Everything was great but I just wished there was a better ambiance. It was really loud. This is a beautiful hotel, I hope they can make it a little more quaint.
The food was good and the service was also good. The atmosphere was modern and not very warm and inviting. I would try it agin as there were some interesting. Choices on the menu.
The HEW was a wonderful experience. The food was delectable and the ambiance was perfect for a quiet date night.
I thought the food was excellent but the ambiance not so great. I expected the restaurant to be a little nicer. But it is loud; the lighting was bright, not dim like you would expect for dinner; and it seems more like a lunch place. But my filet was delicious and I highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. Lovely facility. Bar very cool.
This is an outstanding restaurant. Enjoy the sunset view from the rooftop bar and then go to the restaurant to enjoy top quality food and service. We had the lamb and it was absolutely outstanding.
The Tomahawk Beef Chop for two is phenomenal as were the Brussels sprouts... it is a great place for special occasions.
We were looking for a nice special dinner for two, and were very disappointed. Will not go back. Entry up fairly steep front stairs which are difficult for me, impossible for handicapped. If there is an easier entry we were not directed to it. Extremely noisy so we could not hear ourselves talk (there are nothing but reflective surfaces - glass, floors, walls -- so sounds just bounce around - wretched.) Our server would be at home in Applebee's -- clean, but sloppily dressed, called me "dear"!!! and chatted excessively, complete with many personal details. We did not come to this expensive restaurant in order to form friendships with the wait staff. I had the hangar steak, which was tasty, but served on a cold plate, requested "medium" but it was bloody. The brocolini was tough (had to cut it with my steak knife) with a peculiar sauce which fought with the steak presentation. The dessert was cake - forget the name - which was dry, again with a most odd presentation. Little pomegranate pips burst in your mouth very bitter, not complementary to any other flavors, although the cream had a good flavor alone. Everything was very clean, although it was unpleasant to sit near the area where the dishes are kept after the tables are cleared. The whole experience felt pretentious and gauche, greatly overpriced for what it was. We did not try any wines or cocktails, so cannot comment. The initial greeters were very pleasant and appropriately friendly and efficient.
Our first time trying out the rooftop bar and restaurant. For a new restaurant they are doing a nice job. The food was quite delicious - could have been delivered hotter. Service was very good. The dining room feels a little casual for the price and style of food. However, very comfortable.
The place is gorgeous and all the food was delicious. The problem was that after we were done eating we waited a half hour for the waitress to remove the dirty dishes. By then it was too late for desert and coffee. The rest of the experience was great so we will be back😊
Food was delicious and service impecable. I definitely will go again. I also want to check out the sunset from the nice rooftop bar.
Greeter was very nice and friendly
Service slow to begin with. Sat for 20 minutes before service was offered.
Restaurant not busy.
Waitress very friendly.
Had a cafeteria feel and atmosphere was a little cold. Lighting way too bright.
Coffee barely warm
All in all not a great first visit there but will go back and try the rooftop bar.
Still too new. The service was rough, forgotten drinks, food and coffee orders. Food was overall delicious except for the steak preparation. Three filets all ordered medium. One came out medium rare, one medium and one medium well. At $35 a steak this is absolutely unacceptable. It took so long to get the food and we already had forgotten orders, we didnt want to send it back. We were ready to move on. The ambiance was non existent in the dining room. It was reminiscent of a cheap hotel, not a Marriott Autograph Collection hotel. They are very new, now is the time to fine tune and up the level of service. I would go back in 2 months or so and try again. The roof top bar bar was great. Awesome drinks and view.
The HEW Parlor & Chophouse is a lovely addition to the Dunedin scene. The signature cocktails go down easy and entrees are a feast for both eyes and palate. Weekend brunch was a delight. Service is exemplary, too.
The food was fantastic. The beef tender, the salad delicious, the veggies cooked just right.
The service was befitting a middle priced establishment like Chili’s or Applebee’s. Not the kind of service you expect in a first class restaurant.
The hostess were sweet but once again not fitting for this type of restaurant
The noise level in the dining room
Was awful. Put up
Something to absorb the noises .
Seems like it just opened and given that staff needs more training from the restaurant, front desk to roof top bar.
Excellent food and service! Lobster agnolotti sensational just wish the portion was larger.
Very disappointed, the staff were wonderful particularly the Valet, but for a historic hotel it has absolutely no ambience. Other than vegetables the menu had no vegetarian options- didn’t even have a vegetarian soup. The salad was good, but way too much dressing- it should be served separately.
Fish and chips were inedible. Shrimp and grits were over priced. Three shrimp for $13 is a bit much. Wait staff was friendly. Management didn’t care to come to the table and apologize for the inedible Fish and Chips.
I expected more from a Marriott Autograph property. Only 4 tables were occipied when we were there for brunch and the room was so loud that two old friends who were hoping to catch up could barely hear each other. Food was expensive and tepid, few "brunchie" choices, and service was slow. Might have potential, but clearly not ready for primetime.
My wife and friends loved Hew Parlor & Chophouse. The food quality is absolutely awesome, and the wait staff is friendly and attentive.
We will most definitely dine here on a regular basis! The rooftop bar is awesome also!
We went for Thanksgiving and enjoyed our dinner. The ambience is nice casual, comfortable setting. Our meals were delicious, turkey was juicy, sides of stuffing, cranberry, mashed potatoes were tasty. There is a decent selection of wines to fit most price points. Overall we enjoyed our meals, waitress Jessica was friendly and we look forward to going back to try other items on the menu.
We love the ‘new’ Fenway and the rooftop bar is awesome. The Thanksgiving dinner was good, but not really as spectacular as the price...I think the turkey dinner with all the sides and dessert was $70 per person. Everything was good but not very exciting except for the honey and harissa carrots. It’s early days so we’ll try dinner there again and see how it is after a few more months.
Thanksgiving meal was delicious, however, the desserts were not of equal quality and spoiled the overall experience. I hope you are able to lessen the noise level in the dining room. It was more like one would encounter in a bar. The service was attentive and outstanding!
My wife and I were interested in trying out the new Fenway Hotel restaurant after it had been closed for many years. As former practitioners of Tai Chi, we had been afforded the opportunity to tour and review the building during its previous run-down state after the International Tai Chi organization had purchased it a few years ago. Therefore, we decided to combine a Thanksgiving Day dinner with recognition of our November wedding anniversary. Having previously visited restaurants for holiday meals in other areas and enjoying a less than satisfying experience, we were slightly dubious about this event, but our concerns were unwarranted. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent, and the ambiance quite satisfactory. Other's reviews may have indicated a noisy main dining area. We did not have that experience since after an effusive, warm greeting by the hostess, Laura, we were seated in one of the side dining facilities, which was quiet and delightful. Julia, our server, was very attentive to all of our needs and she even brought others to assist when our meal was served. The meal was turkey breast with all the trimmings, accompanied by a selection of desserts. Accordingly it was a non-standard menu. But the quality of our meal far surpassed any holiday meal we had ever experienced at any restaurant and most likely represents the standard menu. We heartily recommend this establishment for its food quality and service.
The Outside Bar was Great . The Chop House was very disappointing very loud like a cafeteria. It was only 1/3 full but it took a long time for apps . The food was good it would have been better if it wasn’t seasoned with a salt based seasoning way too much . The staff were not very welcoming and seemed to be put off when we mentioned the food was below our expectations
Fantastic flavors - the food was superb- the wine list was wonderful - waitress is new at serving and struggled to open the wine bottle for a good five minutes, after trying to find the manager to open the cabinet where the wine was kept. Then she spilled the wine on every attempt to pour it into a glass but everything else related to serving was spot on. Water glasses were filled frequently which is important to us. We are sure that once the rhythm and experience is established with this new restaurant it will be hard to get a reservation!
Love HEW, and am so delighted Dunedin now has the Fenway!
It is unfortunately way too noisy. Very hard to carry on a conversation. It has potential, but they need to do something about the noise and it also needs some warmth. The dinning room is a little to bright and cafeteria like.
We had a fantastic dinner this past weekend! It was our first time dining at HEW, and we will definitely be back. Food was amazing, service was fantastic and we loved the atmosphere!
Food was very good, and cooked to perfection. Service was good. Take the time to go upstairs to the bar area for the view, and great cocktails.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The steaks were tasty and prepared perfectly. Loved the salad. Comfortable and relaxing atmosphere for dinner or a drink overlooking the pool. Can't wait to dine here again. What a wonderful addition to Dunedin's dining scene!
It was our 1 year anniversary and it was amazing! Thank you for everything!
The noise level was high which made it difficult to carry on a conversation with my hubby sitting right across the table from me
Great food, the birthday girl had the shrimp and grits, and I had the toast with avocado spread, onions, tomato , goat cheese and a soft boiled egg. We returned at 3 for drinks on the rooftop. We will return.
Everything our group of six ordered was delicious. From hanger steak to local red snapper, roasted brussel sprouts, and salads to roasted pineapple and sorbet dessert. Yum! A touch of class on the Dunedin waterfront
Food was excellent. Staff knowledgeable. Wine was pricey.
the upstairs bar had a pretty view. they told me they ran out of what i ordered. so we left and did not have a drink. but in the elevator i met the manager and he was going to get another bottle from the lobby bar. wished the bartender would have said that instead of just "we ran out". restaurant looks like a cafeteria but prices look like a high end 5* restaurant. just didn't fit. and you better like meat cause there isn't much else to order. my husband had the hangar steak. it was good... brussels were burnt... and nothing was over the top fabulous.... sorry....
It took 10 minutes for the host to make a showing! The host should always be there to great the guests. I had a 7:00 reservation, got there 5 mins early and no one addressed us until 7:05. We were seated and we didn't see a server until 7:20. The server was attentive thereafter. The food was good and we thank you for the desert for our anniversary we were celebrating!
Perhaps this is part of the learning curve and we will try again before making full judgement!
We dined at Hew Nov 11, less than a month after it opened I believe.
Upon first sight, ambiance is completely lacking. There is a combination of faux white marble tables and dark faux wood. With the chairs, it looked like patio furniture. The table itself only had water glass and utensils, no tablecloth, flowers, or candles. I can see that for breakfast and lunch, but when I am paying $45 for my entree only, I expected more. Service seemed hit or miss. Ours was inexperienced and a miss. Never introduced herself, water glass empty over 10 minutes, brought the wrong wine, and charged me for both. At least I did notice and manager corrected it.
It is quite loud as there as nothing to absorb sound, so not good for a romantic evening.
I must say the food was very tasty. We had the pork belly and steak tartare appetizers. The steak tartare did not look appealing as it was small cut up pieces of steak, but was tender. For entrees, you do get choice of 1 side. No salad included. We had the wild boar chop and rack of lamb, with mac n cheese and brussel sprouts as sides. They were all very good.
They are off to a decent start, but lots of room for improvement if they want to be a fine dining chop house.
