On March 19, 2018, we celebrated my wife's 60th birthday at High Cotton. Everything was outstanding - people, food, and ambiance. The server was outstanding and very professional - we never noticed him until we needed him for suggestions or service. He did not hover, and he kept his comments polite and brief. Extremely professional, which we greatly appreciated. Also, the hostess politely welcomed us and seated us, and the manager was extremely kind, pleasant, and not stuffy. He made a nice round of the room to check on things. We have been to many restaurants in Charleston, but this may be the best dining experience in a very pretty setting and a very nice location. Huge thumbs up and many thanks go to everyone at High Cotton, including the very nice service people with water ... and the chiefs and food preparers. Can't say enough! PS We did not eat in the bar area, but they had a nice live music group in the bar area that seemed to be well liked by the patrons.
Had a delicious brunch on Sunday! Enjoyed the Bloody Mary and Brut trio with crab cake benedict (side of cheddar grits) and shrimp and grits. All was wonderful! The side of grits didn’t have an extreme amount of taste, but still delicious.
First time in charleston, wanted some southern cooking and seafood and this place had both. Great food with a side of southern hospitality.
Absolutely wonderful service and wonderful food! Would highly recommend High Cotton!
Outstanding venue in historic downtown Charleston
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at High Cotton. our server Adam was very professional and the food was outstanding. A nice wine selection added to the great time we had last Saturday night. My wife would highly recommend the NY Strip as I would the pan seared tuna. Both dishes are incredible. Great place to on a date night. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and presentation. Our waiter seemed a little baffled by 2 ladies that wanted a cocktail first and then ordered a nice bottle of wine. It felt like he never seen that before as he kept trying to take the wine list while we were deciding food. I couldn’t order wine until I knew what we were eating. It worked out fine, but it did feel a little weird.
Went for brunch. Food and service were both excellent. Nice atmosphere. Restaurant is split into different dining rooms, and also a bar area, so it isnt too loud. Parking garage across the street and down a block.
I know everyone claims it in Charleston but THIS PLACE had the best she-crab soup. Wine list is superb. Service was lovely. Great date night for my husband and I.
The food and service are quite good (especially if you like seafood), but the real draw for us is the live jazz in the bar! Bartender was fun, friendly, and informative. Great to hear good music in person by local talents.
Fantastic restaurant for dinner with friends. 5 of the 6 said it was their favorite meal while we were in town.
The evening special fish was only special because of its price of $42.00. It was dried out more expensive than anything on menu and the vegetables would fit in 2 tablesppons
Great service and food. Highly recommend .
Fifth anniversary for my wife and me (her mom, daughter and our grand-daughter joined this time)....we met at High Cotton March 15th, 2013, and we celebrate our good fortune with them each year! We met in the reception area; adjourned to the bar; and started a fabulous friendship that led to marriage two years ago this May. High Cotton is our favorite brunch venue in Charleston, as well. Service is outstanding (doesn't matter who attends); food is amazing (fish is my FAV); we enjoy the bar (all the reasons stated above); and we have the best time when we go! All our "out of town" guests become acquainted with High Cotton and our story. Another great chapter in the best High Cotton story ever!!!
Ambiance was great, food was amazing (baked oysters are to die for) and the service was on point. Can’t wait to go back!
We were told to have shrimp and grits in Charleston, and this dish was excellent at High Cotton!
Great atmosphere with live jazz being played, excellent service from Melissa and our food was very good from apps through entrees! Would recommend—enjoyable evening!
We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at High Cotton. The staff was very helpful, making excellent beverage and food recommendations. The tuna poke, arugula and beet salad, shrimp and grits were delicious!!
High Cotton restaurant continues to serve excellent food with excellent service and southern hospitality. They have a jazz dual playing excellent jazz music throughout the evening to add to their already superb atmosphere. This restaurant is definitely for those who enjoy dining!!
We visit High Cotton for Sunday brunch and the whole experience from beginning to end was just fantastic. The meal was creative and the service was attentive without being overbearing. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Best shrimp n grits from coast to coast, if going to Charleston don’t miss it.
Excellent service with a great menu with many choices, food is always fantastic
Food was salty and lobster was rubbery. Server was stretched and we didn’t get much attention.
My son and I were visiting from NJ so he could attend the College of Charleston’s Accepted Students’ weekend. We had a nice table at the window in the small dining area and Brendan was our waiter. We split a field greens salad and the baked oysters with cheese and spinach. Delicious. My son ordered the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection and I took Brendan’s recommendation and had the tile fish coated in oats. It was so good.
Gathered for special day of wedding planning. Had great food and service.
We used to love High Cotton. Went to the restaurant for over 15 years. Went after the change in ownership and was disappointed. Gave it one my try and while it was ok, it was a shadow of its old self. Like all Hall’s restaurants we had to wait a fairly long time for our reserved table. The menu is probably half of what the old menu. Some food was great (ribeye) others awful (tuna). Servers were very nice and attentive.
This is not a bad restaurant, but compared to the old High Cotton it’s very disappointing.
She crab soup and crab Louie salad was delicious. Manhattans were very good too. They also had a 3 piece jazz band playing in the bar that you could hear in the dining area. Very nice dinner.
One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Great food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommended
My husband and I were more than pleased with the service, food, and genuine kindness at High Cotton! Everything was of high quality and we felt very welcomed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in need of a date night or celebration of a special occasion!
Jonathan an expert server knew menu thoroughly - service was professional and unobtrusive - food just as good
Very small Lobster tails added to steak dinner were a big disappointment
We loved High Cotton. The decor is beautiful. The live jazz music was a bonus. The food was delicious, but the service was absolutely outstanding. Our waiter walked across the street to their sister restaurant to get us half and half for our coffee because they had run out. Now that is service!
First time dining at High Cotton, enjoyed the whole experience. Food was fabulous & service was great.
Will definitely return!
Menu must be upgraded. More seafood offerings (especially Shrimp). Prices are getting rather steep....probably to the point that we will look at other options in the future- beef offerings were especially high.
Sunday Brunch. Nice mimosa trio, great crab cakes eggs Benedict.
Took forever to get waited on!
Really really liked the ambiance and the bar with the jazz band -- it was very warm and inviting....the waitress was great -- very personable and quick, loved the brunch cocktail. I ordered the she-crab soup -- I had a few of them over the weekend at various restaurants (it is a must order for me when in Charleston!) -- the soup was very nicely seasoned, had a great taste but had some crab shells (not easy when dealing with crab though so I get it!). My fiancé ordered the muffin which he really enjoyed. I must say though we were both disappointed with the eggs benedicts that we ordered (I ordered the traditional, my fiancé ordered the crab). The egg yolk was not runny and the hollandaise was a bit broken. Maybe I'm a bit odd, but I like my eggs benedict with a runny yolk and a creamy hollandaise. Will try to get there again to try another brunch item but I was sadly disappointed as I so wanted to give this place a 4 or a 5 star.
Great ambiance, food and service. Terrific combo playing throughout the restaurant for burnch, wonderful brunch selections and great service. Thanks!
They made our anniversary a special occasion! Thank you High Cotton! Highly recommended.
As is my habit, I started off with my usual cocktail before dinner. My drink is a bourbon old fashioned, with Blanton's bourbon. The bartender charged me $30 for one drink. A bottle of Blanton's sells for about $60. I ordered scallops for my entree, which were very good......all 3 of them, for a cost of $38. I don't mind high prices, but not when you don't get value for your money.
