Absolutely wonderful dishes, terrific value, great friendly service and overall a memorable dining experience.

My wife and I enjoyed the $65 a head menu that they select. The dishes arrived regularly and were all excellent with a number of absolute stand-outs. I'm not a great fan of vegetarian food but the vegetarian meals what was produced was unbelievable and easily the best I've ever had.

We came away greatly satisfied after enjoying a great array of food without feeling like we'd over eaten.

As a comparison, we went to Blumenthal's in October, and spent $600 and came away very disappointed with the food and even more disappointed with the value for money. For a third of the cost at $200, the food , the service and the value (everything) at Henry Sugar's was better and this is one of the best value and best dining experiences currently around.

Lovely bar/restaurant in a quiet part of Rathdowne Street, Carlton. The delicious menu was very well balanced and perfect for a wide range of tastes. Cocktails were offered and the wine list was very good. Henry Sugar is an excellent choice for people wanting exceptional service, a high standard of food, varied menu and wine list in an extremely agreeable setting.

Thank you for a wonderful evening. From the minute we arrived the atmosphere drew us in. The service was exceptional and the food was something else. I've not had an experience like it, but will definitely come again many times over.

Beautiful dinner at this lovely Carlton North restaurant. Gorgeous interior with warm brick and copper. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Terrific wine list and superb food. We were a table of five and shared the smoked cobia, sweet potato, broccolini and Parmesan chips. All to die for. Hand baked bread with harissa butter was delicious and the best crime brûlée I have ever had. Thankyou.

One of the best restaurants I've tried in years. The vegan degustation was out of this world and the service was impeccable.

Best chefs menu I have had in a long time. Playful, yummy and filling. Staff were super knowledgeable but not at all pretentious. You need to dine here!

A group of 8 of us enjoyed the tasting menu. We enjoyed most of the 'creative cuisine' with mixed opinions on a couple of the dishes. The service was excellent - friendly, efficient. Nothing was too much trouble - a couple of dietary requirements and split bill. Would highly recommend.

Great find, with excellent food, marvellous flavours, and an excellent but simple wine list. Try the "leave it to the chef" menu choice and sit back and enjoy the deliciousness. As we were leaving the younger generation were coming in for a late night drink, so it would be a good choice for a later evening tipple too!

Amazing food. A great local find and well kept secret of incredible food, from the in house baked bread to the chocolate ‘olive’ that accompanied the spritz apperitif.

Went here for an anniversary dinner - wanted something different and special without being ridiculously expensive or overpriced and this was perfect. Service was excellent; friendly and attentive yet unobtrusive. Had a lovely time and enjoyed all the food! The only downside was that a particularly loud, excited group sat neat us towards the end and the venue isn't great for dealing with super loud people so that affected the noise level and ambiance a bit but the rest of the night was excellent.

Great food, great wine, gorgeous ambiance...however let down by tardy service. Gorgeous bottle of wine, well recommended, was sparinging poured and glasses removed before wine finished. Had to point out we were still going. A basic error made due to poor communication between wait staff and head of floor. Otherwise...great!

One of my northside go-to's. That lentil parfait is probably one of my favourite dishes of all time. Everything from the staff, the ambiance, and the food are always brilliant - would definitely recommend to anyone looking for anything from a cosy local to a great night out.

Henry Sugar ticks all the boxes - incentive, delicious food, fabulous service and a great wine and cocktail list. I had the tasting menu with paired drinks and it was a wonderful dining experience! I couldn’t fault anything about it.

We had Henry sugar menu consists of 6 courses with multiple dishes per course. Everything was delicious and fantastic and we enjoyed all the food :)

This place is a brilliant find! Cosy ambience with a crackling fire set the scene and it just got better from there. Outstanding service - nothing was too much trouble. And an interesting and delicious menu. One of the highlights was a smoked mussel buckwheat crepe, which was amazing. Will be back!

Absolutely fantastic - can't recommend enough! Gorgeous space, really lovely service - went for a friend's birthday and they gave her a free drink, put a cute candle in her dessert and looked after her bunch of flowers during the meal.

Such good value for the quality of the food. Definitely try the lentil parfait and anything involving the olive oil ice cream!

The food was fabulous. Delicious and plentiful vegetarian options.
The service was great - attentive at the right time and explained the dishes with confidence.
Didn’t love the wine by the glass options (a bit too many light Italian reds) but that’s not a big deal.
The only downer was that the table was a bit tight for a group, hard against the wall and not much room for all the delicious food.

We opted for the degustation option and it was a cavalcade of taste sensations, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. All parts of that menu were great - possibly the pork was best but there were no flat spots. We had a great night and will come again.

This place is a real gem. The food is unique, yet good for everyday dining. The cocktails and wine list are amazing, and the service is top notch. The ambience is fantastic. I wish I lived in Melbourne, so I could go here regularly for a drink and tapas, or an interesting and healthy delectable meal.

The lentil parfait is in my top ten food list of all time. The tofu is a close second. This place is a huge gift to those who care about food.

Four of us sat down on a busy Saturday night after a comedy show. Our second visit. We once again had the chef's selection and once again it was stunning. Very well presented and clean. Every course was better than the last and every item interesting and appetizing. The cocktails were well priced and simply put delicious. Well priced for the quality of food and service. Neighborhood Gem.

Still my favourite restaurant in Melbourne. Great people out front and amazing food coming from the kitchen. Also, a great selection of wines. 5 Stars!
