We went to Hinata to celebrate my spouse's birthday. It was an excellent experience. The food was excellent, particularly the appetizer course that included four items. The cauliflower potage and a dish of greens, with tiny enoki mushrooms, highlighted this course. The sashimi course was another highlight, as was the Chilean sea bass, which included some of the most resplendent eggplant and dashi I've ever had. The steamed custard was perhaps the most exciting course with chunks of fish topped with custard topped with broth topped with salmon roe. It was among the most delicious items I've ever had. The restaurant was gracious to substitute the beer course with a salmon one. I found the salmon to be well flavored but more cooked than I would've wanted. And, while they tasted great, I would've wanted the accompanying vegetables to be more than mashed potatoes and broccoli. I also wanted a little more from the dessert, an apple pastry. We opted for the wine pairing which included four wines and four sakes. All were wonderful, especially the sakes, with one that was like drinking a pawpaw. Overall, I was quite pleased with the experience.

One the top shelf restaurants in all of Indy. If you enjoy places like Vida, Tinker Street, Bluebeard, and Beholder, this is the spot for you. Food you'll be thinking about weeks after you ate it.

It was one of the most amazing dinners I’ve ever had! At first I was a little nervous because I’d never seen any other restaurant with an overall of almost 5/5 stars, but to be honest it totally worth it! And if I could I would give them more stars. I went yesterday for my husband’s birthday and we ate absolutely delicious, service was fantastic and they had the kind gesture of plating the desert of my husband with a “happy birthday “ message in white chocolate My husband went to Japan a couple years ago, we are always looking for new places around the world and he told me that this was the best Japanese meal that he’ve ever had outside Japan Without a doubt we will go again and tell our friends of this fantastic place!

Truly an amazing experience! The staff and owner are very polite! The owner is from Japan and has definitely put hard work into this place. You are in JAPAN once you step inside. The door is open when you enter & exit! They take your coat for you. And they have a small basket where you leave you purse in. Instead of putting your purse on the floor. Authentic, delicious and elegant Japanese food! I will definitely return sometime. Thank you for bringing this place to Indianapolis!

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had. I had high expectations considering it was a little over $200/person after drink and tip, but they did not disappoint. Chef Tanigawa could seriously give Chef Morimoto a run for his money. Each portion was the perfect size. I was worried I would have to go get Mcdonalds afterwards but with an 8-course meal with good portions, I left happy but not overstuffed. Not many restaurants in Indy provide this level of service either. Even a step above the institutions in Indy like St. Elmos as far as service goes. Will definitely return.

My husband and I visited Hinata to celebrate our anniversary. We have been one time prior and loved our experience. The food was exquisite and the staff were very friendly and professional. We will definitely return in the future!

I loved this because it was a variety of seasonally appropriate food prepared in ways I can't or don't prepare at home. The chef was great, the staff was great, the atmosphere was very chill. The food was phenomenal. A very nice way to while away an evening!

My experience with Hinata and it’s staff was unparalleled! I have never been to a restaurant where the familial nature and attention of the staff competes so harshly with the quality and experience of the food! I chose to propose at Hinata to recreate one of mine and my fiancés earliest dates in extra style. I was relieved and delighted to find that I was emailing back and forth with the owner Nobu. I was honestly skeptically it was him but to my further delight I was greeted on the special night by the same “Peter San” that I’d received in a handful of emails! This greeting shattered my skepticism and was instead the beginning to a very personable night filled with the magical experience of Hinata and my ultimate confession of love for my now fiancé, all curated by Nobu and his staff! The restaurant was different too, much smaller then expected but very private which was even more perfect. The food was EXCELLENT! It was so beautifully arranged but so good that I only got one picture of a dish that I hadn’t started eating before I remembered to take a picture hahaha! And the wine and sake parings only added to the rich experience! The wait staff was beyond kind and attentive, our waitress even going to the extra step of catching me on my way to the bathroom to ask if I’d like the proposal video recorded and airdropped to my phone after the meal! The thought and care we were shown made us feel like family and at the lead of it all was Nobu, taking care of his restaurant but also taking the time to serve us himself when he could. On our way out after a wildly successful proposal and a phenomenal dinner Nobu informed us that we where his first couple to propose in his restaurant and invited us to come back for our anniversary. Me and my fiancé aren’t from Indianapolis or Indiana for that matter but are even still both in strong agreement that we most certainly will be back!!!

We went there for birthday celebration, the ambience was great, soft music playing in the background, quiet enough that you can have a conversation and enjoy the company, but not so quiet that you like you’re disturbing peace. The food was spectacular, they were able to make food that I didn’t like taste amazing! The owner was wonderful, came around and made sure everything was in order. It was on the pricier side, but we’d definitely would put it on our return list.

We had a wonderful time celebrating my wife's birthday. The level of service is unparalleled in the city. They made us feel like honored guests. The food was lovely in both taste and appearance. Was it pricey? Yes. Did we both feel like it was worth it? Absolutely!

I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and they gave him a specialized birthday dessert, very thoughtful. The food and experience reminded us of the omakase experience we had in Hawaii. We were very happy, I highly recommend dining here.

Very friendly, excellent food, good pairing of courses with different wines and sake. Every course showed different aspects of Japanese cuisine, with excellent presentation. The meal was on the expensive side, but worth it for the quality of the food and of the restaurant.

One of the best dining experiences in Indianapolis. The city is so fortunate to have this level of service, food, and drinks in one restaurant. The dishes are meticulously prepared and always provide some element that really catches your attention. This visit, for example, it was a charred piece of charred cut off a cob that almost felt fried. My wife was completely enthralled by the steak, whipped potatoes, and luscious dipping sauce. We have really enjoyed all of our trips but this one was the best I think. Their sake selection is well put together and offers a nice variety of styles and price points. Don't forge to start your meal with a Toki highball. The owner might make them and serve them to you. Stop reading, book a reservation. You won't be disappointed.

The courses are all exquisitely prepared with a wide variety of different flavors. The tempura was hot and crispy, and even the squid sashimi didn't have the rubbery chewiness that squid often has. I highly recommend Hinata for a fine dining experience.

Dining at Hinata is always a pleasure and last night was no exception. Again and again I have been surprised and impressed by the creativity and taste combinations at Hinata. In addition to the very fresh seafood you'd expect at a top Japanese restaurant, chef Tanigawa always manages to incorporate local flavors as well.
