Herringbone – La Jolla
Book your next event with us
Need to book at 7:30 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Food is always great here. Service was excellent as well. I misplaced my cell phone while there and the staff and manager went above and beyond to help me find it. Very, very kind and genuine people.
My wife and I along with another couple decided to have dinner for our wedding anniversary and to celebrate a birthday. We have been there a few times before and had an outstanding dinner. This time the waitress informed us that there was a new chef and that the menu had changed. Indeed it had with the foods we liked the most (the fried whole fish, the brussels sprouts with candied walnuts etc) was no longer on the menu. One of our entrees was too salty, one was too sweet, one had too much squid ink. We left disappointed and wanting the old menu back. On a positive note the ambiance was great.
Beautiful restaurant. Price is on the higher end. Food was so incredibly salty that we could not finish it. The salt aftertaste wouldn’t go away and left the insides of our mouths shriveled with salt overdose. I wish I would’ve known, I would not have spent $100 for 2 this unfortunate experience
Dined here on a Friday night and absolutely loved it.
The hostess had a smile on her face when we walked in and made us feel right at home. We went to
the bar first to have a cocktail while they got our table ready. The bartender June V was attentive and so friendly even though the bar was packed. The interior of the restaurant is warm and comfortable with interior brick and neutral tones. They had live music that was very good and not too loud - no problem hearing each other.
Our waiter Miles was top notch. He easy going, relaxed and answered all of our questions. The food was outstanding - we started with the ceviche which was fresh and light. For an entree I had the snapper and my husband had the mixed grill (steak, 2 scallops and 2 shrimp) and it was all cooked to perfection.
Will visit again when in La Jolla. Highly recommend!
Anniversary 49 years.
The service was terrible, I had to get up twice to ask for things. The server never checked on us
Service was great but the food oh my..
I asked for the salmon to be medium cooked. They brought me charred salmon, it was dry and we could not eat all of it since it was a plaque burned and salty all through the bottom. The rice was mushy with ok taste. It was more of a tapioca pudding texture, and it was not risotto but rice that looks like they tried to make it mushy like risotto.
The broccolini was tasty but still pretty hard to eat, it needed to be cooked a little longer.
Overall, this place has a beautiful atmosphere and great service but the food is highly overrated and overpriced for the quality.
Great atmosphere-it’s gorgeous inside the restaurant. The food was good-a bit overpriced. They offer some tasty beverages. The service is really where things fell apart. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks and almost an hour to get our food and it wasn’t even packed.
Very good! Loved the ambiance, our waitress was amazing and the food was a 10. We ordered the lobster roll and it was delicious! Mimosas were good, overall I really enjoyed myself.
The noise level depended, when I was there, on whether you were in the front, where there was live music, or in the back, where there was no music. I found the quiet back of the restaurant very pleasant, and the “trees” that dominate the decor were a great conversation piece. The food was everything brunch food should be. We had a good time, and I would go back.
Service is alright. Host sounded annoyed over the phone. Server did not explain the menu. Had the Valentine’s Day food and wine pairing. Did not explain that you had to ask for the wine.
My husband’s risotto was Luke warm and not very good.
One of the best date night restaurants in San Diego!
Survey was inattentive - brought and charged us for the wrong bottle of wine. Also brought food substitutions that he didn’t check with us about first hand.
Great location and the decor was nice. Service was excellent. The food, however, was mediocre at best. We were a party of 4 and nobody was impressed.
Beautiful place. Must check this out!
We got married here in 2017 and came back to visit with our friends and 1 year old while in town. Our waitress Zoe was great as was the food and ambiance as always
Amazing environment, service and food! A must go in San Diego!
We were a little disappointed because the entire menu has changed due to the new head chef. Now don’t get me wrong the food was good, just not as good as last time. I was hoping to try the octopus and it’s not on the menu. That said, we had a very enjoyable meal, just not great. We started off with the Margherita Flatbread which was good. It was my wife’s favorite of the meal. We then had Yellowtail Terradito which was pieces of Yellowtail sushi topped with an interesting light topping. The mini lobster tacos were good and crunchy with some small pieces of lobster and a flavorful sauce. The Sea bass which was the main course was good, not great. We got this excellent parfait that had melon ice cream, vanilla tapioca for dessert. We will be back and hopefully it will be even better next time.
The menu changed, and not for the better. It took over 40 minutes for us to get our food, which ended up being in to-go boxes at that point. Management offered an apology, but nothing more than that. Super disappointing meal.
Sticky bun and lobster rolls are a MUST! Service was great.
I was disappointed. The space is lovely but that is where the praise ends. My dish lacked acidity and seasoning. My cauliflower was cold and only mildly flavorful. My husbands seafood risotto had four pieces of seafood including two shrimp, one scallop and one ring of squid. Service was disorganized and never checked whether we liked our meal or needed anything else. Herringbone is expensive and a poor value for the price. I’d been once before a year ago and loved herringbone then. Not so much this time.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us, Mimi. I apologize that the culinary side was so underwhelming. We will address this with our culinary team and speak to our service team immediately. We are sorry to hear the poor service has turned you and your husband off from Herringbone. We hope you are willing to give us another try in the future to make up for this experience.
Same old way, same old fashion, always nice to have brunch here.
The entire experience is always exceptional. We love La Jolla location.
It was my first time there. It was a perfect area for our party. Our waitress forgot one of our orders, but did take it off the bill. The service was slow, but for that day it worked.
We will come back.
A pesar de los años sigue siendo uno de los mejores restaurantes. Nunca había estado en el brunch, fenomenal
Great food with a noisy but interesting ambience. The presents of the dishes was first rate and the service was wonderful
Very slow service. Appeared understaffed for the crowd size. Food once ordered came out slowly. Cauliflower cold and tasteless. Food quality used to be better. Incredibly noisy to a point of distraction.
Cool atmosphere, somewhere limited menu but the food was good. A little pricey but that's where in this area.
The atmosphere is amazing, if anything just go for that. I had the scallops which were awesome but I would have liked to get 1-2 more for $42. I still say great date night experience.
Nothing more to add!
