On the corner of Little Bourke Street and Spencer Street, only a stones throw away from Southern Cross station and Tram stop 120 and 96, sits a dining experience quite unlike any other.

It was a great experience!
and lovely experience, kids friendly
Great dinner spot for a special occasion.
We were initially seated near the door. On request we were moved inside further to a great seat beside a window.
Meals were well balanced and delicious.
Wine selection was limited but that was a plus. Often with large wine lists we do not know what we are buying and go on price. Here, with only one Pinot Gris on offer and all wines similarly priced, we did not need to choose and were not disappointed.
Always a pleasure to visit and come to Higher Ground!
What an absolute gem. I came for time to myself, with delicious coffee and IG brunch, I never felt rushed or in the way as a single. The space is stunning. Will be back!!!
We received great service in a super cool building. The food was well priced and excellent quality. My first time here for dinner (I've been previously for coffee and breakfast) but I will definitely be back for dinner.
Exceeded expectations. Great location and fantastic space.
Nice vibe, friendly staff and great location. Good covid safety measures.
Fabulous all round. At first it’s the service and the setting that impress but it’s really the attention to detail on the food and drinks and the overall deliciousness that makes this a standout
Loved it! The food, service, drinks etc were perfect!
The service was extremely slow—we waited over 1.5 hours to get our entrees. Also, while the food was delicious, the quantity did not match up to the $70pp price point.
Kitchen had a bad hair day
Out of set menu course (octopus) and missed and entire enteee course and eventually had to wait 2hrs 10mins for mains to arrive
We booked, so table was ready on arrival. We ordered the chefs menu and it was delicious. We really enjoyed it all the high light was the starter of caponata with parmesan crisp, the octopus small plate was also delicious. The main was a very generous serve of caramelised lamb shoulder with all the trimmings. Dessert was amazing chocolate with spearmint, just delicious. Service was attentive and not intrusive. Great value for money and a really enjoyable night out.
Service was great but food was a bit disappointing, sharing a table with randoms was a turn off as well.
The venue and ambience are amazing, and for those alone Higher Ground deserves a visit. However, food was very mediocre. We had the crab benedict and spiced fried cauliflower. Both were small in size for dishes that cost $25. The crab benedict was average and the the fried cauliflower dish had 3 tiny pieces of cauliflower and taste wasn’t anything impressive. Will not be returning.
Really bad service.
Dined for lunch with a group of 7, didn't notice the other patrons already there, food was absolutely delicious and was really prompt.
Kitchen would not accommodate changes to an already limited menu (e.g. replace crab with cured salmon available from 'extras section' even for the additional extra's $7). But overall tasty food and great coffee with lovely staff.
Love Higher Ground. Its always my go to cafe/restaurant when I'm in Melbourne.
If you want to feel like you don’t matter .. this is the place to visit. Kudos to the cooks as food was amazing but the experience... poor, won’t be going again.
Beautiful venue, with great tasting food and drinks. Meals did take a little long to come out, however staff were very friendly and attentive. I would recommend, and will be coming again 😊
What a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and the food was beautiful. Such a wonderful way to spend a Sunday
Noisy, busy. Confused staff. Weird thing was that the attendant asked what we wanted to drink before we could look at the menu and wasn’t prepared to wait for us to glance at the choices on the menu. We’re not coffee drinkers so can’t just say latte or whatever. It was 10 minutes or so until she came back for our order. More soft furnishings are needed so that my husband and I didn’t feel like we had to yell at each other over the table to be heard.
We has to wait 20 min for our coffee and 15 more for our food to arrive. We could see waiters and staff moving back and forth with limited efficiency. I would suggest to analyse your current procedures to make it easier for them. We saw host take clients to table , back for menu back for water back for order etc.
Great food, beautiful interior, but coffee service was very slow on a Sunday morning and coffees came out cold.
I guess I went at their busiest time and maybe they were short staffed? 30 minute wait to get my coffee, and then another 30 mins for food. I would have ordered another coffee and a dessert but they never came back to check on us. Was very noisy. Food was tasty though.
Food and place is great but the staff were very distant. Food and coffee took a very long time to arrive. After an hr seated we were advised we have 10 minutes left on the table but our food had still not arrived. After that though the staff were friendly but could do with better attention to detail.
Loved everything about higher ground. The wait staff were exceptional and extremely lovely. I will definitely be coming back and already recommended it to my family and friends.
lovely, friendly service and were able to cater to my dietary requirements (gluten free) with ease!
Shocking customer service, horrible coffee abs cold food
Great venue, fantastic food - order hot ricotta pancakes - unbelievable and so instagramable!
the food is very good. we asked to serve all the dishes together and they arrived one by one and we waited 30 minutes for the last .
Great place to visit, love the atmosphere. Great food and the wait time was quick :)
Small meals. Unique menu but didn't really cater for people who want standard type meals.
Coffee good though.
Great place, really attentive service even when very busy. Book ahead.
Awesome venue, interesting menu, enjoyed the cauliflower scramble eggs. Not a lot of cauliflower though... but still yum. My friend had the cauliflower salad, will get that next time!
Brilliant! The Nduja Toast Breakfast was sensational!
Very aesthetically pleasing building. Staff were nice to talk to, although a lot walking around aimlessly (our empty plates and coffee cups were on the table for far too long). The crusts on our toast was way too difficult to cut - almost burnt on both meals.
A nice venue to have casual catch-up with friends.
