The atmosphere is amazing, if anything just go for that. I had the scallops which were awesome but I would have liked to get 1-2 more for $42. I still say great date night experience.
Nothing more to add!
We used to love eating here as it is a great local restaurant. However, the prices have risen significantly over the last year plus and the portions are a bit undersized. So the value is definitely there anymore.
Everything was great but the food. Initially the steak was overcooked but they did take it back and remake the dish.
The seafood linguini has clams and mussels that were a bit too cold and fishy, they didn’t taste very fresh but they did take it off the bill!
Love the lobster roll and shrimp tacos! Great ambiance for brunch!
I had never been there before. It was a pleasant surprise. Food was great, ambiance was phenomenal and service was on point.
Will definitely come back.
Gorgeous ambience and interior, Friday night service at prime time was slow and we had to ask for water, so that we were acknowledged. Not sure oyster shucker was properly trained- lots of shell bits, one oyster was destroyed and others were incompletely separates from tendon. Buffalo octopus, whole fish sashimi were good, Crudo was meh. whole fried snapper has potential- they just need to do a little more with the sauce.
First visit, and was immediately awed by the interior decor within the unassuming structure. Given that, and the delicious seafood, I certainly recommend to anyone looking for a fine dining experience.
Incredibly small portions.
Ordered the scallops which were surprisingly small & there were only 3 of them.
Expected at least 5-6 on a bed of the black rice, not the 2 tablespoons that accompanied them.
Loud wedding party up front during the prime dinner hour overpowered the dining area.
We loved Herringbone, but have had trouble with open table for two weeks in a row. We had to cancel our reservation for 7 for Dec 29 and did cancel on the website. But then got an e-mail stating that we should have cancelled if we were not coming. It so disturbed us that we went to Herringbone and apologized for open table error. The we rescheduled the party for January 5 for 7 people. We had to change it to 10 people and did so with open table. Not trusting open table to get it right I went and checked and sure enough they still had us down for 7 not 10. This was inexcusable as the restaurant would have been had pressed to fit another three people in at the last minute on a Sunday. I really can't take the time to go to the restaurant to make sure open table got it right. Sorry, but you failed me twice in one week. Vickie Johnson (Truman)
Great food great service. The ambiance is so cool. We love this place. !!
good selection of fish.
Not sure why the skin was left on the fish and charred.
It would have tasted great without that.
The trees inside the building are very nice and well kept.
the staff are very attentive
All dishes were served to the wrong parties, our oysters were late and then the order was wrong the server fixed it. Thankfully the server comped two drinks but even still the server disappeared for 20 minutes.
We were all disappointed that they no longer had the BLTA sandwich on the menu, we had been looking forward to that. And having the brunch menu didn’t excite us as we came on a Friday for lunch
Appreciated the birthday dessert, was a nice touch.
Worst dining experience ever.
Don’t even want to go into details. Stay away at all costs.
Fish Cookery and seasoning levels were excellent. portion sizes throughout our meal were very good. cocktails were excellent and service was prompt. Barbaresco by the bottle and the two Syrahs BTG were very good and served at the proper temperature. Server was friendly, lots of smiles and energetic.
Several oysters could have been shucked cleaner and 2 were not servable at 3.50 per. I would pass on the oysters in the dining room and have them on dollar night in the lounge.
Arugula salad was simple but complex and again a very good portion. Vibe was energetic but the restaurant bordered on too cold.
Aquachile was bright and balanced, very well made. Pro restaurant for sure, go enjoy it!
Nicely decorated, kind staff, and affordable prices for brunch! We will return!
We came at your reservation time and checked in. Hostess forgot that we were waiting my husband had to ask for our table. was seated 15mins later. The restaurant had plenty of tables available. Service is lack luster. And the food was par. The music playing mix of hip hop and rap. Doesn’t match with the ambiance. Unfortunately I don’t think I would be back.
Bottomless mimosas were so fun and the food is yum.
Always an excellent experience.
Your host was extremely rude and marked me as a no show
The place is awesome but the food was a little cold. We tried the cookies for dessert and they were delicious
We have been a big fan of Herringbone. This most recent visit was not a good experience. It was Saturday night, and we thought it’d be a nice way to end Thanksgiving weekend. Once seated, we began talking about the menu, when we were interrupted by, “What kind of water would y’all like tonight?” Don’t get me wrong, we all know the value of staying hydrated, but let us finish our sentences!
When I asked him to avoid interrupting again, he looked as if I had gravely insulted him. That is service?
One other annoyance - we order “The Skiff” - a seafood sampler. It had 5 small crab claws, 5 oysters, 5 jumbo shrimp, and two half-lemons - BUT IT COST $60! Four dollars per item?! Very disappointing.
I’ve recommended Herringbone and its affiliated restaurants to many - I won’t make that mistake again.
Our table for 5 was located in the corner. Half our party had the view of the corner entry to the kitchen. Loveliest of venues and we sat in the corner.
The quality of the meal was very poor and the taste of both of our meals was bland. I paid over $100 for meals that I wouldn’t be happy purchasing for $10.
Lovely, courteous waiters and delicious food!
I think it is quite a bit over priced. so, if you dont mind about $$$, go for it.
My drink (old fashioned) was quite good. I split the buffalo octopus and although a fairly small portion, it was quite tasty. Unfortunately, the night peaked early. For my main dish, I ordered the bass. The waitress offered (prior to taking my order) that the fish portions were 6-7oz. However, it would be a stretch to call that 4 oz. And unfortunately, the rest of the plate was as under seasoned as the bass. I had high hopes for the place and did enjoy the ambiance. But the food is why I came and would consider returning, and that was a miss.
Ok food. Not a lot of value. Small portions, mediocre quality of food/cooking. Service was great
Fabulous happy hour. Got the Brussels, Fritto Misto and a few other apps and it was plenty. Always a must stop for me in LaJolla.
Beautiful setting, amazing food, and great service! Had a wonderful time.
Appetizers were awesome, waiter was helpful and friendly, took about 30 minutes to get a drink 41 dollar bass had no flavor.
Amazing food, drinks were okay, but overall it was a great experience
Amazing experience ....as always, the whole fish, the crab rice, the steak, the prosciutto & fig flat bread....and the milk and cookies
Oh, and the service was amazing!
The staff was a little overwhelmed- we had to keep asking for drinks and water. The food was good. Have been there many of times.
We had the pleasure to try this La Jolla location for Happy Hour. The service and food was equally good as the ones in Waikiki. We had the oysters on the Half shell and were very impressed on how the East Coast
Oysters (PEI salty) were as well served and fresh as the West Coasts ones (creamier and sweeter). Also, you must have the Fried Brussels sprouts, they are so tasty!
Love this place, great food, service and decor. Highly recommend.
We went for an anniversary dinner. Food was fabulous, waitress was friendly, but only after a long delay for the food to come (and someone elses food being put on our table) we flagged her down and were told that there "were new people in the kitchen" as the reason for the wait. Assuming the reason was true, a simple heads up to the situation would have reduced our disappointment with the experience.
