Friends night out
I don't like to write lengthy reviews so I'll keep this short. Hibiscus is AMAZING! Food is fresh, tasty and authentic. The ambiance is SO much better than their old location and who doesn't love listening to reggae while they eat delicious Caribbean food?! Also, it's BYOB, an added bonus. A new favorite of ours!
At the previous location I would recommend a friend, but this new location was not to my liking. The place was completely empty and they tried to sit my party of 5 in a corner up against a wall by a sink area. After`inquiring about someone to open our wine on 2 or 3 occasions, the hostess brought us the wine opener to do ourselves. We asked again where in Winston? He finally came like 45 minutes after we we were seated. We were never shown the specials menu until we inquired about the Chilean sea bass. We asked if the guava sauce can be put on the salmon and was told no. We asked where was the owner/mgr. Were told she was not available and no one was available to speak with. The hostess came back to the table and said it was OK to put the guava sauce on Salmon because she spoke w/ the mgr. We finally got our festivals & only 2 were hot, 3 were cold. We asked for replacements and when the waiter came back he only gave us 2 more and tried to argue that we only gave him 2 back and not 3. SMH At this point, we decided to leave. In addition the whole time we were there, there were surrounding tables where previous guest had left, but the tables were still dirty with plates and unfinished food. As a result bugs were flying around.
Very disappointed as this is a place my family and I like to frequent when I visit Morristown.
Not fancy; byob; pleasant but would probably not go back
Great Caribbean food. I had the whole Red Snapper
Our newly discovered favorite place!! We love Hibiscus Island - an oasis in Morristown! Fabulous curry dishes, jerk chicken! The BEST beans and rice, vegetables are exquisite, plantains downright yummy!! Save room for the Rum Bread Pudding!!! Everyone is family here! Reggae in Saturday evening ♥️🎶
First time at their new location. We loved it! It's a nice, festive space. The food was as good as we remembered. We enjoyed the fish fritters, calamari, greek salad, pasta in vodka sauce, jerk chicken and oxtails. My only criticism would be that the oxtail portion is very small. Definitely leaves you wanting more. Save room for dessert. The carrot cake is my favorite. Live music rounds out the experience (we went on a Saturday evening).
I've been to Hibiscus when it was in the hotel but this was my first time in the new location. Food and service was terrific. We brought friends who had never been and they loved it too. Dillion, our waiter, was terrific and brought a great sense of humor to the evening.
Great Jamaican feel and there were many options, live music as well on a Saturday night. More people should give this place a try- My husband had the jerk chicken, came with nice veggie mix, rice/beans- I had the vegetarian "fruit" with veggies- that was a really nice surprise.
Love the oxtails & rice, the music is lovely and the people are nice. Nana kept me company and interest me in a small conversation while I waited to get seated. It’s BYOB for wine & there’s a wine shop across the street. Enjoyed it
Took my husband for Father's day dinner. He ordered the salmon and it was very good. My daughter and I ordered jerk chicken. I have had jerk chicken there before and it was good but on this day it was not so good. The worst part of my evening is that when I got home and looked at the jerk chicken I ordered to go it was obviously stale. My server, so sorry I forgot his name, was very nice. I was however disappointed in the quality of the jerk chicken and the overall portion size of our meals. A bit pricey for such small portions. I would go there again but next time I will examine my food if I am taking it out
Fabulous food and love their new location. The entertainment was also great.
The service is fabulous. Was not there on a weekend when they have music - next time. I really like the menu as it is a blend of standard fare (steak, salmon, etc) that looked great and Island dishes that were spectacular.
The Jamaican Jerk chicken had decent flavor though was hardly spicy. Rice & beans side dish was also flavorful. The vegetables and plantains were cold and it seemed like they may have been taken from the warming tray at the front of the restaurant. There's no liquor license, so BYO if you want it. The servers were friendly.
Excellent food but small portions. My oxtails were gone in seconds. A nice place with a relaxed vibe. They moved from the hotel and are now next to the 7-11 in the cluck u shopping plaza. Is hard to see depending on where youre coming from and some sites still say its in the best western, it is not anymore.
The food was outstanding. The service was as good as the food. Will definitely go again very soon.
We were in town for our daughter’s BB tournament and decided to give this restaurant a try. I am of Puerto Rican descent and my husband of Guyanese descent so we are accustomed to Caribbean food. The appetizers of the Hibiscus Salad and the Hibiscus Sampler which included Coconut Shrimp, Jerk Chicken, Skewered Grilled Shrimp and Sea Scallops were very tasty. The Sea Scallops came out with a creamy risotto-like rice that was amazing! I had the oxtail which was good but just slightly hot. I like my food piping temperature hot like fresh from the pot off the stove hot. My hubby had the curry shrimp, daughter had curry chicken and roti, friend had the brown stew chicken. All were tasty...for dessert we all split a slice of the Jamaican Bread Pudding which was good.
This was our third visit with other couples and we have been equally delight every time. We also have tried different dishes every time and have liked everything equally but if you are not into spicy hot dishes you might want to be careful ordering anything with the word "jerk" in it.
I can recommend the mix starter. Three of us feasted on the version for two and it was an adequate start to our main meals.
Our serve was a native Jamaican which was a nice addition to the high quality of the attention we received..
The food at Hibiscus is authentic Jamaican cuisine. I honestly can't get enough of there curry goat. Let's not forget the seafood run down. It makes me feel as if I were back in Negril with my wife Miriam.
People don't take my word alone, get there and taste for yourselves.
Amazing friendly staff.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AMAZING FOOD
Went there some time ago with 7 people. The room was fully lit and looked like an abandoned office with no decorations whatsoever.
Promised jazz (that wasn’t even a jazz) was in the other, main room.
Orange juice we asked for was an oj powder mixed with water. Have you heard of restaurant cheap enough to serve powdered OJ? Neither did I.
Food was a buffet with nothing exciting to choose from.
Service was painfully slow and inattentive. We had to keep piling up dirty plates on the side of a table just to make some room. No server cared for those plates until the end of our meal.
I felt embarrassed for bringing my family there.
Excellent food, very good variety and fun environment!
Very pleasant Jamaica-themed restaurant in the basement of a hotel in Morristown. Really charming service, and the food was quite good. The jerk chicken is juicy and has an authentic kick to it. Oxtail was deep and dark and lovely. On some nights there is live jazz.
The food was FANTASTIC! Don’t let the location in the Best Western keep you away from enjoying this incredible food. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. The owner stopped by our table - she is lovely. Quirky and fun ambience. Such a great experience - did I mention the jerk chicken and beans and rice?? I will be back!
food great as usual...was not told that we were gonna be out after an hour and a half....paid 40.00..did not even get to have desert..because we had to leave for other patrons to be seated.....but all in all ok..i wud visit again..tx
Awesome food. They had a function that night that requires staff attention, but it was worth the extra wait.
The staff are very nice and the food is delicious.
Meals are a bit pricey considering the servings.
One of best places to feel like your in Caribbean food and service great byob is a big plus
The food is delicious!! It’s in the basement of a Best Western, true, not particularly appealing; but do NOT let that deter you! It’s worth it! Go.
A little surprising gem of a restaurant located in the Best Western Hotel up South Street from the Mayo Art Center. (Not walking distance but easy access just a few minutes away with ample parking in hotel's parking lot and it's also right off of Rt. 287.) The dining room is simple in decoration but that is not anything to criticize. We were coming for the food! Hibiscus is a great place to go for moderately priced authentic Caribbean and traditional American fare before or after a show. Menu offerings are great - plenty of fish offerings and even vegan. Food is freshly prepared and quite flavorful. We ordered mainly Caribbean fare and were very happy with choices: braised oxtail (awesome!); Hibiscus sampler (yummy and spicy/sweet); crusted salmon and curried shrimp - all excellent with well prepared sides that weren't overcooked. Wait staff is very attentive. A lovely plus is live music for dining entertainment! (Not required, but don't forget to tip musician! He does a great job!) Since restaurant is small, would recommend making a reservation. We will definitely return to this place!
Hibiscus Restaurant is wonderful! Always a pleasant and delicious experience for any occasion.
Best dining room in the entire area. Lovely intimate room w/soft lighting creates the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a menu that caters nicely to all palates, accommodating staff, entertainment that permits good conversation while musicians playing. It's a treasure to discover and enjoy.
Sincerely, Sharon C
The service was fantastic. The chef is engaging and very easy on the eyes. Deadly combination.
This restaurant was a great find... easy to get to & centrally located, food was delicious & presented beautifully and the service was friendly & welcoming. Will definitely return!
Good food good music good service it was great overall my wife and I had a wonderful time. Planning to go back with my family
The greeter/waiter for our table could of been more welcoming..is as if she did not want to be there.other than that the food was excellent
Don't be turned off by the fact that this restaurant is in the basement of a Best Western -- it had some of the best food we've had in months, and a very reasonable price. Service was friendly and attentive without being annoying. There was live music on a Saturday night consisting of a steel drum player and even though we were seated right next to him (the place is pretty small anyway), the volume of the music was perfect -- not too loud at all. Consider getting the specialties of the house (braised chicken, oxtails) as both were just amazing.
Had a wonderful experience at Hibiscus. Food was delicious and staff was friendly. Will definitely go back!
Hibiscus is a gem.
The food and service is top notch.
My new go to spot. We'll be back!
This was a surprise Father's Day treat from my loving wife. The food was plentiful and delicious. I loved the clam, shrimp, and oyster bar. The Caribbean cuisine was super. So many choices!
The wait staff were so friendly and helpful. We even had a few laughs with the other customers.
The musicians hit all the right notes, with such a variety of songs.
It made for a very memorable Father's Day.
What a hidden gem! In the back of the Best Western is this fantastic restaurant. We loved the Caribbean cuisine, and in particular the jerk chicken, chicken roti, and the amazing fresh made Festival cakes. The live jazz band playing was a interesting compliment to the fantastic food! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
