Secco at Hilton San Jose is ideal for pre-show dining, boasting "excellent restaurant service, menu, and ambiance." Located near the San Jose Performing Arts Center, it offers convenience with validated parking. The fish tacos and burrata appetizer are highlights. However, some diners note "service was amazing," while others found it inconsistent.

I like to go to Secco when I go to Broadway San Jose Plays - ever since my Capital Club closed down, I really don't have a Go To restaurant... but it has proven to be a consistent good choice. We did the prix fix dinner... had a beautiful piece of salmon... with a wonderful watermelon salad.. but the Chocolate cake dessert... was beyond a 10 out of 10... I have truly never had a chocolate cake that delicious....

Not a great experience. We started off with a female server who seemed on top of things. We had the 3-course special (watermelon/feta salad, NY Steak & Scampi, and chocolate cake.) The salad was flavorful, although the 3 dots of balsamic weren't enough for the plate of salad. As we were finishing our salads, another server (male) came by and said, "Steaks are ready," so I gestured to my half-eaten salad hoping he would figure out that we were still on our first course, but to no avail. He came back with our entrees, and I cleared a place next to my salad so my entree could sit there while I finished course one. The scampi was good, but the steak was more well done than medium and has more fat and gristle than meat. The vegetables were basically raw, and the mashed potatoes tasted grainy. Halfway through dinner, he shows up again with 3 plates of chocolate cake - I asked him to please let us finish our dinner, first. After he walked away with the cake, we finished carving up our overdone steak and called our original waitress over so that we could get another cocktail, and to have her bring back the cake. It was a very disappointing experience. We have season tix for the Center for Performing Arts, and we usually sit at the bar and have a cocktail and an appetizer, which we've always enjoyed. However, this will be the last time we go there for dinner. Not at all enjoyable.

I've been going to Secco before events in downtown for years. I always enjoy coming here. Menu is small to medium and prices are a bit high but overall I keep coming back.......with a special thanks to Moses for making out evening special.

Normally this has bee a fun place to go to before going to the theater in downtown San Jose. The food is good with an open, airy feel about the place, BUT the last two times we have went the service staff has been mean to the point of being surly. One of our guests asked for a Mojito, but was told by our waiter that they don't make those (we found out from the bartender that they do). We later asked for some hot sauce and were told once again that they didn't have any, only to see the table next to us get 2 bottles of hot sauce delivered to them by one of the chefs. A drink that I ordered was slammed onto our table. At another table there was a mix up on their order, and the waiter brought the menu out, forcibly pointing at it and yelling "this is what you ordered!". We are not likely to be coming back.

Like a few other reviewers, we picked this restaurant due to its proximity to the San Jose Performing Arts Center. It allowed us to take our time and eat before a show. The food selection is somewhat broad, but it's basically 1 of each type of food. 1 Pasta, 1 Fish, 1 Steak etc for the entrees. I would say for the service, ambiance, and space, I would consider it expensive for what is provided. It's priced as if you were in a full sit down restaurant, but it's much more a restaurant that's attached to a hotel. The food is rather good for that kind of establishment, but it wouldn't a place I went to if it were not for the 2 crosswalk distance to the theater.

Very convenient to San Jose Performing Arts. We were at the restaurant when it opened after parking across the street, reservation for 6 at 5:15 , took our box of food back to our cars, and made it to the theater in plenty of time. We found out later that the restaurant will validate parking if you park in the Convention Center lot. We have season tickets to the theater and will most likely eat there again before the show.

Service and food were outstanding for our party of 14. I was surprised though at how slowly the food arrive. And for those of us who ordered the fish tacos, the food arrived another 45 minutes afterwards. That was super frustrating tod and disappointing.
