HENDRIX: Comfortably Different
Great food, good drinks, neat place.
My best friend and I visited on 7/13/19 and we had a drink on the roof top then went downstairs for dinner at 5. Reservations were very easy to make online. We both ordered the fired oyster as an appetizer and shrimp and grits as are main dish. Both were delish! I just wish there were more items on the menu!
This restaurant has good ambiance, the food is great, and the service is efficient and friendly. There's also a roof top bar area to enjoy.
Excellent new restaurant in Columbia!
Incredible. Food was absolutely amazing. Service was just as great.
Their menu changes daily, but the food is always great! I can’t wait to go again
The service was great! They were on it! However, the food was not comparable to the prices. Nothing spectacular. Also, we ordered mussels and they were FUNKY when they were served. We sent them back due to the smell but we were not refunded. The upstairs was crowded and not layed out well.
Columbia is not exactly known for its foodie scene. This place made me forget I was in Columbia. Very metropolitan atmosphere- almost New York-ish. Coming from someone with fairly high food and restaurant standards, I am impressed and will be returning.
Entertaining out of town guests
Too loud for me. But some like it that way I guess. We were a table of 6 but could not talk from one end of the table to those at the other end.
Superb food and service. Best in Columbia. Loud but worth it.
We enjoyed the relaxed patience of our server who allowed us to talk and order as we were ready without overdue interruptions. The capresse salad is the best in town. Duck was cooked perfectly, and shrimp and grits was a great interpretation of the classic dish.
Really good food. Squash Chips for app were great and unique. Roasted Veggie salad was spot on. Vegan Paella was enough for two!! Sat in the restaurant and did not go to upstairs bar.
If Hendrix consider itself a fine dining restaurant and not a bar then in the restaurant gentlemen should remove their caps/hats. There were two "gentlemen" dining with their hats on. REALLY!! Greeter/Hostess/Host can gently remind gentlemen to remove their caps if dining inside.
And if dining in the restaurant, either inside or outside, wife-beater T-shirts should not be allowed. The experience of watching a guy with a beater T-shirt and tattoos is not a good look for Hendrix.
We had a reservation, so there was no waiting. Service was excellent. We started with the pesto gnocchi and then we both had the flat iron steak. Everything was delicious and the steaks were tender (perfectly cooked). After the meal, we went up to the rooftop bar and enjoyed an after dinner drink. We will definitely go again!
Great atmosphere, food was outstanding! Highly recommend!
Awesome drinks up top and then a perfect fresh fun well paced dinner. Great bar great menu and great time. .
Great new place in downtown Columbia Good food & service. Will go again. Great service by Natasha
Food was fresh and tasty! Will be back. Look forward to going upstairs to the rooftop for a drink next time.
One of the best dining experiences we have had in Columbia in a very long time. From the staff to the fabulous fresh meals we will make it a regular for our restaurant choices
The restaurant has great vibes and very rustic and artsy with beautiful artwork and canvases around as well as beautiful exposed brick. Super friendly staff that were very informative and attentive, very good food even though did seem like smaller portions but we’re still delicious, definitely will be returning!!
Checked out the roof top bar where they serve drinks and apps. Went downstairs for dinner, and my husband ordered the best duck I’ve ever tried. The service was great as well.
Have eaten there several times. Food and service always very good but late in afternoon (early dinner), the sun in your face is unpleasant.
New place in town. Excellent, but long stairway. An elevator is available, but they need to post a sign advertising that at ground level.
Love, the upstairs bar great view, and very nice bar, good service too.!!!, all the food is Great, my second time there, will go back, the only thing that was an issue, is the noise, and layout of the resturant, to much traffic, going from kitchen, and restroom,.
I had the pork chop and I thought it was better than Husk's in Charleston.
We had a short trip to Columbia planned and always try to find the best places to eat. Hendrix was recommended and did not disappoint. Great location on Main Street. Hip upstairs vibe with restored brick walls and tons of great art. The menu was fresh and creative takes on common plates. Service was awesome and everyone there looked to be having a good time.
Lovely, chic ambiance. Attentive, professional, thoughtful staff who ensure you have a great experience. The menu is a little limited, however its not your typical comfort type food style. Classy place. Went there after seeing it listed under several "best"categories in the free times. Celebrated my birthday with my husband. Our thoughtful server provided a birthday dessert. The rooftop seating would be awesome for a sun setting evening.
Very nicely remodeled restaurant with nice street views from the restaurant and a great rooftop bar above. The food is all locally sourced from within 100 miles or so and many ofd the recipes draw on family or Southern traditions. The shrimp and grits was superb, with a multi-vegetable garnish. The grits were ground in the mill of one of the owners' relative. The flourless chocolate cake and the peach sorbet with orange-flavored crystals were superb, but the shortbread cookies were dry and you could not really taste the dulce de leech filling. Overall, though, an excellent experience in downtown Columbia.
Wonderful but a bit noisy. Hard to talk. Music less loud would be better
So loud in dining room area that I doubt if any of us will return. Such a shame because the food & service were wonderful.
Great rooftop area. Food and drinks are very good. Service was friendly
The atmosphere at Hendrix is amazing - light and airy with beautiful artwork, high ceilings and hardwood floors.
However, the brunch menu was disappointing. If you are vegan or have other dietary restrictions, there is very little in the way of options for you. When I think of farm to table, I imagine creative dishes with freshly grown vegetables and herbs. This menu was heavy on meat and light on greens.
Will certainly return to Hendrix as we had a great meal and enjoyed ourselves. Service was good and staff was friendly & welcoming!
They did a nice renovation of the space. It is quite attractive. The wait staff is courteous and efficient. I like the smaller plates or tapas . These included fried oysters, pork belly, mussels, and especially the tacos. The restaurant is a nice addition to the Columbia culinary scene.
Best Farm-to-table meal I have had in a long time !
Amazing food ! Could not have asked for more, the summer salad was so good we are going back just for that...
All the traffic traipsing thru Dining area to go to rooftop bar was very distracting
Fabulous, unique food with a twist. Excellent service! Can’t wait for our next visit!
We went to try the restaurant since it opened recently. It was a little loud for our taste but we figure the younger set doesn’t mind talking loudly to their table mates. The food was ok. But I don’t really think the “farm to table” idea is all they should be doing. They offer peach dishes and peaches are not in season! Also. I couldn’t grasp if they are trying to be hip/casual or a nicer dinner restaurant. The lighting is bright, the music and acoustics are loud but they have white table cloths and expensive food. Not sure we would go back. Our waiter was very nice, though.
Not sure what I was expecting but definitely more. A so-so dining experience. If you want dinner- not the place. Bar food and experience- maybe. The halibut was delicious but one note. No bread, no salad and never offered second glass of wine. Waitress was somewhat dismissive.
Probably won’t return.
