Highland Tap Ratings and Reviews
When I made the reservation, I indicated that it was a birthday celebration. It was actually a double birthday celebration. Mine was yesterday and my friend's is this Friday. No mention of this was made by our host or server. Didn't expect any freebies, but a mention would have been nice.
As for ambience, where we were seated, there were smokers outside and their smoke drifted in when a nearby door was opened. The background music of classic rock were good tracks and played at a nonintrusive level. At least one nearby table was kind of loud occasionally, but not too much.
Service was friendly and efficient.
We both had the prime rib special which was tasty and cooked to our desired temperature. Her side of the potatoes au gratin and mine of asparagus with hollandaise were very good. Rib accompaniments of horseradish sauce and au jus were good complements to the meat.
Terrific option for any type meal in a cozy, quiet environment. Good for socializing or discussing business. Food was very high quality and reasonably priced. Prime rib is a particularly good value. Martini's are nicely served. Setting has a speakeasy feel, with brick walls, wooden booths, and different flare with being below street level on the Highland Ave side. Complimentary valet parking behind the building was great. All staff very cordial and welcoming.
My wife and I LOVE Highland Tap. In my opinion, they have the best steak BY FAR for the price ($30-50 per cut) in Atlanta. Brought my dad and he said it's the best streak he's ever had. I personally don't like a salty rub on a steak; I want to taste the wood fire grill and the savor, and that's what you get here. TONS of flavor. Sides are great, service is always prompt and accommodating. Wide variety of beer, too. Tops on my list for a good steak. Been many times and never disappointed.
We drove about an hour to get there because my relatives were visiting from out of town and wanted great prime rib. And Highland Tap did not disappoint. The food was great (I had the mahi mahi) and they all had Prime Rib. The service was wonderful.
I had not been there in many years and it was just as I had remembered. That's comforting, but it also meant that the decor was a little tired. The dining room could really use some sprucing up. But it is unpretentious and authentically Vi-High.
The service was fantastic, except for the manager, who was kind of awful. My turkey burger wasnt cooked all the way so I told the waiter who graciously apologized and offered to get me something else and to send the manager over. The manager arrived, but before that another employee had taken the burger away. And so he made a sneering comment about how the burger wasnt on the table anymore and was generally a jerk about the whole thing. They did comp the burger, but it left a very sour taste in my mouth.
Dined here bi monthly in the late nineties but not even annually in recent years. The food has been up and down but this visit was a nice surprise. It was pretty darn good and a great value. I still think the prime rib is out of a cryovac bag but was a generous portion and nicely served. Apps and sides are VERY fairly priced. Hope they can survive the VA-HI exodus.
