Highland Avenue Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I had made reservations for Valentine's day, this was our first time at Highland. Our server was very nice (Audrey) and when I told her I have tree nuts allergies she immediately wrote it down. I order the veggie flatbread for appetizer and the Farmer & Chef Vegetarian and my husband the smoke chicken. When the flatbread arrived, the person that brought the food informed us they omitted the pesto since it has pine nuts, this is great customer service. The main course was delicious, i will definitely come back again soon.
We came for the Queens Feast and had a lovely meal. My trout was delicious!! The parsnip and Brussels sprouts salad was tasty and different - it’s alwasy nice to have something unusual that one wouldn’t be making at home. The only thing I might take issue with had to do with wine. It was half price bottles on Thursday but neither of the more moderately priced Pinot Noir selections were available. So I had to order beyond what I would normally have spent. I really think the restaurant should have offered my only remaining choice at the lesser price of my first which was not available. This is also not the first time this has happened.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to all. They have a varied menu both in selection and price.
Our first visit to Highland Avenue was very, very enjoyable. We have lived in Hickory for a couple years and, for whatever reason, have not been there for dinner. We will return soon!
The prix fixe dinner was a solid value, original, and quite tasty. Also a sandwich entree was ordered. The "fried chicken" sandwich was huge, the fresh cut fries were just that, and the price was terrific. Our cocktails were tasty - bartender not stingy with the pour.
Outstanding again. We found this place on Open Table and really love it. They have good wine capabilities and while they, like every one else struggles with older corks, they know their stuff. The food was great. They know how to make a Prime Rib. Hard to find really good Prime Rib.
Worth the visit for sure.
We saw an article in Our State Magazine about the restaurant and thought we would try the restaurant. The food and service were great. There were several large groups and we thought it might ne noisy but it was not bad at all. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are in Hickory.
This is a real gem in Hickory. The connection to Michael Pullen explains the quality but is still a surprise catch for this small city.
Excellent food selection, preparation, and presentation with good alternatives for gluten-free.
Nick did a very capable job serving us.
Highland Avenue has a great mix of menu offerings that change seasonally. I think the food quality is very good with an appealing presentation. The service is very good ad the wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful in providing information from which to make your selections
Honestly the very best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted. Service was great and the experience was fantastic. We came to celebrate our anniversary. The waiter delivered a complimentary dessert that was unforgettable on a plate with happy anniversary written in chocolate shell around the plate. It was our first time but it will NOT be our last!
I wanted to love this restaurant, I really did! The service was amazing. The appetizer we ordered was fantastic (pork belly tacos). HOWEVER our entrees were not good. And I mean, really not good. My husband ordered the Ribeye special medium rare...and he had to basically saw through it with his knife. On top of that it tasted 'funky' to user our server's terminology. The texture was way off and the flavor was very strange (not in a good way). It seemed raw in some places and well done in others. I ordered a chicken dish and it was sub-par. It was very salty and tasted almost like teriyaki chicken from a local Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. So disappointing :(
Highland Avenue was phenomenal from the delicious entrées to our delightful waitress with great recommendations. We ordered the fried oysters, shrimp and grits, and bucatini with cornbread chicken. I must say this restaurant has the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! The atmosphere was inviting, the views of sunset were beautiful, and the staff including the owner where extremely inviting and caring. My family and I were very impressed with Highland Avenue and will definitely be back again very soon!
