Hereford House - Leawood Ratings and Reviews
We dined in the private dining room. Spencer, our waiter, did an excellent job taking care of all our needs in a friendly courteous say. The steaks were really good. The desserts were a bit lacking in creativity and taste. However we go there for the steaks. If we want great desserts we go to J. Gilberts or J Alexanders.
Hereford House has been around for as long as I can remember and they do not disappoint. My friend and I both had the filet which was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. We kept our table for a while after our meal and our wait person was gracious and never made us feel like we were being pushed out the door. (There were empty tables.)
The filet and the ribeye were so tender one didn't need a knife! Overall the food was very good, not great, but the meat was wonderful. This is a very nice steak house - a step up from places like Long Branch, as you can see by the prices when you go online.
Our dinner was a disaster. We had a reservation on Christmas Eve for 6:30 and were seated immediately. Our server got our drink orders & brought them over 15 minutes later. We ordered our food at that time. 40 minutes later we still had not received bread or our appetizers. I asked another server for bread. After the bread came I asked for a manager . I told them how long we had been there and that we even had to ask for bread. They got our appetizers out at 7: 40. The salads came out at 7:55. Our server had been taking very good care of a small party of young ladies and their mothers who came in after us. He was being very pleasant and helpful with them. We really didn't see him again at our table. Then we waited until 8:30 for our main courses. We again asked for the manager. During this time everyone around us had been taken care of and left. People who came in long after us had already left. The small group that came in after us had received their food. Our server was still taking very good care of them. The manager came over and acknowledged that he knew we had not received our main courses. He said that there was a problem with the grill and that he had to check the temperature on them. He asked to give him a minute so he could check on it. He came back and appologized, saying that they had lost our order. He stated that it was being made right now. I told him that we needed it to go because we were so upset we didn't feel like eating and that my son and his fiancee needed to get home. They did comp us the food, but they ruined our dinner. It has been a tradition that we look forward to each year. We have been coming to this Hereford House on Christmas Eve for 25 years. There has been bad service in the past several years, but nothing like this. We will not be returning to this Hereford House. The service was totally unacceptable. There is no excuse for this type of service.
As always the food was perfection, the service was subpar though. My wife ordered the 3 course wine pairing with her meal and did not receive the different wines at each course. Our waiter didn’t know the deserts (4) that were offered with the meal for two, and I had ask him for my drink three times. We heard a couple of other tables around us with similar issues.
Our server told us up front he had an entire section to cover & was very busy. Really? You are short-staffed so it becomes our problem? The paying customer! It took forever to get our food & when it came the steaks were cold & overdone. We won't be going back..plenty of other good steakhouse in KC.
Been going here for the 1/2 price prime rib after a Chiefs win. The prime rib is delicious and ample. Served with mashed potatoes that are great and for $2.00, you can add a wonderful salad. You just cannot beat a deal like that. Always friendly staff and great service. What a great promotion. I hope they continue to do it in future years.
Food was terrific. Waitress was outstanding as the place was packed and she had several tables to take care of. She couldn't have been nicer nor more efficient. We had a nice booth for two that seemed to provide some privacy. All in all, a great experience.
We enjoyed a most delightful and delicious dinner with friends and will certainly look forward to our next visit at Hereford House in Leawood. The food was excellent and the service was great. Lovely evening all together with friends where conversation was so easy as it is a quiet atmosphere. Wonderful experience!
About 10 minutes after being seated, we had to hunt down a host to let a waiter know we were there (and at 5:00 PM, they weren't busy). The food was served fairly quickly but wasn't all that good, compared to a much more reasonably priced Texas Roadhouse. We do not plan to eat there again.
Food and dinner service was quite good, as always. However, restaurant did a poor job honoring reservation. Wasn't seated until ~30 minutes after reservation time. Will probably go to other Hereford House locations in future where I'm hopeful they are better at honoring Open Table reservations. They shouldn't over book...
I guess my expectations were too great. We sat near the kitchen which was very noisy, and had a waiter that never checked on us. Total time we were there was two and a half hours. We had to flag our waiter down to order our next round of drinks. Every time. My steak, and my wife’s salmon were tasteless. We didn’t even finish our meal. They were nice enough to take $30 off my bill, and gave me gift cards to return on another date. I left the gift cards because I won’t be returning.
Server was not able to answer questions about menu items and it was my impression that he was not a new server. The only thing he was able to offer about the salmon entrée is that he had not had any complaints. Two of us ordered prime rib and received KC strip instead. One of us asked for a baked potato with toppings on the side and had to request two of the common items usually provided at HH for toppings. One of us asked for raw and creamy horseradish and was served mayonnaise instead of raw horseradish. Apparently the reason for the error was the raw horseradish was placed in the wrong set up condiment container. I am concerned that this server did not recognize the difference. ???training vs server
