Tonight we visited a local Wilmington place on Market street, Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant. It has been in operation since 1980. Started off with our favorite Oysters on the half shell and drinks, Caesar salad and entrees. My wife had Fra Diavolo pasta with Blackened Shrimp and Scallops while I had local Trigger Fish with Collard greens!

We thought this was going to be just another "chain" type "fried seafood place. Well, we were very wrong! All the dishes are homemade, including salad dressings, and desserts!! Our starter was oysters which were served ice cold, and they were yummy! Our seafood entrées were cooked perfectly and delicious! I would definitely go back, again and again!! Thank you!!

Old School, Very local seafood place. The Shecrab soup was very good as was the shrimp and grits. In fact, everything was very good. Not expensive either. My only complaint is they could be more generous of the alcohol pour. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised and will return again soon. Real good service too.

As a out of town, finding a good restaurant is difficult. I was drawn to this restaurant because of the she crab soup. While it was good, it wasn’t hot. When I brought this to the servers attention, they microwaved it and brought it back to me. That to me is a huge no-no from a hospitality standpoint. We weren’t greeeted for at least 10-15 mins of sitting down. Had to bring it to the hostesses attention. Server claims no one told her we were seated in her section. That’s also unacceptable. I wanted to leave but my husband was forgiving. The portions on the layers are not worth it for the price. I suggest not wasting your time going to this establishment. I was not impressed on but by anything they had to offer. The experience was not worth it. Go to Michaels Seafood like everyone was telling us we should have done.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant. Seating was quick and comfortable. Our server was prompt and courteous. Food was quite delicious. Especially enjoyed the lobster dip as an appetizer.

The menu was varied, yet tight. I got the sheepshead and it was cooked perfectly. Sides were nice. The warm fluffy cheddar biscuit that arrived with my glass of wine was wonderful! Sat in the Oyster Bar. Cozy atmosphere.

This has been one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I went on vacation and couldn’t wait to visit. The crab dip was extremely small in portion, yet overpriced $16. The dip had so many crab shells in it I had to send it back. I ordered fried shrimp and scallops and it was subpar. Highly disappointed. In search of a new seafood restaurant. I always recommend this place to others who vacation there. Unfortunately, not anymore.

If you're looking for Seafood this is the place. Other things on hte menu if yur partner isn't into Seafood. Staff friendly, and food was esxcellent. Service waws a little on the slow side. Would definitely return.

Mixed review here - 4 Stars because I enjoyed the food - there were people in my party that didn’t. 1) scallops - I thought they were good - but needed a better sear. Others in my party thought they were too peppery ( I disagree ) I had the tuna M/R blackened - it was good ( tuna was rare , but that is better than over cooked), I though t there could have been more seasoning . Kids had crab legs - they were happy- Check ( with 2 beers , 2 cups of soup and 2 appetizers) for 5 was $185-

Fun spot. We dined on the outdoor covered patio with gas fire pit. We started with some peel and eat shrimp and they brought cheddar biscuits for the table. Delicious! Our Seahawk freshman and her boyfriend shared the steamer platter. My husband had the captain’s platter and I chose a pick two fried. We all enjoyed our meal. They had the football game on and the fire was nice on the chilly evening.

Outstanding meal— both soups were wonderful, clams and fried oysters best we have ever had and the grilled scallops were fresh, tender and delicious. Our server, Stephanie, was attentive and had a lovely personality. It was a was a terrific Sunday evening dinner and we highly recommend.

There were 4 of us in our party that arrived at 5:30 with reservations even though restaurant wasn’t busy. Waitress was attentive at first got our drinks and order quickly but then we rarely saw her again. After our orders were put in they ran out of the main chef’s starch. Instead of notifying us of the change they just assumed we wanted the substitution. We flagged down a different waitress since we couldn’t find ours to ask about the change. She explained the reason and ask was it not ok.? No it wasn’t, one of our party was allergic and the other didn’t enjoy the flavor. Only one starch was changed even though 2 starches had been ordered. The food was ok but not as good as some of the reviews make it seem. Toward the end of our dinner our waitress finally shows up to ask about dessert. All our drinks are empty and we had to ask her to refill them ( mostly waters) and ask about the other starch replacement. She acted very annoyed we weren’t happy with her choice of sides she chose for us. She did substitute the one, refilled 1 drink. At this time we were done. We declined desserts. I will add we are locals and have been patrons to this restaurant numerous times over the years. This is first time I was not happy with my meal and services.

The cheddar biscuits were good the crab legs weren’t that meaty . The food was really good not great in my opinion . The waitress was very attentive . They wouldn’t seat our party of four until we got there five minutes later . I don’t like it when restaurants do that especially since they had plenty of open tables .

Food was mediocre at best. I got seafood platter - it have an abundance of “too fried” clam strips - hard as a rock. Our server, Sabrina was slow and inattentive. We sat for over 10 minutes with no drink refill. Will never eat there again

Our dinner was delicious, and a very nice selection of food and preparations. The wait for our dinner was a little long, though the server did give us updates. We sent one member of our party in to secure our table while we circled and circled the parking lot praying for a spot.

First time in. Food was good. Oysters were nice, crab dip was good. Shrimp & Grits & Grouper with Nut crust was good. Service was decent. The one thing that was annoying/bizarre- ordered Tropical Pain Chiller mixed drink from their menue, and it was really sweet and had a funny taste to it. I have rarely sent a drink back at a bar or restaurant, but really couldn't bring myself to drink this, so I told our server I really didn't like it, and why and before I really could say why, she interrupted to say "I can't take it back it's ILLEGAL to take a drink back in NC". THIS is NOT true! I'm from NC and have NEVER heard this ever. Looked it up, and on line doesn't support this. I had asked to switch for a glass of wine. Long story short, she said she'd have to get manager approval. But came back and said she could switch it out. Still charging me $12 for the drink I sent back (surely the wine was cheaper, but whatever!). This honestly was ridiculous and bizzar. Kinda put a bit of a damper on my experience, but overall was a decent dining experience. Doubtfull I'll go back though with so many other far better dining experiences to be had in this area
