We had a wonderful dinner and was fortunate to have met the Executive Chef to thank her personally for an amazing meal! We will definitely go back again and again.
It was my second visit and it is an excellent place for seafood. I like the lively atmosphere. The price is somewhat on the high side.
Squash blossoms were excellent, with 5 in the order. Bronzino was superb. Pasta with lobster was a dud--tablespoon of ground lobster (?) meat placed on top of pasta. 1/2 price wine on Tuesday was a plus.
It was my wife's birthday and we wanted a place that was kid friendly and great dining for us.
Herringbone was able to fit our needs and we were very impressed with everything they had to offer. Great place to go!
Although the food was very good, we went for lunch not knowing there was only brunch offered. The menu on line is misleading for the weekends. The item we ordered was very good, but the service was not good. The waiter never came over to check on us, and I had to flag over a bus person to get our tea refilled. Even when the waiter came to give us the check, he still didn't ask how our meal was.
Herringbone was the perfect choice for a late Saturday morning brunch! Well worth the 20-minute drive from downtown SD. The restaurant’s indoor/outdoor vibe was so inviting (LOVED the natural lighting and rustic touches!) and the service—the service was OUTSTANDING! I mean, on a scale of 1-10, Herringbone gets a 12 just for its impeccable staff alone.
The menu options were varied enough to appeal to a number of palates and diets without being overwhelming. The wine list was sufficient and included a wide selection of sparkling, which is a plus for someone like myself who prefers the bubbly over whites and reds. Note: they DO offer bottomless mimosas or Rosé on weekends if that’s your thing. We opted for traditional bottle service on this visit, however.
The food was equally as satisfying: the beignets (for starters) came with this delectable espresso dip that was amazing enough to eat by itself; the stone crab and avocado toast was generously portioned and well-balanced while the over-easy egg added quite the “brunch-y” feel to the dish. I would order this again without hesitation! The salmon served alongside the eggs Benedict was noticeably fresh and perfectly complemented by the slightly citric hollandaise. It was probably one of the best executions of a salmon Benedict I’ve ever tried.
We had reservations but were seated immediately upon arrival, about 5 minutes before our actual reservation time. Honestly, I’m we sure could have walked in and got a table without issue as there didn’t seem to be a wait list, which for me is a huge plus because I’m generally not one to plan ahead. :)
All in all, Herringbone did not disappoint! I’m so glad we decided to venture outside our normal go-to spots—this place has certainly earned its rightful place in my foodie heart.
Can't use enough superlatives for herringbone. Desserts were wonderful and not over the top; seafood meals were excellent, especially black cod and scallops. Wine list was very good and the wait staff was very attentive and friendly without being intrusive. We ate at some very good higher end restaurants in la Jolla and this was the best.
Everything was as it should be when dining out!
The ambience was lovely and the food was delicious! What more can one ask for!
The food is excellent and it’s a cool looking place but the service wasn’t as good as it should have been for the price and they never asked me if I wanted another drink .
Great looking restaurant with plenty of style. We had a very attentive waiter that gave us solid service. Local Ceviche was terrific. Overall, a really nice experience.
We visited the restaurant for my stepdad's birthday. The restaurant seems to have some issue in the kitchen as we were told they ran out of smoked salmon and crab but were informed like 10 mins later that the crab and salmon magically appeared. Anyway, the manager comped us for the drinks and Beignet that my dad didn't get for his birthday as they "ran out". The manager apologized and told us this usually didn't happen but there was some issue in the kitchen. To make the matter worse, the band that they had playing on that day was the worst! I generally like the restaurant and come here often for Sunday brunch. It was a bit let down on past Sunday as it was for a special occasion.
This place is amazing for brunch! The food is fantastic and the ambiance is quintessential San Diego.
Excellent service, great dessert, interesting small plates.
The chili oil overpowers the tuna carpaccio, however. A bit much although the roasted faro with the dish was interesting twist.
While on vacation we came here for my birthday. The decor is so cute. Amazing waiter and food was good. Tables were a little close together but overall was a great experience.
Food was good (had it been served hot, would have been great) . Ambiance is fun.
Food and ambiance was overshadowed by poor service. Need to work on the front of the restaurant--1) Hostess did not realize our party of 2 was there and we waited 15 minutes for a table past reservation time. 2) Server was weak, forgot drinks. Served food lukewarm.
Expect more for the prices.
Awesome!!!! If anything drink a little pricey. Would recommend and go again
This is an absolutely amazing restaurant in La Jolla. They have the best scallops I have ever eateen that just melt in your mouth. You must try this restaurant. This was my second time going back within a month and I live in Orange County.
So delicious. Great service. Awesome music. Pricy but great portions. Attractive young crowd. Great for all ages though
It was amazing!! We will definitely return. We highly recommend
Disappointed in our server for the evening - my wife did not like the pork belly. Instead of asking for a different meal, or if it could be prepared differently, the meal was taken away and still left on our bill at the end. Won’t come back to this location, but will continue to go to Santa Monica location given overall better service.
Good food, not sure it was worth the price. Would go back!
Lobster roll lunch is a special treat. Nice selection of hand crafted drinks. Free parking adjacent to restaurant is another plus. Perfect lunch ambience. Chris was very helpful
as our server.
Great for Valentine's Day lunch with the BEST Hostess ever! Usually there are TWO hostesses,
(and I've never been impressed by any !!) but ONE was just right, especially this one!
Chris was our waiter and we ate from menu along with a bottle of wine. I had wierd requests (like straw for my water glass) and special bread for my sandwich and he cheerfully accommodated me. Don't think I was offered a dessert menu though but would have asked if I needed one. Our relaxing lunch ended with the gift of a long
stemmed RED rose! Voila for Valentine's Day! FREE parking lot is always appreciated!
Went for Valentine dinner. Lots wrong. $88.00 for their 4 course meal was a ripe off. Waiter was inattentive, 45 minutes between courses, pasta was in-eatable and I ended up not having a main course. Steak was undercooked and couldn’t be cooked more because they cut it into strips.
We were first seated right next to a bar cleanup area where dishes and bottles were clanking loudly. Then we were moved to a table where overhead music speakers played really loud music that was certainly not of the romantic sort. The manager was nice and discounted our dinner but the experience was awful.
Overall, worst Valentine’s Day dinner ever.
The pictures do not do this restaurant justice. It is absolutely beautiful! I will say that the chefs clearly have an affinity for hot sauce...two of the four courses my boyfriend had for Valentine's Day dinner tasted unmistakably of it... Nevertheless any issues with our food were forgiven thanks to the incredible ambiance of the place!
Waitress was amazing, food was just ok.
Overall the experience was so so. My husband and I had to wait a half hour even though we had a reservation and our server was really busy. Wonderful atmosphere but next time I’ll probably only go for drinks.
Food and service were excellent.
Server(Daneesh) was very good.
Main issue in the restaurant is that it is TOO LOUD. It is hard to hear anyone talk. Probably will not return.
Visiting from Boulder and had great meal. Tuna poke was fresh and served on a flat bread
The fish entrees were well seasoned and well done . I had the whole fish while my wife had the black cod. Wines were a little pricey but the service was attentive and prompt
I don’t have any additional information to share.
The decor and ambiance is fantastic and the food was great.
Food was fantastic. Server was fast, knowledgeable and friendly. The ambience was perfect for a Friday night
Had a lovely lunch here, service was great, atmosphere was nice, food was excellent! Parking can be a little tight at times, be sure to look at the lot next door first!
James, le serveur avec du métier! Good guy!
We had a wonderful experience here! Blaise and Tristan were exceptional servers, the food beautifully presented and expertly cooked, and a decent, if not extensive wine list.
Amazing food creative and delicious. Go for happy hour in the bar great wine and food value. Bar seating is very cool.
Great first time experience. Fish was exceptional.
Relaxing with lively opportunity to visit with friends
Lots of options
