When the server at this Southern restaurant said they were out of biscuits on a Tuesday night, we should have left. How is it that not one ‘chef’ in the kitchen knows how to combine flour, baking powder, fat, salt and milk to make a biscuit? My grandmother taught me that long ago. The $14.50 Smoked Old Fashioned was so sweet that my husband couldn’t taste the whiskey. My salmon was so overcooked that I had to send it back. And the succotash, the one dish that had real potential, was devoid of any acid causing all of the flavors to run together. The server was untrained. While I was waiting for a new plate of salmon, he came by to ask if everything is okay. No, it’s not. A better approach would be to apologize for the mistake. Don’t waste your time or money here. Hank’s is a much better choice.

This was my first time at this restaurant. The food was great! I had biscuits with honey butter and fig jam as an appetizer and it was delicious. I had the combination of the fried chicken and catfish for dinner with a side of sweet potatoes. The meal was on point. The ambiance was nice and our server was excellent! My family enjoyed the experience.

Always a great brunch buffet! Had to wait for about 20 minutes in spite of having a reservation, but is always a popular place and it can be expected sometimes. Noise level and is always high, but that refers back to the previous statement! Great food and wide variety on the buffet!

Brunch buffet wasnt ready so many things, like syrup and carved meats had to ask for or didnt get. Guy making waffles and omelets didnt seem all that "service minded" and the price was higher than other, better brunch buffets that I've recently experienced

Wow! Fantastic service!! We were treated like VIP guests and the food was exceptional. This was a special event for us but the folks at Hen Quarter went out of their way to make us feel special while we were there!!! So grateful!!! The Manager, the Chef, our Waitress.....everyone there was professional to the max. Best chicken in the area!!

Very disappointed with the level of service. Went for Sunday brunch. Upon entering the hostess asked if I had a reservation. I told her my name and she ok pick any seat downstairs which I found odd. There was a family at the far table near the stairs so we just sat a the table near the front entrance. It was cold out so when the waiter came I asked were they full upstairs and she said yes but ask the hostess maybe she can find a place for you. I asked the hostess since we are her for the buffet is there seating upstairs she said no it’s full. Keep in mind the brunch buffet is up two flight of stairs and I’m here with my toddler. So I said ok fine we will stay here. Go upstairs for food to see a pretty much empty upstairs and even more seating near the buffet itself! Not sure why were lied to however to have us to keep going up two flights of stairs with a toddler is unacceptable! They did the same thing to another family that came in the asked to be moved upstairs and they moved them immediately. I will never return.

This was the first time I been to the hen quarter In Alexandria. It was clean inside, the waiter and manager there was very nice and welcoming. They both checked on us a few times to make sure everything was fine. The brunch food was delicious, everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Overall I had a great time.

Visiting from Florida. We had eaten here on a previous visit & food was good so wanted a repeat. Food was great - only disappointment was it was Saturday & brunch menu. Saturday menu didn’t offer some of the things we wanted . The chicken & waffles yummy & husband enjoyed his shrimp & grits. I had a crab Bloody Mary - wonderful & husband had the maple old fashion- said it was one of the better Old Fashions he has tasted .
Will return & I do recommend.

This restaurant was recommended to me by my co-worker and i was excited to try it however it turned out to be a major disappointment. We went for Sunday Brunch and everything was mediocre. The plates weren’t clean, the food was hot but didn’t really have a taste and there wasn’t a lot of variety to choose from. I will not be recommending this restaurant or going back again.

The food was great and it was exceptionally nice of the kitchen to send us over complimentary fried pickles. Never have been accosted by a bartender before and made to feel like I shouldn’t belong in a restaurant in the middle of my meal because some waiter in training was there and needed experience. That’s fine, just please leave us alone and don’t make your customers feel creeped out and want to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. We were there for about an hour, so maybe we were there too long? Idk.

The food was decent. Succotash in National Harbor had a better Ribeye and Chicken & Waffles. Bourbon selection was decent, but my server didn’t bring me what I ordered.

Good. Some of us would have chosen the Brunch Buffet, but at more than twice the cost of any entree, we decided to pass.

Not sure if I will go back to the Hen Quarter. I had a reservation for 2:30 and when I walked in the hostess seemed to not know that I had a reservation and initially told me that there would be a 20 minute wait. After about a 10 minute wait they finally seated me and my guest. The buffet was almost over, it was $30 per plate. The food from the buffet seemed to be the last that they were making, so I decided to order off of the menu. The waitress was ok but seemed to not be that friendly. It was just an different vibe from the staff that I didn’t really like and the food was not all that. I may try the restaurant again, but maybe need to go earlier in the morning.

Been there several times. The past three times we've experienced glacial service. The dining room appears to be understaffed. Other notes:
- The noise level is so high you have to lean in and almost yell to talk. And this past time we were subjected to a large party with horribly misbehaved children who ran wild, literally screaming. This lended a Chucky Cheese ambiance to the affair.
- The food is very good Southern comfort food that's priced at fine dining levels. We're talking the better part of $80 per person for an appetizer, two drinks and fried chicken dinners, plus tip.
- Given all of the above, the value is severely lacking. We'll be exploring other options when it comes to comfort food.

My first experience there about a month ago wasn't great because we our service was bad. We didn't know who our server was because we had so many different ones. I'm not sure if it was because we didn't have reservations (we sat at the front window) or perhaps the restaurant was just too busy, but the food (crab cake sandwich) was amazing! We decided to give it another try and our 2nd experience was excellent! We did make reservations this time and our waitress was great!

Food was great. And because of that would definitely give them another visit.

But the service is another story. Staff was very nice, but it took an extended period time to get everything. It appeared as if they were understaffed.

It really made a difference in our experience which is unfortunate. The food tastes great, but hopefully we’ll have better service the next time.

Service was very slow and almost non existent. The food was nothing to rave about. The chicken crackling had no flavor and greasy. My hamburger was over cooked and dry and I requested it medium. My husbands Shrimp and Grits order was greasy and had no flavor. The green beans was still hard and the okra was very mushy. We were born and raised in the South and this meal was very disappointing and nothing about it reminded us of good ole southern cooking.

Made a reservation at Hen Quarter to have lunch with a friend. Both of us had infants and the staff were super accommodating to our needs. On top of the great service the food was DELICIOUS! We got the crab fritters as an appetizer and the chicken and waffles entree. Great food + excellent service = repeat customer!
