Always a pleasure to dine at Highland. Phenomenal food and service.
Amazing farm to table food. Such a beautiful presentation. Such delicious flavors!
Excellent food and overall experience. Unique menu. Really enjoyed the renovated mill look and feel. Definitely would go back and recommend to a friend.
everything during our visit was great!! The service, the drinks, the food, all fantastic!!
Great as always!
Highland Avenue is a beautiful restaurant with unique food and a great atmosphere! I could not have picked a better place to celebrate my 21st birthday! The H.Ave Another cocktail was delicious and the staff made me feel very celebrated and happy! I will definitely return to this restaurant in the near future.
Awesome new menu!! And James the bartender is AMAZING!! His knowledge of wine, spirits and more is so much fun!!
Andrew - is also great!!
Great food, service and atmosphere - what else could you want on a nite out!?!?
My husband's risotto meal was bland and my feta ravioli meal was better. For $11 the flatbread was good but pricey. The ambiance is very nice and our waiter, David, was excellent. For the prices they charge this restaurant needs to up their game significantly with their menu.
Several things on the menu were described or offered as Chef Selections. Our server couldn't describe what was included in them for the evening. While part of a fresh, farm-to-table experience might include a rapidly changing menu, it was frustrating that several items on the menu required ordering without really knowing what you would receive. The Chicken Risotto was very bland without any hints of parmesan which was listed in the description. A restaurant with lovely ambiance, but "menu-roulette".
Lovely restaurant. Was disappointed the trout was no longer on the menu, but food was delicious and we had a very nice experience.
This was my boyfriend and I's fourth time to Highland Avenue, and the best one yet! All of the staff congratulated us on our anniversary on top of being their usually kind and welcoming selves. Even more special, the owner had the chefs prepare us both a complementary appetizer and dessert. All of the food was spectacular. Highland Avenue remains my favorite restaurant-- everyone should go and enjoy!
Eaten here many times since it opened, and will continue to patronize. They were great when opened, had a little issue in between but appear to be getting back as one of the best restaurants in the area.
Enjoyed dining at Highland Avenue celebrating 12 years of marriage. Great food and service.
Made a reservation for 6:30 pm when we arrived our table was ready and waiting on us! This was our 16th Anniversary dinner and was absolutely amazing! We both ordered a steak with firecracker shrimp. The steaks we perfectly cooked and the firecracker shrimp were delicious. Our waiter David was quick, thorough and very courteous. Our food was to our table in a very timely manner. Highland Ave was the perfect place to celebrate our milestone! The Creme Brulee is the stuff dreams are made of!!😍
I made my reservation through Open Table for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary.
I chose Highland Avenue Restaurant and could not have been happier. From the matrie d who greeted us by saying “Happy Anniversary”,to the best server, Andrew who also welcomed us with “Happy Anniversary” and explained menu items to us, to the Highland Avenue Restaurant who presented us each a glass of wine, to the atmosphere, to the ambiance, to the Chef, and finally to the presentation and taste of the food, which was absolutely fantastic. Everyone should experience this 5⭐️ Jewel of Hickory.
The staff was excellent and service was efficient. Food was excellent
I'm only reviewing my most recent experience at Highland Avenue, as my previous times there were outstanding. I brought a large group after my daughter's graduation...service was decent, but the food was terrible. Everything came out cold, overcooked steaks, undercooked pork, bland.
The food was not worth the value. And the shrimp and grits was too smokey.
The food was spectacular!! It went above my expectations! Our waiter was phenomenal and loved the setting, not too fancy and not too casual.
Enjoyed our delicious meal very much. Service and atmosphere was great. Will eat here again
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You can find richer cuisine many places in Hickory for a fraction of the cost. I ordered the pine nut ravioli - it came in a watery bowl, yes watery, and was completely void of any flavor. My friend had the risotto - we were shocked at how much it resembled plain oatmeal in both look and taste. At the end of the meal we found ourselves looking back at the menu and wondering where all of the ingredients listed in the dishes we ordered were hiding. Highland Avenue has not figured out how to hack good food. Service was good. Cocktails were slightly above average.
Wonderful spot with creative, delicious food!
It was our anniversary. The host sat us at a window seat with a great view. The waitress came up quickly to get us started on our drink and food order. Drinks and each course arrived on a very timely manner and that was with a room of prom guest, also. I commend the wait staff and host on their service. The food was delicious from the apricot jam and bread through the main course and on to the homemade desert! We will return!
It's great that Highland Avenue has returned to its high standards of quality dining. For a while, the restaurant seemed to be declining, but the past several times we've been there, it's been terrific again. I recommend it highly! It's a huge asset to the dining scene of Hickory.
Everything brought to our table was exceptional! Especially in Taste! But also beautiful and perfect portions. We especially enjoyed the use of locally grown produce and other local products. The creativity and excellence of the chef’s creations was remarkable...every dish different, every dish a taste sensation. The atmosphere was relaxed, spacious, and comfortable. Thanks for a WONDERFUL evening!
Maybe, food was great, service was not. Waiter was also bartender and he was very busy with drink orders so we spent a lot of time waiting, and waiting. Not his fault and he was very apologetic for the wait, but having to be somewhere after dinner we had to rush through food when we finally got our food. Too bad, I had high hope but may not try again.
Wonderful place to eat will for sure be returning and had an amazing server who is great as his job. We all got Ribeyes and they were fabulous and we will definitely be returning for future dinner plans.
Enjoyed a birthday dinner for my bride. Jennifer was our server and did an excellent job of serving, recommending - particularly the wine - and being attentive without being obtrusive.
We were promptly seated, and soon greeted by ourserver for our beverage order and provided with menus. Service was great. The duck spring roll appetizer was perfect, as well as the Curry Rubbed Smoked Beef Brisket, that was a special for the evening. Looking forward to dining there again in the future.
They were very short staffed so service was very slow and the air conditioning was not working. They do not serve filet mignon which is odd for a high end restaurant....the sirloin was very tough and difficult to chew. They were out of a lot of things on the menu. Ambiance is great but not for the price.
Great place to spend time with friends. Great service and plenty of food options!
We have been to Highland Avenue several times, and it can be up and down. This was a down night. To start, we were seated at one of the tables against the windows, which are fine for two people, but not for three. The drinks were good! The appetizer was delicious!! The rest of the food was just okay. We ordered a hamburger, which was a bit dry. We also ordered the chicken risotto. It was okay. We had ordered it before and really enjoyed it, but this time, it was not nearly as good! The strawberry hand pie was good, even though it didn't resemble a hand pie. The restaurant was busy, which probably accounted for the slow service, but not for the less than appetizing choices on the menu!
Meat and cheese board was good. Chicken risotto, shrimp and grits, NY strip were definitely way below average for even an average restaurant, much less one that prides itself on fresh outstanding dishes. Each of us left on our plate more than we ate. Caesar salad had essentially no dressing and did not taste like any Caesar salad eaten previously. Ice cream was good and brownie was hard but not terrible. Good beer and wine selection. It seems that only “good” items were those not requiring any cooking. We were treating a woman (with husband) for her 70th birthday. We were embarrassed to have chosen this site. Wait staff were fine -won’t be returning!
Pork chop was very disappointing.
Waitress gave incorrect information and was not attentive. The food was good, but not exceptional for the price. We have lost interest in going back.
I had a wonderful experience at Highland Avenue. We had a larger group than anticipated, but the staff bent over backwards to make us comfortable and meet every need. I was extremely impressed with how prompt they were getting our orders in and the food out to us. Will and Erich helped me with seating details leading up to our dinner, and Rachel did a phenomenal job waiting on us throughout the evening. I would easily recommend Highland Avenue to a friend.
First date away from our newborn daughter. We’re from Charlotte & newly relocated to Lincoln County. Had no idea the culinary experience that could be offered in Hickory. Amazing!
Waitress had no welcome or greet, forgot our drink at the bar. Chicken risotto was very bland, bread was dry. The food was just not very good. Cool atmosphere that's about it.
Great experience. Wait staff was very professional. Small mistake with food however they made it right immediately.
The meat & cheese tray was outstanding! Also, we were impressed with the specialty cocktails we ordered. Our service was terrific.
