Here's Looking At You
Here's Looking At You is pretending to be a friendly little neighborhood restaurant, when in truth, it is a food mecca. Jonathan Whitener's menu is innovative, unique and just insanely delicious. Pastry Chef Thessa Diadem's desserts set new standards for uncontrollable crave-ability while also being completely unusual, carefully thought out, and masterfully crafted. Lien Ta and her team make you feel welcome, embraced, invited to the best party in town. Don't miss out on this place. It's a gem.
One of the very best in Los Angeles
Every dish is outstanding
I cannot go here often enough
Great service to boot
Delicious food, the best were the tomatoes, we ordered two plates of them, pork belly and radicchio salad spectacular.
Do not miss this restaurant!
We loved the food ad are eager to return. The service was great! It was, admittedly, quite loud. Hard to hear each other. But overall, just stellar!
Best chef in Los Angeles. HLAY is turning out amazing dishes, with excellent service and a top notch bar to go with the amazing food.
There were four of us for dinner. Food was mostly creative and enjoyable. But honestly the beef rib chop at $120 was way overrated and overpriced. We wish we didn’t order that.
Creative menu. Great place
Great service combined with great food. We enjoyed it! Really everything was different and delicious!
We had a late lunch reservation and felt rushed a bit by the staff to eat fast and leave so they could prep for dinner service. Honestly, everyone is super nice. The issue was more time management and transparency. Tell people that if they make a late reservation - the kitchen is going to close at X time and the dining room closes at Y time. Lessens anxiety for all involved. Thanks.
Everything was fantastic. Best brunch in LA if you like interesting delicious food and drinks.
The restaurant itself is nicely decorated, such that some may consider it instagram-worthy. The hostess could've been more enthusiastic.
The servings are generous, and definitely meant to be shared. Here's the play by play of brunch on a Saturday:
The liver toast was tasty, although the toast itself was a little over-toasted. The basque peppers were a perfect complement (but be warned- more peppers are not complimentary).
The Jerusalem bagel was baked just right and probably one of the highlights - the spread and salmon roe was just the right amount of salty and deliciousness.
The coconut taste of the waffle was not overpowering; the berries/sauce were a little imbalanced, tart at some points, more sour at others.
The eggs in the Shakshuka basically cooked were buried inside and were basically hardboiled as opposed to poached; the green sauce was only not memorable.
The katsu was probably the only other highlight; the panko breading was just right; the curry sauce was a winner; the only downside was we were lead to believe that hash browns or curly fries were an included side. Had we known they were just a recommendation- we would've skipped the curly fries and gone to Jack-in-the-box.
The donuts came in two different flavors, neither of which were particularly unique or tasty. Even if the staff had taken note of the "Birthday" indicated on the OpenTable reservation, I don't think a candle or any acknowledgment whatsoever could have made up for the lesser parts of the meal. Maybe I'll stop by for drinks at the bar at some point, but as of now, I'm unlikely to recommend the place for brunch.
Terrific food in Koreatown. Service was good if a bit slow. cocktails were ok. Great spot for dinner before a show at the Wiltern.
Had some amazing food at Here's Looking at You. Everything is shared. They are most accommodating, one in our party of four is gluten sensitive, so the chef marked the menu items they could safely share. Drinks were excellent - though a little on expensive side. As well, be sure to ask what the MP market price is before ordering. Our prime rib was amazing and delicious but pricey at $150 -- There was enough for everyone to share --- but pricey. The flavors of all the items as distinct and blended well. This was our first time and now, having had the initial dining experience, are better prepared for our return visit. Bon appetit!
Above my expectations for sure! Went before a concert at the Wiltern and it was just perfect. Service was quick. WILL DEF BE BACK!
We went for brunch and it was excellent, great cocktails and yummy food. Service at the bar was terrific, super friendly. Dishes were larger than described though, and two of us could not fully finish 4 plates ... the last one was a carb heavy everything breakfast. The other 3 dishes were superb ... chicory salad amazing!
Ambiance isn’t special but hip and cool, and mellow in the early afternoon, at 1pm, fairly low key quiet ... no idea what dinner is like in that regard.
The food is truly inventive and spiritual.
The food was amazing! So many flavors. Cocktail menu was super creative although kinda pricy at $16 for one drink. Our server was friendly and made great suggestions. Loved it!!
We read the reviews and had very high expectations and the restaurant delivered. The food is so good - off beat ingredients, creative, excellently prepared. All of it. There were 5 of us and we had much of the menu (about 10 items). All were great. But there were favorites: the liver pate, the pork belly, the fish with curry and nan, the steak. Cocktails were equally creative and fun and tasty. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. A little pricey, but worth it.
Best biscuits and gravy I've had in years, and the bagel was awesome. My fiance and I usually split our dishes with each-other, but we both refused after taking the first bit. We cannot wait to go back, and I've been raving about that gravy since.
Great, interesting flavors with unexpected and delicious combinations.
HLAY is always phenomenal: the vibe, the menu which is always changing never disappoints, the service is excellent, and it’s just so much fun. But the food is definitely the focus and is absolutely fresh, creative, beautiful, and most importantly consistently scrumptious.
Cocktails are next level and the brunch is not to be missed either. One of our all time favorites in a city with tons of restaurants. Love this spot!
Fantástico!! Realmente una experiencia muy buena. Buenos vinos, comida deliciosa, creatividad y ejecución.
I love this place. Never disappoints. The staff is superb. The food is always delicious and unique. It’s the perfect balance of high end fancy food, but still a casual warm environment.
Really interesting and yummy food. Surprisingly, we preferred the vegetarian dishes to the meat entrees. The desserts and cocktails were STANDOUT. Our waitress was amazing and helpful with accommodating dietary restrictions. The only complaint would be one that I've read in other reviews: they overbook. We waited around 40 min with a reservation. Kind of ridiculous to make a reservation for such a long wait.
Also a little annoying that after the long wait, we requested a table near the window that had cleared up, but were told it was reserved to combine with another table to seat a party of six. A group of 2 were seated there about 10 min after we were seated.
Delicious dinner, but prepare to wait a while.
May not be the best brunch option if you're gluten sensitive (like my wife); but if you aren't... so much goodness! The signature cocktails were amazing and the food was delicious.
Shishito w/Tonno was the best dish and surprising, given how many restaurants do shishito peppers. Bagna Cauda, beets and river prawns were all on point. Mackerel was just ok, didn't love the pickled treatment and the proportionality of the dish. Pork Belly shouldve been awesome, but wasn't because they cubes of belly couldve/shouldve been rendered better to be more tender inside. THat said, still was a strong dish. Drinks all great.
Excellent and unique
In a word, this meal was phenomenal. Creative and fun menu executed to perfection. In a land of talented chefs, this is a menu that challenges conventions. Loved it. Can't wait to return.
Fantastic food and service
Given the name of the restaurant, I would have expected a more retro - lounge feel. Ambiance not special; music a bit annoying and not in sync again with name of restaurant. Sharing plates mostly. Food was interesting and tasty, but some plates seemed high priced for what you receive. The dessert choice was disappointing. Only two desserts, both cold dishes on a cold rainy night. Neither dish seemed interesting so we passed on desserts even though we love sweets and were celebrating a birthday! An interesting choice if you are a foodie looking for new combinations and have the budget to indulge. Not a cozy romantic place for a date.
Busy, smart restaurant with very creative menu and share plates. Good service. Wine by the glass. Enjoyed the night.
What an amazing place! The food is innovative, beautiful, unique and insanely delicious. The desserts are out of this world..The service is top notch. This is a gem of a restaurant. I am so thrilled to have it in our city.
This is definitely a restaurant for foodies. This is NOT a place that is trendy where the food does not actually taste good.
The yellowtail collar dish is great. The fish itself had beautiful taste and the coating was delicious. It is very difficult to add flavor to yellowtail that enhances the flavor without overpowering it, but this dish was successful at accomplishing just that. The menu changes frequently, but the shishito peppers and corn ribs are stable favorites. The chicory salad is tasty, as are the different fish crudos. We've had other dishes that were delicious but unfortunately for you, they are not on the menu right now, and I can't remember the names.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT!! The chestnut mochi is the BOMB! I always laugh when people say they are too full for dessert. They just don't know what they are missing. Don't say no one told you!
It feels like an Instagram algorithm cobbled together every trend with no regard for the experience as a whole. Bright flourescent lighting (but not charming like Night + Market), poor service, overpriced and average tiki drinks, strange portion sizes. The whole operation is trying too hard and lacking in confidence. All too photogenic, and terribly shallow. I do not recommend.
Birthday celebration was great, food was delicious and service was excellent
Simply the best! I've dined here almost 10 times and its continues to impress.
My wife was asked if she had any allergies and she told the wait staff she couldn’t eat cilantro. The kitchen still put cilantro in the dishes and then told my wife they don’t remove any items for customer. We also reserved table seating but was switched to bar seating without any notice. When we confirmed reservation we asked again for table seating but was told there’s a maximum of only 1.5 hours we can dine....
The food was delicious but very small portions and a bit pricey. Most likely won’t be coming back.
An incredible neighborhood restaurant. Service always attentive yet never overwhelming, casual and the food always creative without being pretentious and complicated. Simply delicious.
The service was impeccable, the food was amazing and the desserts were especially delicious 😍
Came here the second time after a year. I must state that I LOVED their food last time I was here. But this time, I'm pretty disappointed. I found most of the dressing/sauces in my food extremely acid - too much love for the fresh lemon juice? HLAY is definitely overpowering their food, most dishes we ordered were just heavy. I hope they switch things around and do a better job with their food.
The service was attentive with some staff more friendly than others.
