Hipp Cafe Ratings and Reviews
The entire restaurant was filled with reservations. I made a reservation for the Sunday matinee about a month before the show and requested a table in the lobby but ended up on a window with the order line next to us. We survived but hope the future finds us back inside again. Service was good and staff has been added. Convenient and decent food but wouldn't recommend the burger- precooked and overdone to dry- at least on this day.
We've made it a routine to go to the Hipp Café, at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore, MD, before our matinee shows. We have a comfortable place to sit while we wait for the house to open, and Hipp's bread pudding is outstanding! We highly recommend the Hipp Café.
We waited in an uncomfortable line--inches from other diners, to order at the cash register. Found our reserved table--liked having a reserved sign with our name on it. I had the Salmon club. It was not a club--no bacon and not on bread. Three pieces of salmon fishy in flavor and overcooked to the point of being leathery, served on a round bun with some lettuce and sauce. Accompanied by warmed crab chips that were stale. Partner got the turkey blt wrap. Generous portion but "average at best" in the taste department. Folks who worked at Hipp Cafe were nice and it's convenient pre-theater, but we wouldn't eat there again.
The Hipp Café was great! It is attached to the Hippodrome theater and was perfect to stop in before a show. Food was great and service was quick. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a quick bit before attending an event at the Hippodrome. Make reservations early.
We had reservations and got stuck in traffic. We called to let them know we were running late. They returned the call to make sure we were coming and they held our table for 45 minutes!! How awesome it that!!!!
The servers are fantastic - attentive, gracious, funny, and just plain sweet. The Hipp Cafe truly adds to the show experience for an entire evening of fun. We used to switch around to other places for dinner before the show, but not only go to the Hipp Cafe everytime.
Baltimore has good restaurants and good theatres--unfortunately, they are rarely close to each other. One good choice is the Hipp Cafe, located right in the Hippodrome Theatre. When we first arrived, we were a little taken aback that we were supposed to go to a counter to order food. ("I thought we were going to a restaurant" my daughter said). Frankly, I don't like self-serve restaurants, even if they do bring the food to your table after you order. But the food was very good and the staff was pleasant. Considering the other choices around--mostly fast food, delis and one Pub that it was impossible to get a reservation for, I would go back next time I had tickets. But when will we get a Restaurant Row with our Theatre District?
Whoever had the great idea to put this café at the Hippodrome should be given FIVE STARS! It's so convenient to be able to get a SUPER TASTY soup, sandwich or salad before a show, in a sit down restaurant, at a reasonable price, with a friendly and attentive wait staff. We eat here whenever we go to the Hippodrome!
I wish the area around the Hippodrome had more interesting eating options. We chose this restaurant because we were taking our grandsons to see Myth Busters and it is conveniently located in the lobby of the theater. This was desirable because the neighborhood is not. Unfortunately, the menu at Hipp Café is quite limited especially for vegetarian dishes. Our grandsons could find only one thing on the menu either one of them would eat. Also, the only side is chips. Need a more healthful variety. Plus, $4.00 for a cookie? What is the management thinking. They need to go back to the drawing board.
Hidden on the side of the Hippodrome Theatre, this modern café offers incredible soups, sandwiches and wraps. The crab and corn chowder was quite tasty, while the curry chicken salad wrap was to die for! Wouldn't recommend the deserts. Both the berry cobbler and cookies just weren't that good. Would definitely go back again!
We really enjoyed the ambiance and food on our recent visit prior to seeing "White Christmas." The Cobb salad was excellent
and the Steak Sub was just the right size for a pre-show meal. Staff is efficient and friendly. Was fun discussing the snow event with other customers. We highly recommend the Hipp for any pre-show meal, the prices are very reasonable as well.
The selection is average. Service is awkward - you order your food, go to your table and it is delivered to you but some things you are suppose to get yourself like your drinks, cookies/desserts but no one told you that when you ordered. So you are sitting at your table waiting for your cookie to be delivered. Tables are small but plates are big.
The food at the Hipp Cafe was less than desirable. My burger was straight out of the freezer and a beer cost $8.00 (REALLY)!
The room was dark and it was cumbersome to order food at one location and drinks at another location. Lord knows if you didn't plan for dessert in advance you had to go back to the cashier yet again. I would never recommend the Hipp Cafe!!!
The only reason we ate at the Hipp Cafe was for convenience since it is located inside the Hippodrome theater. This was the second time I we ate here and both times were inenjoyable. The food was bland and not very tasteful. The crab cake was fishy and the chicken pot pie had too much rosemary. The berry cobbler wasn't cooked all the way through and the dough in the middle was runny. The service and wait staff were the only bright spot. They were very friendly and quick to help you. We were also able to book our reservation the morning of the show, which was a plus. The only reason to eat here is convenience and location.
We've been having dinner at the Hipp Café before our Hippodrome performances since it's inception and have always enjoyed it. The serving sizes and quality of food has always been impressive. So far, we haven't had anything we didn't enjoy. The restaurant associates, from the cashier to the "bus person", have always been courteous and helpful. I do miss one person - Veronica. She was one of the first people we met when we began coming to the Hipp Café. She always met us with a smile and a hug. I do wish I could remember the second waitress' name (sorry). She's also been there since the beginning and is always very courteous and helpful. We've never been shunned or ignored by any of the associates.
Reservation making is also a plus
They couldn't find my reservation, so I stood there for like 10 minutes waiting, then before we got our food, we were asked to move so another family could use our table. Never going there again. I am a career server/ bartender and have never done this to anyone especially at their birthday celebration.
The Hipp Cafe has a great location if you are attending a show at the Hippodrome Theater. We went there before a recent matinee. The food is not spectacular but it is certainly good enough. The best thing we had was the bread pudding. But do make reservations and come a little early. By an hour before show time, the place was very crowded and we had people eyeing our table.
We had tickets on a Friday evening for Jersey Boys. After rushing home from work and changing, then running back out, it was SO convenient to find a restaurant right at the theatre. I loved the atmosphere displaying all of the shows. Everyone was friendly, the food was delicious, and it came out so quickly. We had plenty of time to relax and unwind before the show and never felt rushed to leave after we eat! The prices were very reasonable and I WILL come back here the next time I see a show!!!
The Hipp more than exceeded our expectations when grabbing a bite before a show at The Hippodrome. The nice thing was you could make a reservation, so even though you get in line to order and wait for a very pleasant server to bring you your food, at least you don't have to wait for a table. I had a surprisingly good Beef Stroganoff, my friend had a delightful Salmon Greek Salad. And don't forget some really good desserts - bread pudding was our choice, which the waitress suggested splitting. It was relaxing because you are virtually in the theatre when show time comes. Wouldn't go anywhere else before a show.
Ate there prior to evening show at Hippodrome. Good food..fast and courteous service. Had reserved table which was actually in theater area so didn't have to wait in line for ticket scan, usher came around to table to scan tickets while waiting for food to be served. Would recommend reservations since Bistro/Bar room was packed shortly after we got there. All in all pleasant experience.
