It was our 30th Anniversary and this was the perfect place. Food was great, had an excellent window seat and really loved the jazz in the background. Also, staff hit all the right notes and the fried oysters were best I’ve ever had.
My boyfriend and I came to High Cotton for his birthday. I had a good meal; however, my boyfriend was disappointed because 1. The scallop entrée portion size was too small for the price. For $38 you should get more than 3 scallops. 2. He was upset they could take out the bacon from the baked oysters. He’s Jewish so he doesn’t eat pork. They should be able to hold bacon for non-pork eating patron. After all, Charleston is very diverse.
Classy restaurant , exceptional menu (dinner), one of the best calamari appetizers we've had, ample portions and an excellent wait staff
Although the experience was very good, I thought it was extremely pricey
My daughter was visiting from Texas. She has Celiac Disease and is a vegan. The waitress took the time to listen to her needs and discussed those with the chef. NO PROBLEM! She delivered a gorgeous gluten-free, vegan vegetable plate to her and she was in heaven. We will return regularly to High Cotton for our dinners. Thank you!
The service was very good. Our server made several suggestions when asked. We were there for Sunday brunch and the portions were large. My wife had the chicken and biscuit and the biscuit was HUGE. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was very good.
Loved the food and our waitress Heather was amazing!
What a wonderful establishment! Very good service and great food! The facility is unique and very classy indeed. The waiter was VERY knowledgeable and VERY GOOD at servicing us.
Tuna was delicious and the smoked gremolata, of which I was skeptical, was good enough to eat every bit!
High Cotton is a great place to eat for any occasion.
My husband and I went for a 30th wedding anniversary and had an amazing experience the food and drinks were fabulous our waiter Seth rocked . overall it was fantastic everything was well worth it. Great experience best dirty martinis ever and again the food was phenomenal
Great Service and food was fantastic, as always!
We reserved a specific table about two weeks in advance through Open Table. We received a call the day of our reservation telling us that the table we reserved was not available because it was a highly popular table. They requested that we use another table on the same side of the restaurant in the opposite corner. This did not set well with us, but since it would be difficult to find another restaurant that evening, we agreed to move. Since it was our anniversary, we were disappointed that we did not get the table we wanted. We will not go back to this restaurant again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at High Cotton!
Hadn’t been here in 5 years and brought my husband and close friends (we all live out of town now) for the first time. Was every bit as great as I remember it and our server Fabian made it even better. Perfectly paced, excellent wine recommendations, phenomenal food. Thank you all!
Wonderful birthday celebration!
Servers are very nice, especially in the bar
Outstanding service, exceptional food and a personal touch. The server was friendly and fun. Large wine selection and sommelier service at the table for decanting. The specials were delicious and perfectly prepared. A special visit from Tommy Hall and the chef topped off the evening. I would recommend this to anyone dining in Charleston, a city with many fine choices.
Sat at seriously the worst table in the restaurant, incredibly loud because we were practically a part of another group’s conversation, food was overrated and not even warm.
Great food and service, a bit pricey but worth every cent
One of the best in Charleston. The food is amazing and every detail is thought out. We were celebrating a special occasion and didn't feel rushed at all. The service is also stellar. Can't wait to return!
We made reservations for the two of us weeks ahead. The receptionist never smiled or made eye contact. We were led through a crowded section and then backed out to another route to our table. We were seated at a small square table at a bench that we shared with a large family. We could hear every word they said. Other larger round tables were available which were filled while we were eating. We expected a nice quiet private meal which did not happen.
Fabulous brunch as always!
One of my favorite places in downtown Charleston! Great location; great atmosphere; great food. Thank you!
Everything from service to food lived up to our high expectations. Fun and authentic Charleston brunch.
Our server Seth was amazing and remembered us from our rehearsal dinner last year. He gave us champagne and a nice seat by window. Highly recommend
Wonderful restaurant! The staff could not have been any nicer. The food was delicious. I would highly recommend going to this restaurant if ever in Charleston.
Food was good but way over priced. I had the grouper special - small (but good) piece of fish, some kale and 3 baby carrots for $42. Come on guys - this is way too high. We had 3 people only 3 liquor drinks and the bill was $200. Maybe they can get away with it from the tourists but, but I won't be back.
Yummiestfried oysters in town (except maybe at Leon's).
Great food,service and atmosphere!!!
it was great!
Very good food. Service was mediocre. Server seemed bored and offered little assistance with recommendations.
Vacation. Weather was awesome. Food was ok... not like it’s been in the past. We honeymooned in Charleston 15 years ago and always came back to High Cotton every year with such great experience. This year was a huge disappointment with both food and service. My steak was extremely salty and my husbands tuna was not exceptional like usual. Servers for the last two times have had horrible attitudes. We are very fun loving people. We will not be back.
VERY pricey! If you get the special, no price quoted, and it’s one of highest on the menu. Too noisy for good conversation. You are IN high cotton when you eat there bc of prices. Food is presented well. Service is not lacking.
Food was really delicious and the service was attentive and frequent. Four of us went and everyone ordered something different so we could share. All four meals were delicious! Ambiance is awesome and it’s in a great spot of Charleston to go out afterwards.
Great ambiance and service. Food was delicious. Overall a great experience.
One of the best meals we've ever had in Charleston. It was a wonderful experience. The portobello mushroom appetizer and the ribeye steak were top-notch.
Not one to leave a negative review but we were so disappointed with the food at High Cotton on Easter Sunday. We were a party of 5 and 3 of the 5 ordered the ribeye. Every steak was over cooked (all were ordered rare) and all were served medium to well done. For the $500 we spent (no alcohol) we certainly left greatly disappointed, never to return.
Not the High Cotton we used to go to. Went for Easter dinner and was disappointed with the lack of diversity on the menu. Seafood and two steak entrees that's it. Not the Southern Cuisine it used to be. Some things don't need to be changed!
Easter Bruch $45 per plus. 45 minute wait despite reservation. 2 1/2 hours at table for 3 courses. Shrimp and grits had NO shrimp. Deserts we wanted were sold out. Food was cold. Waiter was invisible most of those 2 1/2 hours. The manager appologized and adjusted the bill. Halls - if you want to have a quality reputation DO NOT oversell the reservations! We eat with you often so we don’t want you to drop in quality because you have so many places to contend with.
Easter Brunch--did not specify limited menu when made reserv. After 1 hr 20 min had only received apps. When entrees came, grits were solid and not even warm. Food barely ok, service poor, noise level high. Final straw was trashed ladies room with no TP, and half a dozen ladies standing, waiting.
