It is a very good restaurant. The ceviche was the highlight for me. I thought it was very good but I hesitate to give it five stars because I was not “wow”ed. 3 scallops for $42 seems a bit steep. I think they could give you a little bit more for the price. It is definitely worth trying. The atmosphere and service was beautiful and fun.
Everything was excellent but the music was very loud due to late evening DJ . Couldn’t hear the servers when they were taking orders. Had to repeat multiple times
Great experience. I went with my 3 year old daughter. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this restaurant for kids, but we went at 5 pm on a Wednesday and it wasn’t busy. The service staff was very friendly and accommodating to us. The food was excellent.
I wanted to love Herringbone. I really, really did. It's beautifully decorated, romantic, and the service was outstanding. That said, the music on Saturday night during out 8:30 PM reservation (from a DJ, for some reason?) was so loud that it was difficult to enjoy dinner. The highlights of the evening were the appetizers — some kind of sashimi special, carrots, and brussel sprouts — while the entrees were a little underwhelming. If it was priced lower, it'd be worth it, but it's a little expensive for the lackluster experience.
The wine choices were good. The oysters were excellent. The chicken was really very uninteresting and the accompanying greens were awful. My date had the seared ahi. It was ok but uninspired. The place has a very interesting interior. THE WORST WAS THE NOISE. The “music” spun by a DJ was bad and too loud. Maybe ok if you are 25. But the prices are not for 25 year olds. So I am confused. May go back for oysters on a Monday but will sit outside.
This is an excellent restaurant with incredible ambiance and decor. The food is delicious, the buffalo octopus was to die for. Highly recommend trying it.
We went early on a Sunday for brunch to celebrate our anniversary and absolutely loved this place. The ambiance was super cool and the food was amazing. I would definitely come here again!
It has been my favorite brunch while visiting San Diego. The Losbter Roll - as the masses say- was amaze! The beignets were fluffy and perfect. Strong mimosas, fresh coffee and upbeat friendly service. The ambience drips throughout. I would def. check it out and may try to go back before leaving.
Great food...great server.
Best whole ceviche! So scrumptious! Consider it! Delicious i loved everything about he ambiance and our waiter Christian was so welcoming and kind. Very knowledgeable of everything on menu and great advice on area.
Disappointing overall. We reserved at Herringbone with high expectations. The restaurant is beautiful and imaginatively done. Service was excellent. However, the food was overly complicated and each dish (other than the ceviche which was pretty good) failed to do right by it's main ingredient. We think the kitchen is trying too hard to be original. Also note that Herringbone is an expensive restaurant.
Food was delicious and service was great. Definitely coming back!!! Have already raved to friends about Herringbone
Great place. Delicious food. Great brunch special.
Scallops were very disappointing, they weren’t memorable and served with the smallest portion of crab imaginable. La Jolla has a great restaurant scene and this place missed the mark. Would only recommend the oysters.
One of our favorite restaurants, just wish they could turn down the ceiling fans in the dining area to avoid a blustery dining experience...
Excellent and unique restaurant.
This restaurant is beautiful! Great ambience and great live music. Wonderful food as well.
The atmospher is amazing, the food hasn't changed since they started and in all honestly most of their dish are not worth coming back for.
The wine list is on the expensive side however the cocktails are pretty darn good.
cool place to hang out in the bar, I would not consider it a foodie spot !
Service very slow and not attentive. Otherwise, intriguing atmosphere and interesting decor.
Excellent service accompanied by a picturesque table near the restaurant's famous olive trees. The food, atmosphere, and attention to detail all made for a memorable birthday outing.
It was fantastic. The food and service were outstanding!!!
Excellent menu choices. Lots of small plates to choose from as well as main dishes. Seafood fresh and excellent quality. Very attentive wait staff.
I’ve been many times and always excellent
We went for our 15th anniversary dinner. Great place, simplemente chingon!
The noise was over the top! We could not hear each other at all!
The food is good, but nothing to write home about. It’s overpriced for what you get. The look of the restaurant is unique and I liked that. Honestly, wouldn’t come back, I would rather go where the food is a bit tastier.
We so enjoy having brunch at Herringbone whenever we are in La Jolla. The brunch menu has something for everyone and the bottomless mimosas are truly bottomless. We’ve enjoyed every meal we’ve had here. See you again next time we’re in town!
My husband’s entree was ahi tuna—the serving size was pretty ridiculous—essentially four bites. Our friends’ branzino looked so ugly on the plate with zero adornment or consideration of plating appearance. My bucatini with prawns was good, but again serving was small. The worst was the “sundae”: it was a pile of chocolate ice cream with a hunk of hardened marshmallow on top and unidentifiable sickeningly sweet candy stuck in the sides. That is NOT a sundae, folks.
The meal was amazing. Great cocktails and Oyster selections were flavorful.
Excellent food. Very loud. Very expensive.
Ambiance and service were good. Food for the price was sub par. Halibut and scallops were both over seared portion size way too small. Ceviche tasted like a plate of cilantro.
Love eating here! Always receive great food and great service!
We were a party of 5 and from beginning to end it took just over 2.5 hrs! Service great at beginning but worsened as meal went on. Dessert took 30 minutes to arrive when I inquired after about 20 minutes, the reply was “well, we’re really busy but I’ll check”. Hardly a respectful answer...I’d expect that from a waiter at a Denny’s.
Food was tasty but very small portions so we didn’t feel it was worth the money.
May return down the road to try again but will probably look to other venues.
Great food, our server was great.
I highly recommend this place. The food is amazing! The service is great with friendly staffs. Nice ambience.
Best restaurant of our California holiday. Superb food and wonderful ambience. Loved it. Wish we could transport the concept to Ireland!
The food was great, the Brussels Sprouts were the best ones I’ve ever had and the atomosphere is really fun! The service was not good at all. Our waitress came to our table very few times and never checked back with us after someone else brought out the food. We had to flag down all of the other waiters to get anything. She came back once the bill came after about 30+ minutes.
Food is ok but overpriced; service is ok; it’s a touristy place
Awesome ambiance. A lot of energy and great lighting.
Food was cooked perfect. Service great. Will definitely go back next time I'm in town.
My boyfriend and I went there for our anniversary. I have been to many of the other Brian Malarky restaurants so I knew the food would be good. I loved the space and the wait staff and menu were amazing. Everyone made our experience very nice and I would love to go back again!
Food was exceedingly bland. Crab cake, Bronzino, and scallops all were drab and lacked flavor. Cool space but won’t be going back for dinner anytime soon
