate Mousse Torte (A triple chocolate threat with layers of decadent dark, milk & white chocolate mousse). It looked promising however; it was a major disappointment. It was covered in dark chocolate icing however there was no dark chocolate mousse or white chocolate mousse to be found. I would have complained to the waiter but he only visited our table infrequently and we had to ask him for the dessert menu because of his inattentiveness to our table. The appetizers and the entrees made this visit but if it was based on the bread/butter or dessert or service, I would be giving this place a one star review. It is questionable if I will return even with the great food as service is paramount in a great restaurant.

    This is a fun spot to explore, with "historic" being the key word. We did not want to climb any stairs, so our little booth in the bar area was cozy, if not a bit too tight for our overly plump tummies. (Sigh) We enjoyed being near the bar area which had mementos from the past, including the Maltese Falcon. My martini was a classic, as is this restaurant, definitely "old school." Apparently, the rich and famous dine here, and their photos line the walls. As for food, it was "very good" in the four-star range. I started with the shrimp cocktail. Hubby had the lobster bisque. I enjoyed a small filet of beef, while Hubby had the snapper with three fried prawns. For dessert, we split the flan, which was lovely ... soft and creamy. Service was quite good and professional. John's Grill is certainly worth a stop. It's one of those places you go to because it is there. Good food, good fun.
