Hen Quarter - Alexandria
Book your next event with us
Brought the kids and everyone enjoyed it.
Brunch was so good! The buffet is reasonably priced and the “almost bottomless” mimosas were worth it. Highly recommend!
Friends get together and birthday. Our server was very kind and the food was really good
Food was awesome
Service was great, especially Courtney
Food was excellent!! I had the HQ chicken sandwich I’m going to go back today to get one to go!!! friendly staff.
Had a fairly early reservation (10:15 on a Sunday). It was quite when we got there. They gave us a great table by the window upstairs - 5 stars for ambiance and decor. Buffet was limited for the price ($30pp) with the option to add on more options for an additional fee. Personally, I wouldn't do the buffet again - eggs on the eggs benedict were overcooked as was the roast - no pink at all and completely dry. Basically paid $30 for some chicken/waffles and shrimp/salmon and an omelet which were all very tasty. I expected more for the price. If I were to go back, I'd order off the menu and skip the buffet.
The food was amazing, we had a great table upstairs, and the service was prompt and pleasant
Absolutely amazing brunch. Although I wish the "bottomless mimosas" were more competitively priced, I believe the value you get on the buffet by itself is very much worth it. Highly recommend this brunch to anyone.
Food is always delicious and staff is friendly and accommodating.
Good food! Great service! The brunch is also fantastic.
My friends and I came here and loved the brunch buffet and almost bottomless mimosas for such a great price. However, the service does need some work. Our waiter did take a while getting us mimosas and our orders and another waiter unfortunately yelled at myself when asking to move because he was holding drinks. The person that made the made to order food in the buffet also had a slight attitude. I have been here before and had excellent service. So, I assumed that this was a fluke, I will definitely come back again regardless.
Brunch was great but service was a little slow. My fried chicken was good but tasted like it had been fried in the same oil as fish. Had a weird fishy aftertaste. Almost bottomless mimosas were delicious. Next time I plan on trying out the brunch buffet
The food is fantastic! The staff and service are warm and wonderful.
The Buffet was a lot more than expected! In a good way. I will definitely be going back.
The staff at Hen Quarter (Alexandria) location are always friendly and courteous. I made a request that was accommodated without fuss. The brunch is awesome. There's so much food and everything tastes great. No complaints from me. I will definitely return.
My boyfriend and I love it here, we will definitely come back!
Fantastic food! The sweet tea is perfect along with the green goddess dressing on the fried chicken cobb salad. Our server was great and attentive ensuring we had drink refills! Can’t wait to go back and try more menu items!
Expensive for Brunch, but literally the most delicious brunch I’ve ever had! Add bottomless mimosas, stay a couple of hours, and your day is set! Fried chicken and waffles, made fresh every few minutes, an omelette station, grits, beans, shrimp, and bread pudding... what more could you ask for?
Have dined here before and the ambiance, food, etc. was consistently very good as before. Our server, “Lem Lem”, was excellent overall and we would certainly ask for her on future visits.
Loved the open kitchen concept. Place looked smaller outside but was a nice size inside. Chicken skin reminds me of KFC so if you like soft fried chicken you will like this place. Good menu choices. We tried the crab hush puppies as an appetizer and it was sweet and savory at the same time.
Great experience and can’t wait to go back. Waitress was extremely professional and the food came out hot and delicious. We really enjoyed the ambiance.
It was a wonderful experience. The server was excellent and the place was awesome. To my surprise they had cracking in the menu. So I was delighted to have an appetizer of nothing but the skin off of fried chicken. My inner fat boy was delighted. We sat in the bar area and the server / bartender took great care of us. Will definitely be going back very soon
Overall, the experience was fine. Walked in and got seated to our after 3-5 minutes after having made a reservation for brunch. Unfortunately after being seated, the server took 15 minutes to come to the table to take our drink and food order. This did not go by without the manager coming over to take our drink order prior. Once the server came, she was very attentive to our needs and would check up on us each time she had passed by. Unfortunately, during my visit here, one of the wait-staff had asked my nationality - assuming that I am not an American citizen. Taken aback because that question was uncalled for and unnecessary - I kindly told him that I was and the worker kept implying I was not. I will not be coming back to this restaurant because of this even though the food was delicious. This restaurant should train their employees on how to interact with customers and about good hospitality because unfortunately through this experience it was apparent to me that they could use a lesson in both.
We LOVE LOVE LOVE Hen Quarter in DC! There bourbon selection is amazing! We always go there for our anniversary dinner. Our friends came to town so this was our first time at the Alexandria location but it certainly won't be our last! The drinks, appetizers (especially the Brussels Sprouts), and entrees (yummy fried chicken) were delicious. Our waitress was fabulous and attentive. Can't wait to return!
Met a friend there for breakfast based on the rating. It was the worst breakfast I’ve ever had. The omelette didn’t taste like anything and I mean that literally; it didn’t even taste like eggs. The potatoes were crunchy, as in not cooked completely. Maybe the kitchen staff was having a bad day, at least I hope that’s the reason for the awful breakfast. I can not recommend this restaurant.
Tasty comfort food. Very nice, but not pretentious ambience. Definitely will visit again.
Great comfort food with a southern twist. Plenty of options for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Terrific location in Old Town.
Great southern style food! Everything was delicious! Our server, Lakira, was wonderful! Would definitely come here again.
Hidden Jewel in Old Town!!! Great place! Food was fresh and tasty!
Experience was great! Was seated right away even though we were early for reservation. Server was attentive & asked if we wanted more of the almost bottomless mimosas/bellinis. Food on the brunch buffet was just the right temperature. There was the usual brunch food. I would have liked to see pancakes or French toast in addition to the waffles but it wasn’t a big deal. Definately planning to go back & would recommend to others.
One thing to note, there are many stairs to get up to the main floor. There was a small dining area & bar on the ground floor. We didn’t have an issue but we were glad we didn’t bring our stroller.
Went for a late lunch & I wanted the HQ special but our waiter informed us that there were no collard greens....they were serving green beans instead. Very disappointing! but I got a Chicken po’ boy...it came with fries. Fried pickles were so good as was the sandwich & my husbands green salad w/chicken. Comfortable place to sit, eat & watch the hustle & bustle on King St. An enjoyable afternoon.
If you want to be delighted at brunch? Come here. We went with friends, and we did the buffet, however it is not merely a buffet. It is different stations of fresh, amazingly crafted dishes that all stand out on their own. The value is phenomenal, the deserts impeccable. This was a surprise find, and we will be back. This is a hidden gem.
I went to brunch Saturday morning for my husbands birthday. I was happy to take him because it great food and vibe. The mimosas were heavily poured so that was great! My 8 month old enjoyed the food too. The staff was great. The only thing I wasn't happy about was that the first time I cam there were crab benedict on the buffet and this time there was not. But other than that, I ate and drank well and my husband was happy.
The food was very tasty. The service was generally good. However, they ran out of chicken wings and catfish relatively early in the evening. That was very disappointing! The drinks were overpriced, but that is typical in this area.
We came there for the Catfish & Southern sampler. The server came to the table and told us they were out of catfish after she brought our water & sweet tea. We got up and left. Someone at the front desk were we checked in, should have told us they were out of catfish. Very disappointing.
On vacation from Houston and wanted something unique. THIS IS THE PLACE. Quaint, cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff. Born greeted us at the door and made us feel at home. Our waitress Stacy was attentive and made sure we were ok throughout our dining experience. The food was hot and well seasoned. The waffles were different with a sweet and savory flair and the chicken wings were to die for. If you are looking for great food in a cozy environment this is the spot.
Cute place; if you don’t want chicken the crab cakes are good. Not a “special” place but good for a girlfriend lunch.
Initially I was skeptical on whether we would have a positive dining experience. We arrived early for our Sunday brunch reservation and the hostess told us we would need to wait until our reservation time to be seated, which was no big deal. They were pretty busy. However, another couple arrived after we did (apparently with a reservation as well) but she seated them before us. When we asked to speak with a manager he was extremely accommodating, apologetic, and offered us complimentary cocktails. Our server was excellent and very attentive. I had the absolute best chicken and waffles I've ever tasted in my life! My waffle was so good that my husband ordered one in addition to his meal. We will definitely dine here again.
It was great and the food was amazing!
Four of us went here for dinner and loved it. The pimento cheese dip was great as was the crackling!
