What Insiders Are Saying
High Street on Hudson is a Philly import in the West Village that will happily make you a sandwich or a bowl of tripe. You should have both.
Los sándwich están deliciosos! En especial el de Salmón
The bread was outstanding. The lamb was well prepared, but served with a lot of goat cheese, and the combination just didn’t work. The fried chicken had good crust, but there wasn’t enough meat, and the dressing on the accompanying lettuce wedge didn’t have much taste. Service was excellent. All in all, though, given the prices, it’s not a place that I can strongly recommend.
Opentable incorrectly assumed the restaurant was open on New Years Day ay 8:30 am (my reservation) when it only opened at 9am which was frustrating
Food was terrible
From beginning to end excellent
This place used to be much better. Not sure what happened, maybe a new chef
although i did not give a 5 for many of the categories i will say the FOOD IS EXCELLENT. very unusual combinations of foods, tastes, spices made the food very good. however, my salmon came and was very under cooked and although they took it back without any problems my fellow diner was completely finished with their meal before my dinner was served (made a new piece of fish for me, rather than just recooking, which was great, but he dining experience of watching my friend eat and then she watching me isn't ideal). they did give us a free dessert to make up for the glitch and our waiter was very apologetic but it made a serious dent in our dining experience. the place is a bit loud, but still a pleasant environment. we didn't have drinks, but next time we will - the cocktails looked amazing.
Not bad for dinner, but truly awful breakfast. The eggs were worse than a bodega and, greens shredded and under cooked and sausage barely edible. What a disappointment for such a charming restaurant!
Lamb was tough! Ordered bread ($5) and had to ask for it 3 times.
Pleasant staff, very noisy due to close proximity of tables, very limited menu, some dishes and drinks are very small portions, wines by the glass are weak, 3 of the 5 dessert selections are alcohol.
Won’t be returning!
Fantastic dinner. Plates are sized perfectly for sharing. The chicken was perfectly cooked and quite moist. Appetizers and dessert were also very, very good. I have to start coming more often.
Great food, terrible service. Waiter forgot about us on multiple occasions, ordered food that never came out and when we finally got another server to get us our bill, we were still charged for the food we never received. It wasn't very busy (it was a Monday at 11am) so I'm not sure what the disconnect was.
Overall the food was fantastic deserving much higher grades. Unfortunately, the lamb I chose for the entree was tough and almost inedible. When I complained they graciously comped me the dish.
Appetizers, shoshito peppers and a Anadama bread were luscious as were desserts - an out of this world fruity cake with unbelievable frozen yogurt.
We’ve been twice before with great food experiences. This last time was hugely disappointing. Some of the food was lukewarm, the brisket was really fatty this time, the cod was over cooked.
Was sitting down for ages and no one told us it was counter service only in the morning.
Great service, but the food was awful. The chicken was extremely dry and had obviously been reheated.
coffee was worse than I remember and we were really squeezed into a tight corner.
This used to be a great restaurant with an eclectic menu and great chef. The chef and menu has changed. Now it is just blau food that I can get better elsewhere and no longer unique.
I was super excited to try this restaurant, but disappointed by the experience. Really creative menu and space. Our server was nice. But the place was eerily quiet. I went with 3 friends on a Tuesday night around 7:30 pm - downtown dinner prime time right? We were one of just a handful of parties in the space. It felt like one of those creepy midtown restaurants that's past its peak. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something was just off. As someone who loves dining in the west village, the $30 entree is not worth it at this restaurant.
We ate at High Street on market in June. Loved it so much we knew we had to go to the NYC restaurant. Finally made it last week. It was all we wanted it to be. WE plan to go back tomorrow for a pre-dinner knosh.
Food was great as always, but service was lackluster. Had several servers over the course of our meal, none of whom seemed to care much about our experience.
Service and food were great!
Our first time for dinner, and we ate early, peaceful and quiet. A little different than the brunch, lunch bustle of our prior visits!
I was a bit disappointed that the dishes were uneven. The ceviche was outstanding, as is their bread; but the charred cabbage and the eggplant fondue were OK.
I enjoyed the service - attentive yet relaxed. No pressure to eat fast and pay, which is rare in restaurants nowadays.
The high reviews online did not really represent our experience. We were first asked to order and pre-pay at the counter near the entrance before taking a seat. A bit weird but ok I guess... The sandwiches we ordered were just ok. Good quality ingredients but average execution; taste was a bit bland and dry. Service was extremely poor, virtually non-existent, waiters hardly acknowledging us, asking if everything’s alright or checking in if we would’ve liked a dessert or coffee, not even a goodbye upon leaving the restaurant after our meal and leaving our tip. I feel this place is trying to be something it clearly isn’t, bordering on being pretentious, and in my opinion overrated based on my own experience today.
I have eaten here twice. The first time the food and experience were solid. Good food, great service, solid value. The second time was underwhelming. Service felt disconnected with multiple items run to us as the wrong table, entrees dropped with little explaination or consideration for the diners, water left I filled, glasses left empty, etc. The steak was also over seasoned. And the desserts tasted as if they had been in a refrigerator all day. The flavors and textures all ran together.
Everything was totally delicious at dinner, and the service was friendly and excellent from beginning to end.
We dine lots of excellent restaurants.
This was one of the best dinners we've ever had!
We also love the relaxed, informal ambiance at High Street on Hudson.
Had a great time with my friends testing out this place during Restaurant week. Loved what I was served and will be back to order a la carte next time.
A truly wonderful neighborhood gem - always delightful and the waitstaff couldn't be more pleasant and professional. Their menu is seasonal and as such is always changing. Never ever had a bad meal and the wine list is truly superb! I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.
Loved it. We all went outside of our comfort zone on choices and loved every bite. My 14 and 18 year old both loved their meal and the bread with malted butter appetizer was a simple, but wonderful surprise.
What a pleasant surprise! Everything we had was bursting with flavor from the salad with its middle eastern spices, the pasta mid-course to the skirt steak and bronzino entrees. Our server was attentive, helpful and cheerful. Would definitely go back.
So great. Couldn't quite say 'outstanding' but.. what IS outstanding is the quality of the ingredients, the cool presentation - without being 'precious' - and that every dish was interesting and delicious. The Server really knew his stuff to a T, and was able to explain the menu beautifully.
Excellent Saturday night meal - course pacing was perfect, all the wait staff extremely attentive. The food was creative and executed with attention to detail and well-balanced seasoning. We even had the opportunity to linger and talk because our waiter noticed we were having a good time. All around great experience.
To be honest, one of the best meals we've had in our 5 years in the US! Friendly and skilful service and personal. Great food nicely and simple seasoned. The skirtsteak was awesome
Food excellent- very small portions on pasta which though we were warned about but was even smaller than expected.
Ended up being more expensive that expected and left restaurant hungry.
We enjoyed the entire experience and will consider returning.
Amazing food. Service is excellent and ambiance.
Small venue on Hudson Street in the West Village. Nicely done but somewhat rustic. Small menu but interesting. Great bread! Good wine list.
This is an excellent restaurant, with good food, exemplary service, and pleasant ambiance.
Perfect evening. Excellent food and service.
