After years of enjoying Herringbone I won’t go to this place again. They seat you in the street or parking lot and they did not make an effort to make it look nice and charming, it feels like you are dining at a state fair. Bare asphalt, not even astroturf. No canopy. The Aguachile ceviche and ahi poke tacos are really unimaginative and bland; the lobster roll is just a bun with lobster on top, I was expecting something totally different. The hamburgers and fries were ok. The margaritas and martini were barely drinkable. The server never asked how the food or drinks were and he was not engaging at all.

We decided to go somewhere else for desert for obvious reasons. This was a total disappointment and needless to say that we will never comeback to this place again.

We use to like this place when you could dine inside, I will blame management for the lack of imagination to replicate the inside to the outside.

Seemed understaffed. Food was good and drinks were even better. Little cold out, would've like one more heat lamp. 😂 Would probably come back for the food/drinks. Definitely pricey though $$$. Service wasn't bad they just need more servers.

I believe this was likely due to covid and the stresses of outdoor only dining but our food was pretty bad. Never had a bad meal here until the other day. Food was burned, bland and didn’t arrive hot (when it should’ve been). Definitely giving them another try based off other good experiences. Just bummed to spend $150 on brunch and leave hungry.

We arrived on time for our reservation . Website only allows 5 minute grace period if you arrive late. We were given water but no utensils or napkins. Ordered coffee and it arrived after 10 minutes.still no utensils or napkins. Coffee was cold. Sent it back but ordered our food. Finally asked host for utensils and napkins. Coffee and food arrived 45 minutes after we sat down. Food was tasty but not worth the wait.

Asked for a romantic table and was seated at the table away from everyone, had no heater on a cold night, and nearest the parking lot. Had to ask to be reseated, which we finally were, but then took 10 min for server to come take our order. Very disappointing when you are paying such prices.

Went for the $1 oysters but there’s a reason it’s $1. Happy Hour cocktails are pretty light, food portions are small, so not worth it.

Food was undercooked. Service was bad - asked for water about 6x, forgot one meal, forgot 3 drink orders, etc. They wouldn’t move the heat lamps towards any specific table even when there were only a few tables left. Just a weird, weird dinner.

Set up outside was nice. Food was way overpriced for what you got. Portions were small and the food was just okay. When we got ready to order (after getting drinks and appetizers), we were informed that they were out of their famous "fish and chips." It would have been nice to know that sitting down, as that was the one specific item I wanted to try there. It wasn't necessarily bad; but wasn't good either. I have spent less and gotten far more, and better quality elsewhere.

We've enjoyed Herringbone in the past and this was our first time back since Covid. We'd received an email announcing the reopening and gladly booked a table which was then cancelled a couple days later as the restaurant had to temporarily close thru Presidents' Day week only days after it reopened? We re-booked a couple weeks later. Unfortunately, the clam starter was already sold out at 5.45p. The food prep seemed overly long (an hour for starters?) and one of our starters ended up at another table. Thoughtfully, we were given the poke tacos while we waited for the octopus to be remade thankfully only seemed to take a few minutes? We ordered the burger and 3x salmon entrees. The burger was cooked rare instead of medium and the salmon was very bland. Rather than making a fuss, we decided it best to simply finish the meal. We know there have been many hurdles since Covid and we hope Herringbone will once again get back to the service and quality of pre-Covid.

Loved the experience but all the food was heavy on the salt. We liked the Waikiki location a lot and they have the same menu, so we were hoping it would taste the same. Otherwise it was a very romantic experience. We also felt safe eating outdoors socially distanced.

I used to love this place. They used to have great food. I wouldn't recommend going here until COVID is done because the menu is so small and their food portion got smaller. I remember love coming here and leaving here full. We ate dinner for my birthday and I felt like I was starving once we finished dinner. The menu really didn't have anything worth the prices but we stayed anyway. Maybe once COVID is over we would come back but for our bill I would have rather went to Island prime if I was going to spend the money.

We chose to support a local business by dining at Herringbone during the last weekend before our current shutdown. So sad to see our restaurants required to unnecessarily shut down the beautiful outdoor dining spaces they've created in San Diego. We know how hard they have been working to make dining safe and enjoyable for all of us.

As always, Herringbone was a delightful experience for the ambiance and excellent food.

Thank you!

Perfect birthday meal while visiting La Jolla! Buffalo octopus appetizer was unique but well cooked (not chewy!), and the salmon & sea bass entrees were absolutely delicious. My husband loved the Smoked Old Fashioned & as a lover of all things tequila, the 'That's One Hot Cucumber' cocktail was the perfect blend of spice and refreshment. Their outdoor dining space was perfectly spaced out and we were well taken care of by the front of house staff. Happy to support them any time, but especially during the pandemic. Location was absolutely lovely and I'd love to return and experience the in house dining. Would highly recommend!

I wouldn’t bother coming here. My family had a terrible experience. We ordered a lobster roll and when the other entrees were brought to the table we were told they were out which is really weird. Usually you know if you don’t have a dish when orders are put in not when they are served. Then we ordered a shrimp cocktail and the same thing happened...out. Our reservation was at 6pm not end of the night.

Dinner was disappointing - I think this is a lunch place. The poor ambience was due to the Covid restrictions. Inside Herringbone it is lovely.
Fish and chips was fish and fries. The fish was good not excellent and the fries were pretty bad.

We were very disappointed in the fish and chips. We had there a few weeks ago and it was delicious, light batter and good fish, this time heavy batter with small pieces of fish. We also found the prices for alcohol very high.
Our server, Carter, was terrific.

It was our anniversary which they knew and the service was still really bad. I always give a break due to covid and all that comes with it in the service industry, which I’m a part of, but this was beyond being understaffed. Managers were sitting around doing nothing while the servers were running around like crazy with visibly upset guests. We spent over $400 for the two of us and weren’t even offered a free anything for our anniversary and/or for service being bad. The server even recognized that service was bad but still did nothing to make up for it. Will def not go back. It came recommended from someone I trust but it seemed like more than just an off night. Seemed more like poor teamwork and lazy managers. We still tipped our server 30% because of the times and it was less his fault as he had way too many tables. Beyond the poor service, the food was very fair.
