It’s a bar.
Waited for food for over an hour, waiter said it was because it was the first day of a new menu~had to go to bar to get our drinks...horrible service...asked to speak to manager and she said was too busy to come to our table
Really lovely restaurant with a super lovely indoor ambiance. Our server was fantastic and we had a great time. We put our orders in pretty late so the kitchen was closing. The food was a bit rushed in the cooking. The fries were a bit soggy still and the burger was overcooked. Really good lobster roll and fantastic drinks. Overall, fun experience.
The outdoor seating area gets dark and the noise from the cars on the street is loud at times.
We love Herringbone, one of our regulars. We often get the lobster rolls, but everything they make is delicious. Also love their curried cauliflower side dish. The seafood is excellent there, it has great ambience, and servers are always nice.
Great food and service! It has outdoor space and are opening indoors soon.
Good value at happy hour with lower priced drinks and $1 oysters. Service very slow, fairly inattentive. Oysters fair, seemed odd that the cocktail sauce tasted and looked like doctored ketchup. Great atmosphere, good drinks. Expected better, but would give them another chance.
Great place, slow service.
Currently at herringbone as we speak. Made a reservation several days ago. The hostess offers us the seat by the entrance. When we ask if we can have ANY other one, she says they are fully booked even though several tables in sight were empty. We reluctantly took seats outside, and observed serval people go in after. Hopefully the food is good, but it doesn't even matter if it is. First impressions last. The food is just ok, a little overpriced for what you get. Service was well below average for place like this
The ambiance indoors was great, however the service from our server was beyond poor. We were getting more help from other servers and bussers than our own server. We were waiting on either our food or server to come by all night. There were tables who sat after us and received their food before us. We were told that the kitchen was “running behind” when it wasn’t even busy. When the food finally came out, we were missing a dish and half of the food was cold. Finally, after enough waiting around, we spoke to the manager. She quickly resolved the problem, however our overall experience was ruined with the lack of service we received.
The clams were absolutely amazing. The vibe was good and the mojitos were great too.
I had mentioned that we were celebrating a marriage cocktail z
Great service. Beautiful ambiance. Yummy food. Family celebration for my daughter's 21st birthday.
Had a great experience at Herringbone. Went with friends that wanted to be outdoor and socially distanced, and it was perfect.
extremely cosy and upscale for simple yet very tasty food!
The oysters were amazing, other than that, a complete waste of time. The outside seating looked very last minute thrown together. The service was good to start, but unimpressive after taking drink/appetizer order. The meals were a complete joke. I ordered the NY steak entree, and that’s literally what I got. A NY steak, nothing else with it. My wife got a clam chowder to go, and had no utensils to eat it with in the bag.
Must try the raw oysters, they were amazing. The service was terrific. Overall might be my favorite restaurant in San Diego.
Food & service was exceptional! Chilean Sea Bass was phenomenal!
Food is very good and endless rose is a great deal during weekend brunch. Nice ambiance. Friendly staff.
The food was fantastic. Outside tables right up against the restaurant were crammed together had to duck around the space heaters. The space heaters were electric and did not provide warmth. The server never came back and checked how we were doing or refilled our waters.
The buck a shuck oysters for happy hour were amazing. The happy hour beers on tap were also excellent. However, the other happy hour apps and cocktails were...meh. They seemed pre-made and watered down. The service was excellent though and the ambiance is amazing inside.
super cute spot, went for happy hour & they didn’t disappoint
Food was decent, interior is pleasant, and the wait staff was attentive.
Amazing food amazing staff and such a beautiful atmosphere one of my new favs
It was quite chilly and the restaurant wasn't even 1/4 full (even with COVID restrictions) and we still weren't allowed to sit inside, which was a bit frustrating but overall they did a good job trying to make us comfortable and keep us warm outside. Good food, great/attentive servers!
Attentive service, great decor, quiet bustling ambience, and delicious food? They’ve got it all in spades.
First time visit post pandemic. The place is nothing like what it was before pandemic. The menu was totally new, lost almost all specialty it used to have, especially iconic fish ceviche. Ordered steamed clams, dozen oysters and fish'n'chips. All 12 oysters are the same type, usually a whole dozen is composed with at least 2 types, in dinner time, not happy hour. Clams are way over cooked, and the sauce tastes like they used too much black ale inside, too bitter. Fish'n'chips is ok. Cocktails are fine, nothing special though. Personally suspect they lost their main chefs and failed to hire them back when re-open.
I admit it is my bad that I didn't check the new menu before going. If I have checked their menu online I would be alarmed and wouldn't go.
PS: This is the first of our major dining experience post-pandemic, it is a loud warning that the reviews and experience before pandemic can be totally outdated and not reflecting what is now.
I don't typically leave bad reviews, but this was one of the worst dining experiences I have had in San Diego. We arrived at 5:30 pm with friends for an early dinner/happy hour as they had to drive to Palm Springs afterwards. The $1 oysters were good. But the service and length of the meal were simply atrocious. It took us 3 hours to eat... no exaggeration, we walked away from the patio at 8:34 pm. We had our waiter forget 1 of the 2 dozen oysters we ordered. We received a total of 4 drinks in the first hour and had 1 round of appetizers ordered. It took at least 30-45 minutes each time between visits to the table by our server. We felt bad for the bus boy as we had to request his additional assistance multiple times throughout the meal. Overall, this was a very sour experience, and we would have simply walked out had we not been meeting friends. The outdoor patio staff needs to take a serious look at the amount of staff they are dedicating to the patio, or ensure they are hiring staff that is more attentive. I am a former waiter at a similar higher end restaurant, and this service was simply inexcusable. I have been to Herringbone for brunch and lunch multiple times in the past and had great experiences. Sadly, I will not be dining here ever again after this last experience. This is a direct results of Herringbone's wait staff. And honestly, the Fish and Chips weren't that great either, so I'd suggest ordering something else. The calamari appetizer was good at least.
fish and chips had no taste, salad didn't have all the ingredients,
Food was amazing and very fresh. Service was very slow :(
I had high hopes for this beautiful restaurant but the service at brunch was under par. The hostess seemed like a fish out of water wandering around in a daze. The servers were nice enough but inexperienced and untrained. It wasn’t all that busy that everything should have taken so long. And the food was not hot.
Great experience, a bit pricey but par for La Jolla, CA
Terrible service it seems that they only have 1 server for the entire outside setting， and he doesn't seem to really know what he's doing, forgetting parts of the orders, chatting with other people while we're waiting for 45 minutes to get our first drinks. Management doesn't seem to care, even though they will charge you $30 per person if you cancel or don't show up, so along with the high ratings we expected a pretty high level of service in return! Manager didn't even bother to come and apologize directly to us, instead we got a small glass of rosé. Meh.
Ambiance inside looks nice.
Great Birthday Brunch!
Menu looked amazing so we were really Looking forward to coming! Seafood tower was delish. My main course was a letdown at best. The salmon was over cooked, the sauce on the bottom was so strongly tasting of vinegar it overpowered everything else on the plate. Need up eating off my husband plate instead and his sea bass was good but lacking. Was a total let down. I don’t think we’d eat here again.
HORRIBLE service. Horrible.
Happy Hour for $1 oysters...great oysters! This place never disappoints.
Great oysters and lobster roll! Beautiful restaurant
I made special request for our anniversary celebration, this was not accommodated. The hostess did not make any attempt to seat us in a nice area. Service was super slow.
