Herbie's On The Park
We were so excited about the restaurant week menu - everything looked amazing - until we arrived and found that the menu posted for restaurant week was actually from last year. The menu for this year was half the size and didn't look nearly as good. We ended up ordering from the regular menu and the food was just ok. If we had seen the correct menu posted, we would not have made the reservation based on what they were offering.
Beautiful room, great servers and support staff, good food. Will be back
We had to do a lot of waiting for service and food:(
Poor service, food ok, very noisy not very good value
Herbie’s is a wonderful place for brunch before a Sunday afternoon event at the Ordway! Food and service were excellent, good $5 Bloody Mary too! Highly recommend!
We were lucky to be seated near the stairs back behind the main room because it was quiet and peaceful there despite it being a busy Saturday night! The food was delicious, and our wait person was very considerate.
Friends 50th B’day celebration
Very comfortable setting right by the fireplace. The food was very good. Could have a few more selections and it was a bit pricey. A great place to go before the Ordway. I would definitely go back
we had a wonderful night. The food was great. The service was not rushed.
Great food. Great service. Enjoyed our meal. Will go back if we are in st Paul again.
The food was tasty going down except that the chicken in the chicken sandwich was undercooked, which we sent back and it was quickly returned with rubbery texture...like it had been microwaved. (To waitress’ credit, she took it off the bill.) Risotto and burgers were delicious. Cobb salad tasted good (albeit spicy) but both of us who split it had digestive issues. Desserts delicious. So a very mixed experience.
Lovely restaurant and super good food!
Maybe a better burger joint/sports bar than entrees & fine dining. Took them almost a full hour to bring us our drinks and our entrees were just okay after a long wait. Burgers at nearby tables looked great, and much quicker!
We had a fine dinner Saturday, 9/28/2019. The service was fast, and the lemon chicken sandwich and the cobb salad we shared were tasty and satisfying. Prices for wine are a bit higher than many other places, but the price for the hard cider was about typical for a wide range of restaurants. Herbie's is right next door to the Ordway and a great place for dinner before the concert.
Our server Mariah was wonderful. She was Friendly, knowledgeable and responsive to our requests regarding the pace of the evening. The food was excellent and Mariah had good suggestions for each course. It was a delightful experience. With one exception: when we arrived we were among the first customers. We were 2 women celebrating a birthday. We were brought to the worst seats in the restaurant. I asked for different seats ( we had reservations) and after a long and unnecessary speech were given the seats we requested. No one else was offered that least desirable table until a party of 3 women arrived. Unfortunately, it is not that unusual for women to experience this in restaurants. Had it not been for that, it would have been a perfect service score.
Herbie was not up to his usual standards: 1) service was slow, despite moderate patronage and 2) iceberg lettuce 🥬 in my salad 🥗 had brown pieces.😒
Great employee is Dallas. He is so personable and always remembers us You are lucky to have him
The first waitress came to my table and asked what I wanted to drink. She never showed up for a long time. So a waiter came to me and asked if I had been waited on. I said, yes, but I don't know where she disappeared to. He then took my order. The food took a long time to appear at my table. I went there to get the Lobster Roll again. I had that a couple years ago -- and it was great!! I understand the new chef took it off the menu. I am not real impressed with the new chef, as it took such a long time to get it delivered.
The walleye cake is to die for! Service is outstanding. Great place before or after an Xcel Energy Center event or to watch sports as they have many large TVs in the bar. Separate dining room if you don’t want that sports bar atmosphere.
Fun spot for Wild game
Great experience-we’ll be back!
I read other reviews & was skeptical about dining here. The building is gorgeous & enjoyed the atmosphere. All 5 of us had burgers so they were all tested & rated as very good. Service was good. We came early so not many people so noise level was great but as it filled up, I can see where it would be a problem.
Was comfortable to sit outside before show at the Ordway. Service was very good.
Very welcoming and attentive staff.
Enjoyed a dinner before the show at Ordway. Pleasant dining experience.
It was my first time there, but I have to say that I probably won't be back. There's just nothing terribly special about the place. The food was ok, but I'd have to say that I didn't feel the value was there. For the price, there are many better options out there.
SPCO opening concert of the season - enjoyed with close friend
Would actually prefer a step down on the music volume as I am not deaf and.really like my friends and want.to hear what.tjey have to say.without having.to ask for a.reoeat - not always possible.deapite the wood screen. It was a.giid band.but the decible.needs.to be less. Volume does not equate to quality ambiance, at.least.for anyone over 40!
Great service headed to Ordway.
My friend and I ate at Herbie’s before a show at the Ordway. We were seated promptly by the hostess, but waited for quite some time before the server introduced herself, brought us water, and took our drink order. We again waited longer than normal for a glass of wine and a simple cocktail. In the meantime another server stopped to see if we had actually been waited on. The server finally brought us our drinks, apologized for the delay, and took our dinner order. My friend requested her soup come out before her meal. It did come out before her meal, but approximately two minutes before the main course. The bus boy attempted to clear our table before we had finished. We were given our check, but had to bring our card and check to the server since she was too busy clearing empty tables to finish with us.
Our server was prompt and we received our food in a timely manner so we could get to the Ordway on time for Smokey Joe’s Cafe. My friend enjoyed his Herbie’s Burger (as usual) and for the first time I tried the mushroom bisque and the house salad and I will definitely be ordering them again.
Really bad food and bad service. We came here for a special occasion, waited 10 minutes for a table with reservations. Good came out all at once including appetizers, cocktails came out 5 Minutes before the food and my food was cooked completely incorrect. I’ll never go back!
Food, as always, was great. Even though there were open and clean tables, we waited for 15 minutes to be seated.
We had to get our own small plates when the appetizer came out.
We asked for ketchup and mustard, and the runner said he would get it. After a while, we asked the host (ref plaid shirt) and he said he would get them. Finally, the server got them.
Yes it was busy (concert night), but it’s apparent that they are understaffed or just badly staffed as it seems a bit chaotic
Worst service ever
BASED ON OUR EXPERIENCE I WOULD NOT RETURN. I ORDERED A BEER AND 25 MINUTES LATER THE WAITRESS CAME BACK AND SAID THEY WERE OUT OF THAT BEER AND WOULD I LIKE SOMETHING ELSE. WHILE WE HAD HER ATTENTION WE ORDERED FOOD WHICH SEEMED TO SURPRISE HER. THE FOOD WAS GOOD, THE NOISE LEVEL WAS OBNOXIOUS. GOOD THING WE WEREN'T IN A HURRY!
You have a beautiful building. To bad you crowded everyone into the front area on a Friday night. We were hoping to sit in the other area. Noise level is high but to be expected with the high ceilings. That also could be helped by spacing people out more. Needed more help. No one greeted us for awhile and back up at the bar. Food came quickly and was good.
Not a late night place we wanted to go back after the concert and they were locking the doors. Will sit outside next time if nice outside.
Great meal in a very historic building in St Paul. Not a huge menu, but everything we had was excellent.
Great food, great staff and perfect location!!
It was nice but I had my reservation for 830 and it was basically empty by the time I got there so i kind of felt like a bother. It was friday night too so it was odd.
Service and atmosphere was perfect. We had 2 entrees - Salmon and the Scallops - and is was ok at best, not great. Pricey for the quality. The watched the burgers coming out to others and those looked very good. Will visit again but next order order burgers or a sandwich.
This is a surprisingly appealing venue. A great spot for before (and after?) downtown theater/concert. Diverse menu and fun things on Happy Hour to share.
