Our 8 person sushi bar and 20 person patio is located in a discrete corner of La Jolla, a setting well suited to our name, which translate to "Secret" in Japanese.
Chef Mitsu Aihara presents a menu of traditional sushi and nigiri, along with Japanese style tapas using the high quality products and ingredients.
Do not come to this little secret, Himitsu, looking for super trendy sushi rolls. DO come expecting the freshest, thoughtful and meticulously prepared nigri and sashimi. But if you do like sushi rolls there are four choices on the menu. If you're fortunate enough to score one of the few seats (8) at the bar, you'll witness the theater of chef's amazing show. Our service was smooth, unobtrusive and super friendly. Fantastic saki selection by the bottle or carafe. Such a surprise and fun idea to choose your own sake cup.
Clean, healthy, delicious!
Go for the omakase, and trust the chef. Just a perfect evening!
We had the tasting menu (omakase). We sat at the bar so we got to see the chef at work and he told us what kind of fish or sushi was served in between bites. Everything tasted great and the service was very attentive. Loved the black sesame pudding desert. We would come again!
We have eaten at Himitsu several times both at the sushi bar and at a table. Great food and wonderful service.
Himitsu lives up to its reputation. The highest quality sushi and sashimi that you can find in San Diego. The Chefs and waitstaff treat everyone as if they are the most important VIP in town. Specials and regular menu items show off the skills of the finest sushi chefs in town. WIll definitely be back.
In a cold day patio should be warmer.
Delicious food in an intimate setting at the bar. Price point for Omakase was reflective of the neighborhood.
Most extraordinary sushi experience in years! 😋😋😋😋The Sushi was the perfect temperature. The fish was extremely fresh and clean tasting. The rice was perfectly seasoned with the right balance between rice vinegar and mirin. The rice grains are intact and stickiness was perfect. Not too much rice on the nigiri, and most pieces do not need soy sauce. Perfect! 😘
Best and freshest sushi in town! My mom is from Japan and this is her favorite restaurant in San Diego. The staff is welcoming and very friendly. The fish is so fresh and delicious! The owner is always there and has many delicious “specials”.
Great service. Incredible sushi. Uni w wagyu is a must try.
I almost don’t want to write how good this place is because I want to keep it a secret. The sushi is so good and fresh and the service is incredible. It’s also very small so it’s quiet and has a great intimate feel. It’s pricey so definitely a special occasion kind of place but worth every penny.
Excellent sushi and sashimi.. ordered every fish off the special menu to try as sushi and/or sashimi..it was absolutely fresh and clean and tasty. Really enjoyed the small intimate tables outdoors.
Do you want to impress a friend, say “Thank You ” (like I was doing)? Then go to the sushi bar at Himitsu and eat the fabulous food, enjoy the charm of Mitsu and all his team for a memorable experience. You will be so glad you did.
Wow. That pretty much sums up Himitsu. If you are a foodie and you know your sushi then Himitsu is a must. It is some of the best sushi I’ve ever experienced and the setting to go along with it makes it that much better. The sake list is something to brag about as well. The sushi made here is truly delicious, fresh and beautiful. They serve in season and local fish as well which is something you should always try when you come to a place like Himitsu. Overall the service, food and setting makes for a great experience. The price tag that comes along with a meal here is pretty hefty but it’s to be expected for the quality of ingredients and care. Bottom line... WOW.
Delicious, amazing—- we had a memorable meal at Himitsu and just can’t stop talking about it! We will come back every time we find ourselves back in town...
Super fresh and yummy sushi. The wasabi Caesar salad is a must have.
Omakase is definitely all you need. Chef gets it right all the time and everything you get is worth all the money you pay. Definitely will be back several times.
Himitsu and the very engaged and gracious sushi man prepared some of the best sushi we had in a long time . . . and we know sushi! The seared black cod and toro were amazing. Wonderful unique offerings and great sake to accompany the meal. This is a real treat for La Jolla and will certainly become one of the best over the years!
The foos was bland and overpriced.
Great chef. Great food. Be prepared for it to be expensive.
Incredible! Food sublime! chefs sublime! Atmosphere sublime! Experience sublime!
Excellent sushi! Great service, very attentive.
It was great! The food, the service, etc. was on point.
Amazing experience! Second visit! I was afraid I’d overhyped it in my head but it definitely did not disappoint. Servers guide you perfectly. I recommend steering clear of wine. Stick to saki and beer. Best sushi experience ever!
Was just amazing, fish was delicious and very fresh! Our server was amazing, and very sweet!
Himitsu is the place to go to try fish that you may have never tried as nigiri before. All the standard sushi bar options are available but you do yourself a disservice not trying items from the “secret” menu.
Best sushi in town! Authentic Japanese food and the rice is cooked and seasoned to perfection!
Delicious food, excellent presentation, and service is top notch.
Excellent new restaurant with hands on ownership always being present at the restaurant. The fish is always fresh and of excellent quality. The sashimi, sushi and other menu items are expertly prepared. The restaurant is expensive.
This was the dinner where a lovely chef from Mexico made a special dinner for eight of us at the Sushi Bar. Outstanding time! Unique dishes of superb flavor, beautiful presentation with the graciousness of Mitzu and his staff. We’ll never forget it!
Some of the best sushi in the area and the service is great
What a fabulous dining experience. The food was spectacular and service was friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to return.
super sushi restaurante, gran calidad de servicio y comida
Always a great treat. Excellent Japanese dishes, freshly prepared & beautifully served.
Probably the best sushi I've ever had. All the fish was of outstanding quality and perfectly cut, and the sushi rice itself was absolutely delicious.
The menu selection is that of a fine dining sushi place showcasing expensive ingredients, but there are sone great options for a very moderately priced meal.
The sake selection is great. The "Black Dragon" sake is expensive but amazing.
We’ve been here twice, and it was absolutely amazing each time. This time we tried the Omakase with Ivan. He gave amazing service, and is awesome at preparing food. We experienced new and exciting flavors that we typically don’t order. And, some classics as well. WE WILL BE BACK!! Thank you to everyone on staff!
Only discovered Himitsu a couple of months ago, and it is now our "Go-To!" place for authentic and delicious sushi. Head chef Mitsu is amazing to watch, and oh, so entertaining! He is a true artist and even though Himitsu is about an hour drive from our home it is worth every minute of the drive and now that we've found it I can't bear to go to any other Sushi restaurant!
It was my first time eating Japanese food. Enjoyed miso soup and rib eye but thought shoshito peppers and tuna rolls (too expensive) were not to my liking.
