Our 8 person sushi bar and 20 person patio is located in a discrete corner of La Jolla, a setting well suited to our name, which translate to "Secret" in Japanese.
Chef Mitsu Aihara presents a menu of traditional sushi and nigiri, along with Japanese style tapas using the high quality products and ingredients.
This place never disappoints. Food and service is AMAZING. Freshest fish in San Diego. 100/100 would recommend!
Terrific in every way ... we will make this a regular destination.
This was some incredible sushi! Made me fondly remember times in Japan.
Making us leave at the 2 hour point when the restaurant was half empty was a total disappointment
Great place. Excellent service every time I go. Food is always top class and the chefs are great to talk to. Overall excellent environment and always a pleasure to be there.
Original take on traditional Sushi. Special menu is unique and sets them apart. “Hidden” treasure. Next will sit inside at bar.
Amazing food. Intimate atmosphere. Great wait staff. Best sushi ever!
We had the perfect meal for my boyfriend’s 32 birthday :)
Best sushi in San Diego. Don’t miss the honeymoon oyster
Amazing as always!! Insanely fresh, some of best sushi I’ve ever had. Wait staff is always incredibly helpful and have fantastic suggestions
Sushi lover’s dream! Unique selection I have never tried and we have eaten sushi all over world.
An excellent meal! Beautifully prepared and presented. Bar seating where the preparation is easily visible and the sushi chefs willing to engage in conversation, answer questions, and make recommendations.
Love the sushi here. Stopped by for dinner the other night which was great but I really do prefer the lunch menu. Overall great little sushi spot. Just make a reservation in the beginning of the week, not a big deal.
What a find! Some of the finest sushi ever!
I eat here 4-5x a week. Always incredible- they always accommodate to get me in - whether I’m dining alone- or with a party of 4. I only eat at the bar- and there is no better sushi experience - from here to New York. Ozumo in San Fran doesn’t beat Himitsu, even. :)
Extremely fresh sushi. The salmon and oysters were so good. Stick with the fish and seafood options and skip the land morsels. We also had sake and it was the best we’ve had. You simply can’t go wrong with Himitsu - this is one of the best in San Diego!!
We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed our conversations with the chefs and everyone was so nice and helpful.
Sat at the bar,, watched and talked with sushi chefs, ordered from entree menu. Excellent, fresh sushi. Salad and soup gratis. Will go again soon.
Amazing!! Best sushi in san diego, by far!!!!!!!!!
It is amazingly good. Love this place
Sushi and sashimi fish melts like “budda”. Fun and friendly staff
The food was absolutely amazing, fresh and tasy. We went here for a business dinner with 7 people total. Once seated we placed a massive order ($1,000+) One thing I did not like was that the server let us know there was a 2 hour time limit 20 mins after we sat down, and that our table was booked up after that. We did not see anyone come in and felt uncomfortable that she kept counting down our time (30 mins left, etc.). Once we left (8:30) no one took our tables. We spent a lot of money at this dinner and were not aware of a 2 hour time limit when booking. It also took quite a while for our server to come and take our drink orders (Hence sitting 20 mins before she came) We had some team members un-attended for drink orders for the first 30 mins of the meal which I find inappropriate.
The food was incredible. We literally had almost everything. The seating was quite uncomfortable (Wooden benches) and it was chilly outside with a lot of outside noise.
Food and atmosphere were amazing. Will definitely be back!
Amazing experience as always. I eat there 3x a week
Himitsu is awesome. Definitely the best sushi I’ve ever had. Don’t forget to make a reservation in advance! The Omakase (chef’s choice) is expensive, but always worth it. But you can also just order things off of the menu and kind of choose how much you want to spend. It’s really cool that you can eat here and spend a lot or a little and still get to experience the show (if you book the bar) and have a fancy experience on almost any budget. Thanks!!
Sat at the sushi bar and ordered the omakase. So delicious.
Excellent sushi and service! My only complaint is that the music on the patio is a bit loud.
All and all a must try sushi restaurant.
best freshest fish. realy good seaweed salad and super high end sakis
Absolutely a top notch sushi experience and destination in La Jolla. Quality of ingredients is outstanding and abundant and the skill and execution of the dishes are near perfection. From front of the house service and attention is outstanding and welcoming. I have been here twice now and look forward to my next visit to sushi nirvana!
Great atmosphere, and awesome sushi chefs. Very friendly. To top that all off this sushi was amazing. I got the chefs choice sashimi, a seasonal collection of different sashimi, and will be coming back just for that next time I am San Diego.
Damn good food and service. The tostada appetizer was so good we had three of them. Fresh, delicious sushi/sashimi, and even great dessert! Highly recommended !
I heard this was a real "hot spot" but I don't think the sushi was as good as it is from our nearby shop (Sushi Mori in La Jolla Shores)...specifically, almost all of their special rolls are "spicy" so if you don't like spicy food, you either need to order plain sushi or choose the one roll that is not described as spicy. The server was very nice.
Best sushi in La Jolla. By far.
(This is not the place if you want cheap fish or if you whine about "but the portions were so small! In fact, if you are that person, just don't go.)
The sushi menu is somewhat limited but the rolls are good and the fish is fresh. Most of the rolls included tuna and also included jalapeño or other peppers but they were not overwhelmingly spicy. The wasabi caesar salad was very good. We also shared the tostadas which were also very good and a perfect appetizer. The service was very good as well. We sat outside on a rather cool evening but the heaters more than compensated. It was not a knockout but certainly an enjoyable evening.
Chef Mitsu is excellent. Very attentive, very nice conversation and with great recommendations.
Do not come to this little secret, Himitsu, looking for super trendy sushi rolls. DO come expecting the freshest, thoughtful and meticulously prepared nigri and sashimi. But if you do like sushi rolls there are four choices on the menu. If you're fortunate enough to score one of the few seats (8) at the bar, you'll witness the theater of chef's amazing show. Our service was smooth, unobtrusive and super friendly. Fantastic saki selection by the bottle or carafe. Such a surprise and fun idea to choose your own sake cup.
Clean, healthy, delicious!
Go for the omakase, and trust the chef. Just a perfect evening!
Great service and delicious food. Very thoughtful presentation. We had a wonderful time.
We had the tasting menu (omakase). We sat at the bar so we got to see the chef at work and he told us what kind of fish or sushi was served in between bites. Everything tasted great and the service was very attentive. Loved the black sesame pudding desert. We would come again!
We have eaten at Himitsu several times both at the sushi bar and at a table. Great food and wonderful service.
Himitsu lives up to its reputation. The highest quality sushi and sashimi that you can find in San Diego. The Chefs and waitstaff treat everyone as if they are the most important VIP in town. Specials and regular menu items show off the skills of the finest sushi chefs in town. WIll definitely be back.
