Hieronymus Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar
Great online reservation. Very friendly service. Great food.
We don’t come here often enough.
All around good service and good food from the back of the house.
Restaurant appears managed well, everybody on the floor working together to seat, serve and clear. Food came out smoothly.
Will come back.
The food and the service was great. I ordered a Dark and Stormy for $9.00 and it was awful. Didn’t come with any limes and tasted like crap. The bar tender obviously had no idea what the hell he was doing. Other than that the place was great!
Outstanding she crab soup. Oysters we're small but very tasty. Shrimp and grits was amazing. Also, Brennan was a fabulous waiter.
Great hometown feel to the restaurant. We had the Steamed Oysters, Steemer, Flounder, and
Good food, relaxed, but a bit expensive. The shrimp and scallops were great.
Great food, great atmosphere. Best Shrimp & Grits ever
Hieronymus is an icon in Wilmington that you don't want to miss! Honestly the best fish entree I have ever eaten!
Waitress Was friendly and accommodating. Food was cold when brought to the table. Ordered grilled shrimp and it came blackened. Waitress immediately replaced the dish. Servers were very young and inexperienced
We had a 5:30 pm reservation and had to wait for approximately 20 minutes to be seated. However the hostess were very apologetic and attentive. After being seated, the service and food were great. It was a very accommodating dinner served out. If you like seafood, I recommend you try this establishment. This restaurant is on my top 3 list of places to eat in Wilmington, NC.
Tasty local seafood restaurant! We enjoyed the ambience and the friendly service, definitely recommend to have a meal here if you’re visiting the coastal towns of NC!
The fresh fish is always good. I had blackened corvina, and enjoyed it; the others in our party also enjoyed their meals, although my husband said he would not order fried red drum again. Salads were good, but the supposedly steamed broccoli and cauliflower turned out to be brocolini swimming in butter sauce. The watery sauce filled the plate and I had to move my fish to my bread plate. Disappointing.
Service was unfortunately quite slow. We could see that our server was busy (not just standing around chatting or whatever), but once our friends arrived it was 25-30 minutes before our server even greeted them and took their drink orders. He did well while he was there, and I suspect that, like many other restaurants, they were short handed.
We will be back; Hieronymous is one of of favorite restaurants. I don’t know that our friends were impressed enough to plan a return visit
Amazing food and service with Michelle.
a but come down every now and then to see friends. Been coming here for 35 plus years. Never disappointed. We now live in VA. When we do come back to this area, we always eat here. Service last night was "spot on"! Food, as the "usual" great! Looking forward to our next trip down!
Food quality and service was all OK …. No issues, but nothing to write home about with exception of the nut crusted lobster sauce option for their fresh catches of the day … I chose the swordfish … the sauce with a hint of cinnamon was very good
The food was delicious, atmosphere was great. Price was good. 2nd time going, will be going back.
Food was excellent. Made reservation days before, but still had to wait longer than I thought for seating. Slow pace.
Very nice family dinner. Our waitress, Jessica, was pleasant and very efficient. Food came quickly and was quite good. All 4 in our party were very pleased.
Great place to eat, Jess was a wonderful waitress and her recommendations right on. Seafood a little different, but fresh and very delicious. Thank
Great place with lots of choices from fried to fresh seafood daily including oysters. We will definitely return.
Oysters, salad and cheese biscuits were great! However the main meal was so-so. Ordered the Grouper and it was overcooked and dry.
Good food, very casual, but waited a long time for our food and then they gave our food to the wrong table, so we had to
Great food. I will be back. Michaela did a great job as our waitress.
The food was really good. Casual and very friendly atmosphere.
Good enough service
Been trying to go here for sometime and Friday was when all the stars aligned. So glad they did. This is a superb no frills great food great service friendly fish house. I've been going to places like this for a long time and when I find one like this, I mark it for frequent return. Menu is driven by what is fresh. They offer several great sounding preparations I selected Carolina style Black Drum. You get a large portion cooked perfectly. Two traditional sides. Recommend grits with lobster sauce. My partner ordered the fried captains dinner. It is a "loosen your belt a notch" delight. Lots of well prepped fried seafood. From scallops, clams shrimp to fish it is fantastic. Oh yea, if you saved room. The home made cheesecake is to die for. Only had it this good in NYC. Great food reasonable price. A little loud crowd, so maybe not the place for a romantic night unless you just love good seafood
The fish was so fresh & delicious and live that they have local beers on draft.
The waiter was great, friendly and personable. The problem was that it is an oyster bar and they were out of oysters. They had fresh catch fish listed , but they were out of 4 of the 6 choices. Even out of some of the side dish choices. Our food was excellent, and we enjoyed what we had, but we had to keep changing our order.
We chose this restaurant mostly because it was one of the only restaurants open on Monday-our only day in the area. We were so pleased with the food-it was all delicious-the best seafood we've had in a long time. Our party of 4 ordered 4 different fresh catch options and each chose a different preparation method (what a GREAT thing to offer-pick a fish, pick a style). Each one of us loved what we ordered. We also all shared the she-crap soup (rich & filling and amazing), oysters (very fresh and tasty) and dessert. Super casual atmosphere, we came in right from the beach. Very friendly wait staff.
Catch of the day done Carolina style was killer. Service was exceptional.
Father’s Day dinner was nothing but amazing. The wait staff was excellent
Reservation was at 7:45 but wasn’t seated until 8:30. The management wasn’t that good and didn’t help or say anything when it was taking long, didn’t give us anything for it. Server was super nice, but food was just okay. Wouldn’t go back based off of the wait even with having a reservation in advance.
Restaurant was very crowded but the waitress and staff pulled it off. Food was served in a timely manner and was hot. Food was delicious
Great food and service!! Will definitely be going back
Great food and service! Large portions. Madison was a fantastic server!
Hieronymus is my favorite seafood restaurant, and actually a favorite restaurant. The servers are always helpful, friendly, knowledgable and kind. The food is excellent and well prepared and top quality. What is NOT to LOVE???? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to ALL the servers, chefs, cooks, cashiers, EVERYONE who works to make a dinner so wonderful and special! Thank you!
Food was fresh. Seafood was not overcooked. Would definitely recommend this restaurant
Great food. Terrible service. Made a reservation and was told when we got there it would still be a 45 min wait as they were short staffed. Then why even take reservations! Only saw our waitress twice. Doubt we will come back.
Our server was amazing and the peel and eat shrimp were great!! The steak was lacking in flavor though, which was very unfortunate.
