Highland Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Highland Avenue has a great mix of menu offerings that change seasonally. I think the food quality is very good with an appealing presentation. The service is very good ad the wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful in providing information from which to make your selections
Honestly the very best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted. Service was great and the experience was fantastic. We came to celebrate our anniversary. The waiter delivered a complimentary dessert that was unforgettable on a plate with happy anniversary written in chocolate shell around the plate. It was our first time but it will NOT be our last!
I wanted to love this restaurant, I really did! The service was amazing. The appetizer we ordered was fantastic (pork belly tacos). HOWEVER our entrees were not good. And I mean, really not good. My husband ordered the Ribeye special medium rare...and he had to basically saw through it with his knife. On top of that it tasted 'funky' to user our server's terminology. The texture was way off and the flavor was very strange (not in a good way). It seemed raw in some places and well done in others. I ordered a chicken dish and it was sub-par. It was very salty and tasted almost like teriyaki chicken from a local Chinese restaurant in a strip mall. So disappointing :(
Highland Avenue was phenomenal from the delicious entrées to our delightful waitress with great recommendations. We ordered the fried oysters, shrimp and grits, and bucatini with cornbread chicken. I must say this restaurant has the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! The atmosphere was inviting, the views of sunset were beautiful, and the staff including the owner where extremely inviting and caring. My family and I were very impressed with Highland Avenue and will definitely be back again very soon!
Started off the evening with fried pickled okra! Shared a beet salad and finished off with two orders of bucatini, one with chicken and one with shrimp! Our meal was delicious from start to finish. One of our go to restaurants for farm to table food ! 5 stars!
I travel to Hickory a few times a year and this is the first reservation I make. Cannot express how wonderful the whole experience is. The owner always comes to chat to find out how everything is and everything is always great. I always look over the starters, entrees and dessert to decide my entire meal before ordering. You CANNOT leave without trying the chocolate/caramel mousse tart. It is out of this world...but for chocolate lovers. Such a treat. Can't wait for my next trip in December. The menu probably will have changed with the seasons so I get to try new items. But, I hope they keep the chocolate dessert.
Were in Hickory at the furniture mart and got out right at closing time at 6:00 pm. Couldn't find a place nearby to eat our only meal of the day that didn't have a wait list, so looked on Open Table and found this gem! Great location in renovated hosiery mill. Staff was super attentive. Loved the décor, and the food was creative and quite yummy! Try the gnocchi! If we're back in Hickory again, we will def stop even though it's a few miles off of I-40.
My wife and I chose to dine at Highland Ave. for our anniversary dinner as we had the previous year and we loved the food. Upon arrival we were shuttle to a small table in the bar while there were plenty of empty tables in the dining area and never asked if the bar, area would be okay. My wife and I were baffled as to why that sat us there instead of the dining area but we discussed the possibility that they had a large party or a function that may need to occupy those seats. Throughout dinner we felt that the table was often too small to accommodate water glasses, drink glasses, and the assortment of dishes that we had ordered (appetizer, entrees, dessert). The food was delicious as it always is but the reason for placing us in the bar, basically in a corner left us perplexed. Food was incredible!!! As we finished our dessert we discussed that over half of the tables in the dining area never were used and ultimately we left a little disappointed.
Couple we dined with had a great meal. My wife and I not so lucky. Ordered daily special seared flounder with carrot risotto, flounder over cooked and rissoto tasteless. Waitress brought us two more flounder entrees and they were also overlooked. Have been there several other times and had excellent fish, not sure what happened.
Our server, Andrew, was an absolute delight! He was very knowledgeable of the menu and "specials" choices. He was quick to make an excellent substitution suggestion for an ingredient allergy. The flounder dish was outstanding! We very much enjoyed our evening.
Had a lovely dining experience. Did not feel like I was in a small town... very modernly decorated and excellent food. I live in Naples, FL, and I would rank this among what we are accustomed to enjoying. Did not particularly like the bread, or the smoke flavored butter. Our waitperson, Andrew, was very charming and attentive. When in Hickory, I will definitely dine here again.
