Food was fresh and good, but was not good enough to make Heritage Kitchen a regular dinner spot for me. Both salads were not tossed with the dressing. A small amount of dressing was added on top and the diner had to toss to get dressing distributed throughout. Principal taste in shrimp and grits I think was chili powder? It wasn't Cajun or the Carolina low country styles, I love. Shrimp served in the sauce with tails on but there was no side plate to put them on when you removed them. The place has potential, but not that evening.
Very limited wine list. Supporting the Texas wine industry is a great move, but they were out of several of the selections.
It was a slow Saturday night. The food was quite good. The waiter was pleasant, but somewhat slow. He emphasized this by apologizing every time he approached.
This was the second time we have been there. The food was actually better the first time we went- in fact my steak was amazing that visit. However, this time they mixed up our steaks. My boyfriend got the medium cooked one, while I got his medium rare. Since we both ordered the same cut (except he did a larger steak) we just switched plates. I had asked for brussel sprouts instead of potatoes, but my order came out with potatoes. They did make it right and correct the error. I think they were short staffed, because it took much longer this time. I would still go back, as the food is good, they maybe just had a bad night!
First visit. Brunch on Sunday. 3 of us. Hummus appetizer came out at same time as entree. The flat bread had an identity crisis- part of each piece was very hard and part was soft. The hummus flavor was excellent and the flat bread was tasty and seasoned well but the texture was the only issue. Steak and feta salad was very tasty but short on feta. The breakfast sandwich was excellent. The breakfast potatoes were a bit on the soggy side. Chorizo and potatoes were very good. One suggestion for brunch would be to offer orange juice and maybe even mimosas. The restaurant looks awesome on the inside, very clean and modern and comfortable. Greeter at front very friendly. Chandler our server was very nice. Will be coming back for an evening meal in the near future!
Our Server was so nice and tried to make our experience the best. She made us feel so welcome.
She is very knowledgeable about the menu.
The food is very good and different then the other restaurant which is a nice change. Priceline is perfect.
Nice surprise when you go inside. I had passed by many times but did not go in since you can’t see inside. A few plants or bench on sidewalk could make it more appealing.
Great new place.
Would only recommend for Lunch. Relaxed atmosphere. Steak was just ok. Not a lot of flavor. More like cooked on griddle than grilled.
Asked for side salad, told only salad with meat, so we had to get a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken to go with our steak.
The side was a tiny bite of spinach, maybe a fork full.
Overpriced for the quality.
Maybe a good piece of meat, but not cooked right that night for sure.
Have been for lunch and really liked everything we have had!
Incredible food like you would find inDallas or Houston
Always great dinner out there
Food and service was excellent. The wait staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had the short rib brunch special. It was great! My wife and son both had a flatbread. They loved there’s also.
Wine dept needs help. Little choice, small amount by the glass.
I have been to Heritage Kitchen at least five times in the evening for dinner and twice for lunch. So very happy to have a new restaurant in Kerrville with a great vibe and great food! My only suggestion is that they keep their wines in stock that are on the menu.
Second visit not as good as the first. Had to beg them to check us in on Open Table, knowing that a "no show" hurts our profile on OT. Food was OK, but not that inspiring, and frankly came out a little too fast to believe it was "freshly cooked".
The server was, while friendly, very uninspiring, and clearly wanted to be somewhere else. We will likely return, largely due to a lack of choices in the area, but if it does not improve on that visit we will likely call that our last visit.
One of the best steaks in town, delicious sides and the Brussels sprouts and okra are exceptional!
Service was very slow, food was good as usual. Our waiter explained that two waiters had quit yesterday. I can deal with slow service under those circumstances but they were out of wine.coffee.cream,etc! How does that happen? Not the first time they have been out of stuff when we were there. We are pulling for them because the owner is a local and the food is very good but...???
Had a good lunch there, so decided to take a guest there for dinner. Granted, we had a late reservation for 8:30, but did not expect to hear that they were out of the two specials, out of pork chops and out of Chardonnay. We felt defeated before we even ordered. I suppose we should have left. We ordered, my husband requested a small change to his steak, but after a long wait, we were told the chef made it wrong and was remaking it. Now we wait again, with 2 entrees probably sitting under a heat lamp waiting on the steak. Finally our food comes, the steak perfect. But the other 2 entrees were cold, one being ribeye, which was also tough and fatty. Just not the best experience. Really wanted it to be a WOW!
The kitchen had lost one of our orders. They brought out my wife’s order and never mentioned why my order wasn’t out. We finally asked the waiter and he confessed that the order had been overlooked by the kitchen. The waiter was not attentive to us, but seemed to be avoiding us because of the delay. The food was very good once it arrived. I would expect these clutches to occur with a start up, but this restaurant had been open for several months. We won’t go back anytime soon.
Again, this is my fav restaurant in Kerrville! Delicious food great service and a great location! Will eat there again and again!
Great service. Good food. Awesome addition to Kerrville
Disappointing meal. Service was good but the Fried Okra seems to have been cooked and then reheated and was soaked in too much olive oil. The rib eye steak was flavorless and a blob of fat with undercooked meat.
First visit was TERRIFIC (our waitress was Yvonna) so we went back 2 days later. Completely different experience. The short ribs on the lunch menu were not available on both visits. The brussell sprouts are excessively sweet, but great flavor combo idea. Mussels are delicious, but the bread is a miss. Not hardy enough and not toasted on both sides - turns into a soggy, mushy "bite" as it is served already soaking in the broth. The flatbread could not be cut with a knife and fork but was still floppy with too much cheese and oil. Again, great flavor combo, but poor execution. We asked our waitress about dessert, but she forgot and brought us a check. We asked about it again and she didn't know what the dessert was. This place has great potential, but needs to pay attention to basic finish details in food and wait staff.
I had been wanting to dine here for a while and went on a Saturday night, before Mother's Day.
The complimentary glass of champagne was a nice touch and my five year son LOVED his ample macaroni and cheese.
His mum and I ordered the shrimp with grits and 8oz steak and potatoes, respectively.
The flavor and quality of our dishes was excellent. However, they arrived at our table cold.
Our server was very nice and had them sent back to be warmed. I believe more than one customer had the same issue that night.
I cannot remember the name if our dessert, but it was a Texas pecan something that was to die for.
The three if us inhaled it like three little pigs.
The service was excellent and our server was most helpful making suggestions from the menu.
I'd like to come back and hope that Heritage has solved the cold dish issue.
This is the second time I've made a reservation, gone to the restaurant and it was closed. Both on Friday nights when they say they are open and Open Table has made our reservation. Won't be back
NICE NICE restaurant ! They have blackboards and on these are the food items used and where they are from! ALL THE FOOD is from Texas! Oh I will definitely be back! Excellent! I had the Strawberry Fields salad and the prosciutto, cheese and fig flat bread! Oh my delish! We started out with fried okra in lime chili sauce! Excellent! My friend has shrimp and grits she said the best ! I am in a wheelchair and this place is 100% handicap accessible...**
Food was very good. Had fried okra and humus- excellent. Shrimp and grits were delicious. Food came quickly and server was very attentive
Quite possible the worst restaurant experience I have had in my entire 50 years on this planet! Our server was rude and kept making excuses for why we hadn’t been served an hour and 45 minutes into our visit! When the food finally came out, 3 of the 7 orders were not correct, but at that point we just wanted to get out of there! If you’re wondering why we stayed, it was Easter Sunday, so going anyplace else would required a lengthy wait!
Good food. Will be back.
So...we just moved to Kerrville about a month and a half ago and in our research, we put the Heritage Kitchen on our short list of places to eat at. After eating there, I wish we would’ve placed it higher on that list, as when we did get to it, it was the absolute best meal we’ve had in Kerrville so far! The price, with a bottle of wine, was also very reasonable (albeit, we did move here from Alaska, which is ridiculously expensive). Try the braised short rib with sharp cheddar cheese grits, it’ll sell you on going back! Very, very highly recommended! Go check it out and enjoy your meal!
Good menu, wine, service! Great addition to our fine city!
From start to finish, the food was delicious and well-prepared. Highest marks to the grilled salmon!
This visit was my second visit at Heritage Kitchen. Both visits the wait staff was understaffed. The waitstaff that were on duty were unable to handle the number of tables they were to service.
The restaurant was very loud, it was difficult to have a conversation.
One of the dishes ordered was a vegetable salad bowl at a cost of $12.00. What was brought to the table was a small dinner salad. I let the waitress know that I was unhappy the the size of the salad. The floor manager came to the table to correct the situation. Another salad was brought to the table. The floor manager was very concerned with making us happy. We were satisfied with the solution.
Overall, I would say I would go back again but I hope the owners make some attempt to address the noise level by placing acoustic panels or something to lower background noise. The management needs to hire more staff.
Short ribs were very tender but also heavy on the fat. Much quieter than our last visit, with very good service.
Nice concept bit not quite there. Food ideas good but not fully executed. Tastes were bland, pedestrian and did not deliver the WOW factor suggested by the descriptions. Lackluster service.
It was our first visit there. The interior space is well done. They have added a few ceiling tiles to absorb some of the noise. We ordered the mussels appetizer and each had the short ribs which were pretty good, although they were out of grits (how does that happen?!). Mashed potatoes were substituted. The wine selection was mediocre—they should add some non-Texas wines. We are proud Texans, but let’s be real, There are many non-Texas wines that are much better! Overall, a nice meal. We will definitely be back!
One suggestion, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE get a liquor license!
The food was excellent! Service was ok, we had to ask for water 3 times before we were served. Our waitress was friendly but did not check in often.
It is wonderful to have such fresh, flavorful food available in Kerrville. The shrimp and grits is a 'must try'. The burger is fabulous even without the bun and the French fries are a definite guilty pleasure. Management and staff are carefully accommodating of allergies and dietary restrictions.
Took a impromptu drive to Kerrville and wanted to try somewhere nice for appetizers. We were greeted by by a woman that seemed a bit disinterested in being there. Our server was friendly but could have been more attentive.
We decided on the goat cheese fondue with fig jam, then a short while later the Brussels sprouts arrived at the table which we did not order. They took them back and then you could hear them in the kitchen telling them to make the fondue so our order was put in wrong. The sprouts looked so good that we requested them a few minutes later. They were the best Brussel sprouts I ever had. A perfect blend of sweet, salty, savory and sour.
The goat cheese fondue came out looking great. With some lovely toast planks. The one disappointment is there was more fondue than toast. Even with generous helpings of fondue on each bite we reasonably needed two more planks. Great flavor and texture but had to finish with a spoon.
Unfortunately they did not have the menu items we wanted so we went elsewhere.
Interesting new restaurant which is still developing its menu and offerings. Very flavorful food and attentive service. Somewhat aligns with the style and tastes of another popular restaurant in the area but without the Cody ambiance or beer selection. I hope HK develops it’s own character and gives diners reasons to return frequently.
Food was excellent, flavorful, and well prepared. Nice atmosphere but extremely noisy. You need to install noise buffers in the ceiling and on the walls. It would dramatically create a more intimate atmosphere to go with the delicious food served.
I’ve heard different opinions from clients who have already been to the restaurant. Although it wasn’t very busy, we had a great experience. From the okra to the brussel sprouts, the appetizers were wonderful. We split the white cheddar macaroni with grilled shrimp and the blue cheese burger. Both fantastic. Especially the string fries. Our table shared the grits as well which, I could have eaten those by myself. They were that good. Serving local wines is wonderful. We had a Tempranillo from Newson Vineyard which was delightful. Our server turned out to be a local from Comfort who did an excellent job of taking care of us and joining in on our good time. I’ve been told it gets loud in the space when there are a lot of people but to me, that means you’re successful. Best of luck on your journey Heritage Kitchen.😊
Really big portions (the piece of cake could have fed the 6 of us). Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. I had the mac & cheese. Quite tasty, but it would have been nice if a bit less was offered, and in exchange, a small salad. That was a LOT of the same food, no matter how tasty.
