HEW Parlor & Chophouse
Comprised of three show stopping elements, each identified with a slightly different rhythm. Discover our intimate parlor bar, showcasing an extensive whisky and Scotch collection inspired by Dunedin’s Scottish heritage. A lively lounge atmosphere is accentuated by water views.
Chophouse cuts and chef-driven seasonal preparations. Authentic and far from stuffy. This is the new neighborhood gathering spot.
Taking center stage is our chef’s dining bar affording front seat views of the hustle and bustle of a production kitchen. The interaction with our culinary team makes this the most sought after ticket.
An alfresco poolside option just adds to the allure.
Food was excellent - we had lamb, bison, and chicken, all perfectly prepared. Corn side dish is fantastic. Kelly our server was awesome!! One significant issue - it is WAY too loud in the dining room. We hear management is aware of this major noise issue, but has not fixed it despite numerous customer complaints - hope they will consider and act on such feedback soon.
Lovely ambiance, very interesting menu; creative! Our group had gourmet burgers, hangar steak, and scallops with pork belly and parsnip purée. Service very attentive. Will return!
Kitchen is exposed which gives it a cafeteria like vibe. Doesn’t feel upscale but the prices defiantly are. Lamb special was outstanding but $50 for the entree so be sure to ask the price before you commit. My wife is a vegetarian and asked them to create a veggie entree using whatever sides they could. It was a small helping of corn, tomatoes and some other things mixed together and they charged us for a chicken platter -$25. So, if you’re a vegetarian stick to the menu because they just won’t know what to do unless you’re specific. The drinks were yummy and our server was great. The roof top bar is a must. Overall great atmosphere, casual vibe with boujee prices, hipster-esque but not obnoxious. All kinds of people at the bar, dressed up, super casual. Pretty good beer selection too.
Great Hotel. Restaurant for dinner still looked like it was set up for breakfast. They should add table cloths and lower the lighting in the walls. Needed something to change the ambiance. Waitress was really good. My husband had the chicken which was fantastic. I had the hanger steak which was ok. Highly recommend the panacotta for desert.
After a drink on the rooftop deck, which opens onto the water, we went down to the restaurant. It is a very noisy space, but the food was outstanding as was the service. Will definitely return.
Fantastic! Our food was amazing and the roof top bar is a must see!
Excellent food and excellent service. The flavor of the foods and accompanying sauces was phenomenal. I recommend having an appetizer as the servings are fine dining size.
This was our first visit and we were treating some visitors from out of town for a birthday. the atmosphere was first class, the service was outstanding and the food was just delicious and we will definitely go back
When we arrived for our reservation at 7:30 we were seated in a dining room off the main dining area...the only table in that room for our entire meal. We joked that maybe we were being punished for some unknown transgression! The room was chilly that evening but eventually warmed up after the door to the main dining room was opened.
Our waiter was extremely k knowledgeable and after a short discussion we started with 2 bottles of wine. We ordered a short time later with only o e of our party opting for an appetizer. It was a crab soup and was very good. We asked about bread for the table and were told a "bread service" was available at an additional charge. We opted for the "bread service" and were rewarded with 4 - 1/2 slices of bread that had been grilled and were a bit charred...not very tasty. For entrees we had rack of lamb, the filet mignon, scallops with pork belly and the fish special. Sadly, none of the entrees were all that special. The rack of lamb was cooked perfectly but the sauce was extremely salty... same with the sauce for the filet! We brought this to the attention of the waiter and when he checked with the kitchen he returned to tell us the chef said the sauce was fine. Hmmm.... My scallops were seared perfectly but the pork belly seemed tough and didn't comment the texture of the scallops. My wife's fish special was good, cooked very nicely but again, someone was a bit heavy handed with the salt! We all had sides and the potatoes were very good and the brussel sprouts were the highlight of the meal!
Very disappointed in the food and overall atmosphere. I guess my expectations were too high. The filet of beef was mediocre in quality at best. The brussel sprouts were a charred mess and not to my liking. The beet salad was good as well as the grilled pineapple dessert. I will not be going back. It was my birthday and I really wanted something special
This was my second time at Hew. We were a party of 6 celebrating a birthday. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the daily fish special, Corvina, as did several at the table. It was perfectly prepared and came with fingerling potatoes and roasted kale. We had several bottles of wine, both red and white. Our server was exceptional. I think I just found my new favorite spot in Dunedin.
In the refurbished and lovely Fenway Hotel, we were expecting something a bit swankier. But, it was a lovely, open space and the food was excellent for brunch. Best part is the live jazz music in the lobby. Shrimp and grits were very good and Bloody Mary was excellent. Egg dishes a little overcooked. But, all around great place in Dunedin that's out of the mainstream. Rainy day, too. If it had been nice, we might have spent more time walking around the grounds.
After being seated we considered leaving as the noise level was over the top. Seemed like everyone was screaming in order to be heard. At that point we said this was one place that we would not return to. However, then the food came. Everything we ordered was fantastic. We will put up with the noise, the food is that good.
food was great, our server was even better but the atmosphere and layout was not what I expecting for the price of the food. The best way to put it is that Tommy Bahama meets I-Hop.
Our whole experience was amazing! Service was great! Food was delicious!
Great place with amazing food.
The space has real potential but the service was mediocre, the noise level was over the top and it is very confusing about where to enter to park. Overall, I won’t go back , despite the good food, until they figure out these issues. Also not handicap friendly.
Food was good. Service was good. Room is loud and one of our group has a hearing impairment so that was a challenge for him. Meal cost was in line with other hotel dining rooms but was higher than other restaurants in the town. Would go back again.
The food was amazing with the seared shrimp appetizer and scallops entree being a huge hit with all in our group! We were too late for the sunset from the rooftop bar but can tell its a prime seat for the event. Will definitely be back!
Service with server Jess was great. She was pleasant and knowledgeable.
Three of us dining had the steak fillets and corvina fish entrees. Salads were delicious! As others have said, we were surprised & disappointed there was no offer of ‘gratis’ starter bread. We think this decision should be revisited by Marriot. While the entrees were tasty they were really not remarkable considering the prices.
The restaurant is very large, very roomy in fact. Yet while being half full, the acoustics were very loud, very echo like. Think back to your school cafeteria.
We toured he rooftop bar and will probably return another evening for drinks and to watch the sunset. However, we probably won’t return to the restaurant.
The rooftop bar is where it is happening, but there appears to be a capacity level that is loosely monitored and the system to get to the bar is inadequate, to say the least. Once on rooftop the view is spectacular, but get their early if want a seat. PS- the drinks are expensive and weak.
As for the HEW Chophouse, it was very disappointing. Knowing the prices and thinking Chophouse, we expected more. The hostess was dressed in casual attire, the decor reminded me of a cafeteria with the seating style and plaid upholstery, wicker mismatched chairs and fake granite and wood tables. It did have some nice wood finishes, but they seemed to go all out on some things cheapen it up on others. The food was okay, but not what you expect for the prices. The most disappointing was the instant mashed potatoes!
Really enjoyed our dinner! Bryan was our server and he was, hands down, one of the best servers we have experienced! He was knowledgeable about the menu, the food preparation, and perfectly attentive to our dining group of 4.
I want to love the resteraunt more but the noise in the resteraunt was rather loud, to an almost unenjoyable level however we were siting next to a very large group of 12 or so. I am def going back and looking forward to enjoying the amazing delicacies offered; the beets were amazing, the shrimp and polenta was like nothing we have ever tried and the pineapple desert was delish beyond words! Way to go Dunedin in another stellar restaurant.
I was coerced into sitting at a high top table. I had a reservation and it wasn't crowded. I am short so that table was a bit uncomfortable.
My friend had the fish special which was very fishy tasting, I had a stake which was delicious but under cooked from what I asked. My brussel sprouts were delicious and my friend had a shrimp appetizer which was very good also.
The pistachio cake for dessert had a beautiful presentation but was like eating sawdust it was so dry. I said something and it was taken off my check.
Service was good and there was a nice ambience.
We had a lovely evening and wonderful food. The service was also friendly and efficient. I do have a suggestion for the restaurant; for the prices you charge you could include the two slices of baguette and butter instead of charging $4! That was quite a shock considering we spent more than $200 this evening. Also, it should come out WITH the salads. We had two different salads both were excellent, we had the scallops and the bison which all was delicious. The rioja reserva 2014 on your extended wine list was also magnificent. If you make changes keep that one! The finale of Illy espresso was the best coffee we’ve had in a restaurant in the area. We will be back.
I would return for another special occasion but this is not an everyday dinner restaurant. Too expensive for every day. Food was good, tasty but .... We had the tomahawk steak for two and it was a little overcooked. The vegetable we overdone but the wine was perfect. As far a decor it was modern American clean but a little cold and I would have preferred more romantic for my husband birthday.
ALL 6 OF US THOUGHT IT WAS ANOTHER GREAT ADDITION TO DUNEDIN. THE IDEA TO HAVE A ROOFTOP DRINK BEFORE OUR RESERVATION FOR DINNER IS A NICE WAY TO START THE EVENING.
THE DINNER WAS EXCELLENT, APPETIZERS AND DESSERT PERFECT. WE WERE ALL SURPRISED THAT YOU CHARGE $1.00 PER PERSON FOR BREAD. WE WERE WILLING TO PAY BUT THOUGHT IT WAS UNUSUAL, AND KIND OF NOT FITTING FOR SUCH A CLASSY RESTAURANT. ANYWAY, THAT WOULD NOT KEEP US FROM NOT RETURNING BUT FELT LIKE IT WAS A LITTLE OUT OF PLACE.
BEING OUR FIRST TIME THERE, WE THOUGHT THE IDEA OF CARRYING THROUGH WITH "THE HIGHLANDER"THEME WAS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE DUNEDIN LOCATION.
WE WILL RETURN AND WILL EXPRESS TO OUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE WE HAD.
THANKS DEANE HORNE
Although the food and service was excellent, the ambiance lacked in impressiveness. We did go to the rooftop bar after our meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful view.
I will never return to this restaurant for dinner. My food was good, but such a small piece of swordfish and basically only garnish with a very small piece of fish for $30.00. I lefi hungry. Everything was A La Carte. Disappointing that there was no salad or decent side vegetable with this "MEAL".
We asked for bread and were told we would be charged, which we were charged for.... $1.00 a slice, well a half a slice of burnt sourdough bread.$4.00 for 4 half pieces of terrible bread with no refill of the bread.
We will return to the roof top bar for drinks, but never to the restaurant.
The hotel and rooftop bar were great. The restaurant feels like you are in a buffet restaurant. Open kitchen, very loud, little decor, and very bright lighting for evening. We anticipated an elegant evening, it was disappointing. There were other patrons expecting the same and I saw people walk out after being shown to their table. Many people were dressed for fine dining but I guess we could have worn our workout clothes (that happened). I understand casual dress in Florida but you don't see this at high end Chophouse/Steakhouse restaurants in the area (which is what I expected). The food was good not outstanding and overpriced for the quality, slow service, and ambiance. For example - Our first drinks arrived after our salad (we didn't order them at the same time either).
This place has real potential! Even though most of the selected craft "drinks" on their menu were not available, the other options were okay. Drink prices are expensive. We went to sit at the rooftop bar for sunset, and it was already packed 30 minutes prior (which is understandable). We ended up sitting out front of the lobby on the couch and were just as pleased. It was pretty busy, due to sunset hour. I think there were a couple events going on that night also. Our reservation wasn't until later, but sat outside for drinks prior. We did end up at the rooftop bar after sunset and it was a very beautiful view. Rooftop area had couch seating as well as a large bar and tables. Drinks were also consistent with the lobby bar and not having a variety of "drinks" available.
After drinks, we headed over to HEW for our dinner. The menu options are sparse but interesting. We got to our table and waited a while to be greeted by our server and when he did he was very short with us. We waited a while to be able put in our appetizer order. He seemed as if he didn't want to be at work that night. When we did receive our appetizers they were both delicious (Seared Shrimp and Crispy Pork Belly). Finally, we all ordered our meals and there were NO complaints on the taste of all 4 dinners. The Hangar Steak was very good. Although the prices of the meals were a little steep for the amount of food that you got, we would probably go back to taste other options or just to hang out on the rooftop to watch the sunset. We were there for a birthday celebration.
Only complaint was the server who was uninterested on being there and taking care of us...
our first time and we were really impressed with everything. courteous staff. we will for sure return
Great redo of old Florida...food and drinks were memorable...with the addition of some sound absorbing materials in commmon areas it would be perfect...
Your dinner menu is wonderful. We had a wonderful waitress and we love your wine selections .
It's hard to get a reservation but yet every time I stop in I'm told 'no available seating' at this time but yet multiple tables are empty. The food was very good as well as the service. It's nice to have a before dinner cocktail and watch the sunset from the rooftop bar and then head down to dinner. I will definitely good back.
Brand new opening at the renovated Fenway Hotel. Still getting settled into the groove, but overall good food and service in an absolutely lovely setting.
We are local residents and first time visitors to the Hew in Jan 2019. Wonderfully restored hotel with good bar scene; jazz duo playing but it wasn't too loud. The rooftop bar seems amazing but was not open during our visit, due to inclement weather. Food at the Hew was good and so was the service. We ordered the tomahawk for two; one in our party had the scallops and one the pork, and all were good. I wouldn't say the food is as good as some of the steakhouses in Tampa, but this is a solid local option with a good vibe/scene. They charge $4 for a bread basket, something that's free at nearly every steak place I've ever been to. All the diners in our party thought that was tacky. The bread was nothing special and there was one very small piece per person. It's certainly not a big deal cost-wise but that was what everyone was commenting about when we got the check, so it left an impression, and not a great one. But I'm sure we'll be back!
Very pretty restaurant. Chicken was great. Brussels sprouts are the best we’ve had anywhere.
We sat at the bar first and had a phenomenal cocktail made by one of the bartenders. She was friendly and upbeat. Then we had another gal and she made a totally different tasting drink than the one we had before, and her attitude was less than pleasant. She only filled our glasses halfway, when the cocktail should have gone to the top. In the restaurant, the food was excellent. The lighting in the restaurant was a little too bright. It felt like our server was rushing us. She never went over the menu or made suggestions. We had to ask. She wasn't super friendly either. She never thanked us for dining there, or provided us with a parting remark. She came by and picked up the signed credit card receipts, without saying a word. I think the service needs to be improved upon. We will go back sometime, but we'll give it a little time to improve.
My group was really looking forward to enjoying a great meal and having this be our new 'go to' retaurant for special occasions. The steak dinner was excellent. The scallops were so salty they were inedible and the bison, while reviews said is so tender, was so very tough that it was awful. We mentioned, more than once, we were celebrating a birthday with no acknowledgement. Also there was a 'bait and switch' where the mac and cheese was a side included with the steak diner while not included with seafood and when patrons were discussing sharing the appetizers the server should have verbalized that the seafood entree does not include a side..this omission added $10.00 to a large bill of $120 for 1 excellent meal and 2 bad meals. We should have dined downstairs at bar for happy hour menu!!
We went to HEW for my wife’s birthday. Was concerned because I had read some unfavorable reviews on TripAdvisor. But our experience was great. The service was prompt, professional and very friendly. The food was delicious. The decor was somewhat boring and it’s quite expensive. But our overall experience was very good. Our server, Julia, was outstanding.
