Hen Quarter in Silver Spring has excellent food! We started with the crab hush puppies. They were delicious! Another person at our table ordered the fried green tomatoes. The presentation and taste was outstanding. My main entree was the Maryland Crab Cakes. Initially I wasn't sure what to expect. The waiter assured me that they were mostly crab meat and he was right! They were broiled golden brown and delicious! To my surprise the string beans were even delicious. They were not hard and they were well seasoned. Others at my table ordered the fried chicken, the shrimp grits, and the sampler. All were impressed with the delicious meal in addition to the portion size. Hen Quarter is a welcome addition to Silver Spring. It is a hidden gem that folks haven't tried or discovered. I highly recommend this restaurant!! Ben our server did a great job juggling all our orders!

The service was extremely slow. The waitress was very apathetic when it came to checking in and offering us updates on the status of the food. Very unorganized with the hostess running back and forth to the kitchen. Management should be aware of the experience that took place.

I've been to this location and the Penn Quarter location multiple times and something was amiss when I visited. It wasn't very busy for lunchtime on a Sunday which should've been a clue. When we arrived we asked if we could sit outside and they said it was closed due to weather. A person with two small kids came in right after us and asked for a table and they said it would be 15 minutes even though there were lots of empty tables. After we sat down and placed our order we noticed people were being seated outside which was very frustrating. Going back to the order it took 45 minutes for our food to come and after we flagged down the hostess because our server disappeared. It was very annoying since the people on the patio that arrived after us received their food well before us. The reason was that the chicken was taking longer for some reason and that seemed odd for a chicken centric place. The server should've checked in with us proactively and let us know there was a delay. There were a couple additions to the order that were forgotten too and the server needed to be reminded about again. Everyone has an off day, but she really was off her game that day. When we brought up the issues she apologized and gave us some coupon if we joined their mailing list. At that point I didn't want to press further since we had been there a long time already and extremely frustrated. That all being said the food was great.

Tried Hen Quarter for Silver Spring Restaurant Week. Great service, food, and drinks. Those who had the shrimp and grits raved about them. We had a wonderful time!

The chicken was dry and it tasted like it had been reheated. That was disappointing as it is typically very good. Also, the sweet tea was not sweet at all. I mention these things because even when service has been slow and disjointed, I could always count on fresh, hot chicken. I could also count on sweet tea that was just right! My server William was great by the way!

It was quiet when we had gone in. Not to many people dining and I think I might now why now. The ambiance is simple but clean looking. The waiter was very nice and kind throughout. However, the food was another story. The collard greens are very salty. The sweet potato was missing some flavor not horrible though and they through marshmallow on top not even toasted or somewhat melted. My son food was cold. My food was way over cooked. I took recommendation of waiter to get steak. I like mine medium. It came out very well done. The waiter took it back so quick for me and they made another one. I cut it while he was there. It was raw. When I say raw it was raw. I asked for manager, as this is not waiters fault and he had been very pleasant. She came I told her what happened including ordering kale salad that they apparently ran out of. I told her I ordered and asked for steak to be done medium. I opened the steak for her and said at what temperature do you think this is?? She said raw!! I said yes!!! I said I can’t eat this. She said let me make this right for you as this was first time visiting. I said you know it okay I’ll pass she said no I’m make it again and speak to them. I told her this will be third time maybe o should get something else. She assured me 3rd time was charm. When the 3rd steak came back. it was burnt and overcooked. You could see the burnt char in fact you could scrape it!! I at this point had enough and brought my plate personally to kitchen. The cook was mad the manager didn’t know what to say. I told them it was a shame and wrong and the third time why would you even serve burnt food. don’t think the steak could be cooked right you should have listened and let me order something else. I wish their was more attentiveness and that the rest of food could be hot not cold. Even the biscuit butter was so cold you couldn’t get to butter. The stress to enjoy a nice dinner out was ruined after even driving over 45min. I came in hungry left hungry.
