The daily specials reflect the chef's love for fresh seafood. Using mostly East-coast seafood flown in from Boston daily, the chef creates dishes like wild mushroom-crusted halibut on horseradish whipped potatoes and roasted sea bass on Caussoulet beans.
There is also a Parisian seafood bar offering towers of Plateau de Fruit de Mer with fresh oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster.
Always a great experience
Did Sunday brunch. Food was excellent and service was good.
Delicious chicken liver pate, although the aspic cubes were flavorless. Perfect salad nicoise, good selection of bubbles.
We had a wonderful time and our waiter Frank was great to us. Only disapointment was that the potatoe (ball) tasted like flour so maybe it wasn't cooked enough on the outside? We are coming back next Tuesday for the lobster to celebrate my sisters birthday. We are already spreading the word about the good food and the entertainment , the blues singing was perfect. I really like the restaurant!
Food and atmosphere were pretty good. The onion soup and lyonnaise salad (good bacon) were very good. Mussels dinner was okay (little watery and eh), whitefish was good, steak and fries were good but steak could use more color on the outside. Creme brulee and raspberry sauce was light and very good. Hemingway martini was awesome with egg foam on top. Nice atmosphere. Service was painfully slow. I'd try again.
Great food. Lunch service was a bit slow. Whitefish was excellent. Great place for special occasions.
Always fabulous! Lobster deal of the century! Bread worth getting fat eating!
Whitefish literally melted in your mouth. Service a bit slow but place was pretty busy and we weren’t in a hurry. Waiter was good and accommodating.
Food was outstanding...waiter very knowledgeable and friendly...little too noisy but otherwise everything was perfect
Wonderfull gurman menue!
Will be back!
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Our visit exceeded all expectations. The food was very fresh and tasty. The menu offers many choices that we plan on ordering on our next visit. The waiter was very attentive and provided excellent service including offering a great choice in a wine bottle. We highly recommend for any occasion.
Family dinner celebrating a birthday. Food was very good. The soft shell crabs were excellent. We got a free dessert for the birthday celebration. This is a restaurant in an old hotel reminiscent of a European restaurant. We will definitely come again!
Fabulous food, exceptional service, and charming ambiance. This is a favorite spot I go to any time I'm near Oak Park - and frequently make a special trip just to eat the amazing food in a Hemingwayesque 30's atmosphere.
Love the ambiance. Excellent service. The food was good but not many items on the buffet for the price. You also get a choice of about 8 entrees. Live music performed which was nice and not too loud.
Almost our 10th meal this year including breakfast, lunch & dinner!! Always excellent quality of food & service. We will be back again in a few weeks.
Our first visit to Oak Park, and we thoroughly enjoyed Hemmingway’s. Lovely bistro, with an excellent menu and wine list. The mixed grill of game was particularly delicious—perfectly cooked and nicely served. We would return.
Delicious meals. Out waiter, Tom was most kind, funny and have excellent recommendations on the menu.
Excellent restaurant for a special occasion. Food is delicious.
We love to eat at Hemmingway's whenever we are in Oak Park. The dishes are lovely, the food is delicious. We have never been disappointed. Looking forward to the next visit.
Our waiter, Arron, was wonderful! The food was subvert. ❤️
Great food like last time. I can’t think of another restaurant to have so many wild game choices. The beef Wellington was great again and I love my tuna Oscar. I wish our waiter was a bit more attentive. We were also buried in the back with the oddly slanted floor.
What can I say? It’s one of my favorite places....I’ve never had a bad meal or service!!
We have enjoyed Hemmingway's Bistro when we are able to visit the Oak Park area for the past 12 years. Every visit is always wonderful, the food is excellent and the service is impeccable, it is always a treat to dine here.
We were so looking forward to dinner here. We’ve eaten here many times, but not recently. What a disappointment. Things have gone downhill seriously. When our first courses were served, one of our party didn’t get hers. When questioned the server said they were out of her choice. No warning. When my and my wife’s main course came out, a key ingredient was missing, when questioned the server simply said they forgot. No apologies. We’re done with this place.
We celebrated our anniversary at Hemmingway's Bistro. We had been there before.
The food was delicious and the server, Frank was efficient and personable and provided great service.
Love the atmosphere.
It was Mother's Day, so one would expect it to be busy. It was packed! But they did a good job of managing it, and though it is a small space and the tables pretty close together, the wait staff did an excellent job of it. It was lovely, our waiter was SUPERB, and our food was delicious. It was a really nice evening. I'm glad we went.
Lovely restaurant, but because it was the day before Mother's Day it was quite busy and we did have to wait a while for our dinner. The restaurant is also pretty cozy so lots of people plus lots of servers made
for a busy, hectic night. Nonetheless, food was very good and well prepared. Cost was moderate but not
extravagant. Husband and I ordered one appetizer (generous cheese and fruit plate), one salad, 2 entrees, one wine and one beer. The cost was around 105$ The wine was good and a generous pour. No room to order dessert but they looked very good.
Delightful food. The appetizers and salads are especially delicious and the entrees are quite filling.
Service and food sub par. What was really frustrating was that I spoke to 3 different employees advising them that there was no toilet paper/tissue in the women's restroom Each said "not my job" and it never got replaced. All 3 were rude in their response (woman at the hotel front desk - who told me it was the bistro's job - 2 women in bistro said - not my job). Waiter inattentive and food mediocre.
Always a great experience ! good food , good service , great wines list , and beers .
Hemmingway's has never failed to provide us with a fine dining experience. Wonderful food, a great bar, and friendly, thoughtful service. A perfect spot for a special occasion, if you and your companions enjoy really well prepared food and drink.
Amazing as always! Thank you!
My friend and I went to Hemmingway's Bistro on a Saturday night. I love Hemmingway's Bistro. The ambience is charming and friendly. The food is always reliably great. I had the crab cake as an entree. My friend had the fish special. Both were very good.
I've eaten there many times, but always for breakfast or lunch, when the restaurant is quiet and the service very prompt. Saturday night is a very different experience in that the restaurant was very busy. And we were headed for a concert. I had to forgo dessert in order to make our performance on time. I should have alerted the waitress that we had a time frame. Lesson learned.
The shrimp cocktail is just a few bucks less than big main dishes, and what one gets for a shrimp cocktail or seafood platter other places is much more. This waitress wasn't particularly knowledgeable about the menu and French food, but in the past, others have been great.
Our party of five had a Saturday lunch at Hemmingway's and unlike our usual experiences here over many years, we were underwhelmed. Our server literally disappeared after bringing two soup courses. After 45 minutes of waiting for our plates to be cleared and entrees to arrive (4 out of 5 had cold plates), I went up to the bar to check on our server. Another server thankfully apologized, jumped right in, and handled our party from then on. Secondly, I had asked for as quiet a table as possible because one member of our party is hard of hearing; this was fine until a jazz band and singer started a very energetic performance midway through our lunch, for what our second server informed us was a fundraiser. We support the fundraising cause - but NOT in the middle of what we hoped would be a delightful intergenerational family lunch. We literally could NOT hear the person next to us talking, so until the band took a break, we abandoned any conversation. It felt intrusive and very loud, making for a very mixed experience this visit.
This is one of our most favorite restaurants in Oak Park. The classic cocktails and delicious food never disappoint! A friend of ours was visiting from Los Angeles and is quite the foodie-just returned from Paris-and he said the foie gras special was better than anything he had in France. Our server was phenomenal as always- Hemmingway’s is a sure bet 💯
Great experience at the Jazz brunch at Hemingway’s bistro. Food was excellent. Service was fantastic. The brunch is a little pricey but all in all a great experience.
Food was great. Servers could be a bit more attentive. Overall we had a very nice time.
Loooove this restaurant! service is impeccable, food amazing And a fabulous evening overall
Everything was perfect.
