The girl at the checkin counter looked dazed and disorganized. Bogdan was an excellent waiter.. attentive and professional. Repeat customer !!
We really enjoyed our dinner at Herringbone. Very cool modern California setting. Loved the seafood tower and especially the ceviche. Specialty drinks were good and creative. Didn’t love the margherita pizza but we are from NJ where pizza is tough to beat.
Great ambiance! Oysters and drinks during Happy Hours were tasty and good deal. Servers were super helpful and incredibly friendly!
Everything was great until it took half an hour to get our dessert (lava cake) because “the kitchen got backed up with a larger party”. Server did not offer to comp dessert or coffees while we waited. Octopus was cooked to perfection, lobster roll was good.
We visited Herringbone for our anniversary. The food was amazing and the ambiance was just perfect. If you are a fan of seafood, you’ll live this place! I’d recommend sitting indoors to experience the atmosphere.
“Z” was/is a professional and personable server.
Regarding the cuisine, the California halibut was excellent.
Our visit there could not have been better. Food, service..........everything!
Overall it was very good. Our only issue was that one of five desserts were completely sold out and they were sold out of some ingredients necessary for another.
We really enjoyed our raw bar items. I think the value was good for what we received. The ahi tacos were delicious and so was the red snapper fish and chips. The $48 NY strip was well cooked, but it was tough and inconsistent in texture, not what you would expect from such an expensive cut. They were out of the filet. Was glad they were able to move us to an inside table. Although the photos online were slightly misleading. The online photos had more lights and it looked more whimsical than it was in person. The ambiance was still nice, though.
I feel like we mostly paid for the ambiance than anything. The food: Vegan burger was good, just your typical impossible patty on a bun with a few toppings. The 14oz steak was cooked great but a bit overpriced for what it was — just a steak with a small caramelized onion, herb butter and a small side of greens. The lobster roll had more of a lobster salad taste to it. Clams were really good as well as the calamari! It was a pretty restaurant but I don’t necessarily think we will be back, the price of the food wasn’t necessarily worth it for us.
Food was great although only one fish main course? Problem was the lousy outdoor table set up, most of them on the road and no charm whatsover. Ours was along the outside wall at least, but it was not cleaned when we were shown to it, then we noticed a thick white film on the metal chairs and once again had to hunt down someone to clean it.
Really not up to par for this place, at this price. I wont ever eat outside again, as service wasnt great either.
We were very welcome with our 3 young children and received great service. The food was fantastic as well for all members of the family.
Great service and food. We brought our dog so we sat outside, it was great but we missed the beautiful ambiance of the indoors.
Brutally slow service for all outdoor tables. Frustrating experience. Food was not great either. They need to really shape up their act.
Great as always!
The indoor dining area is very stylish. Whoever set the decor should be commended. The food was good. Our seafood dishes were perfectly prepared, but could have used some acid, seasoning or interesting flavor. In other words, while perfectly cooked, the food was bland. My biggest complaint was the value. There are many great places to get seafood in La Jolla. Forty-two dollars for a piece of fish, seems high given other options in the same area. We likely will not return.
Unbelievable halibut and cocktails--great place to meet with small group or a date
Very pleased with our dinner at Herringbone. Out of some menu items, but waiter suggested alternatives, which were great!
Very pretty restaurant and yummy food. It’s a win win!
4 different meals all over cooked. This resturant used to be spot on now it’s well done. Drinks were good service was slow.
Great food, service and place.
Solid experience. Had a great time with a party of 6. Made my Moms Birthday very special as they went the extra mile with ice cream and flowers. Thanks again for the great time.
We are from out of town and have dined at Herringbone three time before over the last 4 years. We were very disappointed with our dining experience this time. My wife ordered the halibut, and the server did try to steer her away from it, indicating the cooking style left it drier. He suggested the salmon, but it was Atlantic meaning from raised which was surprising given we were on the West coast. The server was right, the halibut was dry to the point it was almost inedible. I had the chicken dish, and it had very little flavor, but it was moist. We were celebrating an event, and planned on some dessert, but the server said they were out of ALL desserts. I thought he was joking, but he was serious. I heard him tell another table, and they were equally surprised. I don’t see us returning because the food the time before was underwhelming, and this time, it was just not good. It does have a nice ambiance which is why we returned after our mediocre visit the time before, but the food just isn’t worth it.
Took an hour to get our entrees and the waiter was apathetic.
Herringbone is always a favorite go to. The menu changed over the years but the newer items are very good.
Super nice restorant, with mask and the high music is difficult to hear each others.
Food was very good! Price high
The food and staff were excellent!
Great dinner, great service
The seafood was disappointing in taste and overall imagination. The grilled shrimp risotto was dry and not worth finishing. The pan seared halibut which was the waiter’s favorite dish on the menu was nothing special, and the corn succotash that came with it was too sweet and made it feel like a cheap Hawaiian banquet dish. But it wasn’t cheap, it was a $45 halibut plate.
I had ordered a pan seared halibut from A.R. Valentien earlier that same week and it was an AMAZING dish. I should have just gone back and ordered that again. The plate was only $3 more expensive there.
Don’t go to Herringbone. The food isn’t worth it. Maybe it’s worth going for the cocktails and ambience but even my mezcal cocktail was just bleh.
I wanted to enjoy it given it was our last night in town.
Some dishes were good others not memorable. Limited menu.
We set a timer after a while (5 min) because we were seated and we were not given menus or greeted by a server. We decided that if the timer got to 15min we would leave. Someone came by to give us water at 10min, but they couldn’t give us menus or take our order. Then our server showed up. Not sure if he was new but there was no pleasantries, no hello, are you ready, etc. just came up to us and stood there. Awkward. Food was expensive and not good. We had fish and chips/lobster roll. Not worth it.
Basically, the food was just OK and the service was slow>
Unique and beautiful atmosphere. We loved the live trees growing inside the restaurant. Our food was delicious, and service top notch. We plan to be repeat customers.
Our server was not friendly or informative at all. Very bad service.
first off.. traffic was not as expected so we arrived early. you accommodated us THANK YOU. We asked for oysters which took a while, but they were from baja and very tasty. bread to start world's have been nice, (with butter) having oysters. clam chowder would have been a proper fit due to location. Ahi tacos were fanaminal. you were very busy which helps me understand the wait. We will be back.. and probably with company.
The service was excellent and the decor of this refurbished warehouse is remarkable. The food was great and who can complain about dollar oysters during happy hour! The only complaint is that the sound of a busy well run restaurant was drown out by music that was too loud and not needed
Great experience all around
Our waiter wasn’t very attentive and really did not check up on us. I’d expect a lot more service since I did do a reservation. This Texan wasn’t impressed with this restaurant.
Fresh oysters and clean chucked. There is limited menu for happy hours. It was a bit too warm in the back not sure how it could be during summer time. Great cocktails and reasonably priced.
