The food was delicious! But the service was terribly slow! The only item we quickly got served was water. After that, we hardly saw our waitress & our food was slow to be served. The food was not piping hot. The restaurant was not busy. Although the food was delicious, there wasn’t much of it. Expensive for the portions.

Better service is needed. Our reservation was at 12:00. Though we waiting for 20 minutes to be seated. There was only 1 waitress servicing the 2 tables (ours included) inside and maybe 2 outside. Kinda delayed in any drink refills. And waiting for a good 30 minutes to get out check. We went there to check out the food for the venue attached to the restaurant. Needless to say we are gonna go with option 1 when it comes down to a venue and food.

Were senior citizens so we arrived before dinner rush and before louder younger crowd so noise level was perfect. Not rushed and could hear each other. Happy hour margarita was tasty and refreshing, perhaps a little short because I had on the rocks and there was a lot of ice. Friend enjoyed her vodka martini. We all had different taco plates. All good. I typically judge a Mexican cuisine place by its rice and this one was fluffy and tasty. I have been here before and will continue to be a go-to Fullerton food spot.

Cafe Hildago (previous version) was much better with truly Spanish items on the menu. When your entree arrives with more than the plate covered by rice and beans, you know you are in the wrong place.

Service was subpar. It seemed very unorganized. We waited a long time to get our drinks and food. The food was ok. Not really memorable.

I loved the courtyard dining but was disappointed that there weren’t any heaters.

The new menu is absolutely amazing. I’ve been here a few times and can never say enough great things about it. The bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable. Dustin was voted Bartender of the year and it shows in their cocktail program.

The restaurant has that Santa Barbara feel to it. The patio dinning area is remnant of being on a vacation is some Spanish town. The appetizers I had was the bacon wrapped shrimp a must have. I ordered the sangria and well can you say the south of Spain!! The main course was the Carne asada plate and let me say the Carne asada was prepared to order fantastico!! The service was excellent! Very attentive to our needs, pleasant and polite. We will be regulars no doubt

It’s a cozy little restaurant in downtown Fullerton so it had pretty much the same charm as most of the restaurants there. We were the only ones in the place when we first got there and we were seated outside on a very nice patio. It was nice and relaxing. The food was good, not exactly your typical Mexican food so I thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was good although it wasn’t busy so I don’t know how it would have been if the restaurant was crowded. There were a few more customers by the time we left. The only complaint was that the food was not very hot. My husband like his food really hot and even though he sent his food back once to be heated, it still wasn’t hot enough. I would recommend this restaurant and will probably be back.

Great service, quality food. Would be nice to have more options for a less spicy sauce substitution for those of us who can’t tolerate spicy food. Even the mild sauce had plenty of spice. Nice environment. Very quiet on a weeknight.

Menu has changed since new ownership. The quality of the food was not up to the standards it use to be. They use to offer higher end unique items. No longer...

Thank you for joining us. We have vastly improved the quality of the ingredients used. No longer dyed or frozen fish. All our ingredients are extremely fresh and made from scratch. We offer more unique items such as octopus and more region specific items than before. We are truly sorry you didn't enjoy the new menu and that it wasn't to your liking. Thank you so much for joining us and giving us a shot. I'm thrilled to see that you did enjoyed the service

Saw on line they had paella. At the resturant they told us they had not had it for 2 years. Menu very limited. Not enough choices. Food mediocre at best. Won't go back.

When you see 'Hidalgo' you might think Spain. even a bit more continental then just Spanish cuisine. This is Mexican, right down to the beans and rice. The menu is slimmer than before but is it better? The barbacoa was dry and chewy with no flavor. The chicken tinga, eh. Overpriced for what you get. I'll go and try something different to see if it's any better, but I'm not hoping for much.

Service and cocktails were great but food was slow to come out and the dish I ordered was over cooked. I had the Al Pastor and the pork loin was on the dry side. The fajitas were good though, but the prices in general were a little on the high side and I wouldn’t call it authentic Mexican food.

Under new ownership Hidalgo’s has really become something special. The salsa and guacamole are made fresh daily. They use local ingredients which i always appreciate. I had the Salmon, my husband had the tacos. Amazing. And the cocktails were incredible! We’ll be back for sure!

First time diner at restaurant. Our server was terrific, and although the place has a nice ambiance, the quality of the prepared dishes was average at best. Hopefully new ownership will mean a better future for this establishment.

I was a fan of the “old” Hidalgo’s, but in the past two weeks, my two visits were not great. Two weeks ago, our server wasn’t attentive to refills and we noticed the menu prices were a lot higher (no lunch menu). It took awhile to get our food, too. Last week we had a good server, but the wait was really long.

There was a party going on and sooooo loud that me and my guest, who travelled hours to meet me there, couldn’t even hear ourselves across the table. Other than that experience for an hour, we did enjoy the food. Had we known there would be a large party, we wouldn’t have eaten there.

Went for a celebration. The menu online, which is why I choose to eat there did not match the menu at location. What is offered is mediocre Mexican-American fare; and Shredded lettuce and carrots on a bread plate does not a side salad make. My dinner companion ordered the steak salad, it arrived very dry. Food arrived spotty to the table and presentations were very sloppy. I understand that the restaurant was recently acquired by new owners but there is a lot of work that needs to be done to make it worth a return. Cocktails however were well crafted.

I have been coming to Cafe Hidalgo for many years now. It is a popular Fullerton restaurant with a great history of serving the community it is part. The Sangria is a special recipe from Spain and I always order some when I am there. Great tasting, beautifully presented food with a number of menu items you will not find anywhere else. The building also has interesting shops to browse after your fine meal.

Disappointed in the food. There were 8 of us, with only 2 (salmon entree) who were happy with the taste. I felt the food was underseasoned or lacking flavor after tasting 3 entrees. Very over priced too. Service was good, location very nice with outdoor seating if desired.
