Herbie's On The Park
Overall not impressed. Food was just ok, nothing great. Fries were cold when served and my meal was not what was described on menu.
Service staff were pleasant but seemed disorganized and were slow and somewhat inattentive, despite it not being busy at all. The food was good but did not reflect the price point. The drink menu was extensive but the cocktails we had were average at best. The sad reality is that the menu prices reflect the high downtown rent more than they do hâute cuisine or exceptional service. My advice: skip this place, especially if you are a foodie.
Very disappointed in a few things: We had a reservation for 5 and were seated in the bar section in a very tight round hightop. had to work around the table next to us for seating. Did not seem to be enough room for the table and chairs.
Also, service was inattentive. Had to flag down for water and additional drinks. We ended up piling all the empties on the table just to get them taken off.
First bad service experience at Herbie's.
The dining area to the right of the bar is beautiful, with very nice woodwork and décor. The service was prompt, and the burgers and fries were nicely done. It was a great place to eat on a Saturday night before an SPCO concert, being right beside the Ordway.
Food tasted canned. The fastest thing our waitress got was our bill even though we spent over $100 for two people. Would not go back.
The food was tasty and the service quick and efficient. The dining area was a bit too crowded with tables--it was difficult to squeeze by the adjacent table to reach my seat at my table. Overall, it was enjoyable, but I considered the prices too high per plate.
Server Christina made an Extra Effort to accommodate my Special Needs.🙂
Very Expensive - Food was excellent, but service was crappy.
Great drink menu perfect for pre/post concert or sporting event. Herbie Burger was delicious. Good selection of port wine
From poor seating when we arrived for our reservation (we asked for a standard table but were seated at a hightop near the bar area when, clearly, there were booths and tables that were open and remained open throughout our meal) to the "attitude" (bored, "there's nothing we can do to help you out" . . .) of our greeting at the restaurant, I was very disappointed. I've eaten at Herbie's before and I've talked it up to friends and family but our recent evening will lead me to opt for the much friendlier, much more-accommodating, much more reliably "Minnesota nice" of The St. Paul Grill or Forepaugh's or Joan's ~ all with equally appealing (and pricey!) menus but ones where service is still the gold-standard. I am sad to say Herbie's is not in that league. (To be fair, our waitstaff were friendly and warm but were not very attentive to needs like refreshing water glasses or providing silverware substitutions after appetizers . . .)
Definately fine dining and not a sports bar. Needed more of a selction on the menu.
Beautiful place, delicious food but VERY LOUD even when not very full. Kitchen was very willing to accommodate vegan requests but having vegan items on the menu would be even better.
Beautiful renovation of the Minnesota Club. Perfect for meeting friends, watching the game, or pre/post Minnesota Wild game or Ordway event. Service attentive and staff really pleasant. Lunch menu has a variety of choices in small bites, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. We had the Deviled Eggs which were excellent and different, the richly delicious Mushroom Bisque with Truffle, a unique Crab Louie, a scrumptious Herbie Burger with White Cheddar, and a perfectly grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich on Sourdough. Full bar and good wine list. The warm cozy ambiance with a roaring fireplace was perfect for a snowy Minnesota day. Highly recommended.
The server was nasty plain and simple. Very upsetting. The lamb chop was very fatty, no usable meat. Everything was over priced. The only reason to go here is the location next to the Ordway.
Pre-theater Xmas with family
Our breakfast food was outstanding and the service was great. The restaurant ambience was wonderful and it was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Great views of the Vikings game on multiple large screens!
We enjoy going to Herbie's On The Park whenever we have tickets at the Ordway, because it is right next door. The menu is varied, with excellent appetizers, salads, and main courses. The service is always excellent. Reservations ahead of time are a good idea, especially if there happens to be a Wild game or other concert going on downtown. We never get tired of going to Herbie's.
The chef cane to the table, that to me is a personal touch!!! I had the bourbon sauce pulled pork special and my husband had the salmon burger; outstanding!!! The Apple toast appetizer was SO tasty!!! Overall, we will make this our go to place when we're in the cities!!!
I got the burger this week and it wasn't even warm! Then I got the Cobb salad and it was DRENCHED in dressing. STILL. I love the space and the ambiance. I'd rather go elsewhere for lunch and stick to drinks before a concert or game at Herbies.
My son and I had a great time. The staff are so friendly and efficient.
We had a lovely evening before our play at the Ordway. Loved the views of Rice Park with all of the lights! The food was delicious and reasonably priced.
The service excellent! Great recommendations! The wine was very good but a bit overpriced!
A special occasion none the less! We’ll be back
I felt very rushed but otherwise great experience
Had a fabulous meal prior to going to a play. The brunch special was delicious, the service delightful and sitting in such a beautiful space is always a reason to return again for future visits to downtown St Paul .
Food was good with nice amount served without being overly stuffed. Liked sitting by the window in bar over looking Rice Park. Watching the game was a bonus. Service from lead server slow never checked on us how everything was, never filled drinks or water until requested
Food was great! Service was on point. Would definitely go back. Already bought a gift card for my parents.
We love the convenient location to the theater. It is great whether you are hungry for a full course meal or a cup of soup and a burger. The mushroom bisque was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. It does get a bit loud when it is full and everyone is chatting.
Like the view from the bar, especially sitting at a window table. Drinks were good. Found there was only one thing on the menu without garlic and that was the basic burger. It was ok but nothing special. Recommend coming here for a drink and the atmosphere. It's also a convenient location when going to the Ordway
Let's just put it this way...our service was so bad that the hostess finally came over and asked us if she could get our check for us and we hadn't even ordered! When we told her no..... that we just wanted to order our food she turned around and walked away! Waitress could have cared less about us and in fact was insulting. Terrible experience all around.
Excellent. Alex was a great server; she was prompt, attentive, humorous and pleasant.
Sunday night for dinner at 6pm and pretty much everything on the menu was out. Service was extremely slow. We had to ask for our mussels to warmed because we waited for bread for so long. Salad that was supposed to have dressing tossed in with it did not. This is my 3rd time here and other 2 times were great so not sure what happened tonight. I’ll chalk it up to a bad day and give them another shot on a different night.
We love the atmosphere at Herbie’s and the food is very good! Our service on this week day night was very slow, however. We even told the waitress that we had tickets for a show at the Ordway, although we still were done eating in time to scoot across the sidewalk to the show. Very convenient location!
We went there after a show at the Ordway. Very swift on seating, wonderful selection on the menu. Our steaks came perfectly prepared as request and very fast. Delightful desert and coffee. Highly recommend for that special occasion.
Elf at the Ordway
Wonderful dinner. Service was great. Herbies has a great atmosphere hands down.
Delicious food, friendly staff, bummed there was no apple juice (for my daughter) and the only other option was cranberry juice.
We had the Tavern Burger, the black wings, and and black pasta and scallops. The food, service and ambience was good. This place is a welcome departure from the typical fare around the Ordway.
Burger was really bad.. and cold. Mushroom truffle soup.. also not hot and EXTREMELY salty. Our food was not hot.. not great. Our service was ok.. but, nothing exceptional. Started at the bar.. just meh. Was excited to go here.. but, probably my last time.
The Brussel sprouts and cheesy potato soup were delicious! Couldn't have been better. We always appreciate going to Herbie's before a SPCO concert at the Ordway.
Amazing beet salad! Steak add on way perfectly seasoned!
Our server, Mariah, was fabulous. Already have booked another reservation and I will be requesting her again!
