The daily specials reflect the chef's love for fresh seafood. Using mostly East-coast seafood flown in from Boston daily, the chef creates dishes like wild mushroom-crusted halibut on horseradish whipped potatoes and roasted sea bass on Caussoulet beans.
There is also a Parisian seafood bar offering towers of Plateau de Fruit de Mer with fresh oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster.
Came for a birthday celebration. This was our first time. Heard good reviews of this place and they are true. We enjoyed our dinner and excellent service. We also liked the fact we were not rushed at all and could enjoy our drinks and food. Will definitely be coming back.
It was early enough in the day that we did not have to deal with a mad lunch rush. The food was delicious, we didn’t expect anything less as always. Always a treat to stop in to this lovely restaurant when I pass through Chicago/Oak Park.
Wonderful restaurant so quaint and hidden.food was delicious.perfect for our anniversary/valentine.
Lobster was over cooked and mealy. Pasta was so overdone that it was a pile of pasta goo.
Very good overall.
This is a nice place. Cute and cozy and they do some things very well (Steak Frites, desserts, good wine list.) But the menu doesn't change a lot, and some of the menu items are a miss. It's not cheap, but not horrible either. The service is hit or miss in terms of quality, but always friendly.
OK value for money but getting over priced when compared to other local restaurants .
Valentines Day dinner out. Love the Bistro
And it’s chef owner and great staff
Delicious food wonderful waiter quiet and quaint. Soup great bread
Wonderful food, wonderful service, we had a wonderful time!
What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Wonderful food, great music in a quaint, relaxing atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back again.
Charming atmosphere and delicious food. A true Oak Park gem!
Onion soup was decent. Soup Dujour was mediocre. Steak frite steak perfectly cooked after I asked for it to be put back on the grill it was delicious except the fries were soaked in grease. The champagne lobster was over cooked, chewy and the champagne sauce wasn’t good and very thick and almost the consistency of glue. Bread was delicious !
Great service and attention from the staff. This will be a regular place for us starting today. The cost is comparable to other breakfast places but the quality of the food and services is outstanding
One of my favorite French Restaurants. Hidden away in a hotel. Food is consistent and delicious.
They have an amazing Sunday brunch that is a can't miss.
I love the relaxed and beautiful atmosphere at Hemmingway’s Bistro. The staff is knowledgeable and very attentive without hovering. The food is always excellent, especially the specials such as the Beef Wellington, which was cooked to perfection. This was my third time eating at this restaurant and I am looking forward to going again. Their wine selection is extensive and very good as well. This is a restaurant that takes dining very seriously and it shows in all the details.
Hemmingways has long been my favorite restaurant in my hometown. Where we take people from out of town. Where I go every year on my birthday. This was the first time I was completely underwhelmed. Decided to order the Friday special, bouillabaisse, for a change. The lobster was inedible - overcooked, chewy and inedible. The mussels were iffy. The (one!) shrimp was fine. My husband had the chicken pot pie, which was a lovely looking bowl of glop. I would go back, but stick to the my favorites - the frisee salad with poached egg and lardon and the steak frites.
Did not live up to my expectations. Too much hype and overpriced.
I am a regular hair every time I visit Chicago. The food is amazing the service is impeccable. They are consistent in every way. ❤️
Great food and service. Pricey, but perfect place for special occasions.
A neighborhood gem, my wife has been here for lunch and really enjoyed it. We brought family for dinner and found the restaurant to be an excellent find. We highly recommend it.
Wonderful informed server. Been here several times and always happy. Ambiance is very nice and more like a downtown local place that’s a community secret. Don’t spread the word, haha!
The food, service and atmosphere were all outstanding!
6th time come in last few months as really enjoy lunch/dinner overall with great service as well thanks
One of our go-to places when celebrating. Traditional French menu for the most part, but everything is excellent, especially the drinks. The waitstaff are friendly, casual, and personable, making it especially cozy and relaxing.
Always a great dinner at Hemmingways!
We enjoyed excellent, well-prepared food and friendly, knowledgeable service. The whitefish and the beef wellington were delicious, as was the lobster bisque.
I have had many delicious lunches there but this is my first dinner there. The entrées were not as flavorful as I’ve had for lunch. Might’ve been a bad night. Unfortunately, in the midst of winter, the room was excessively hot.
Always excellent service and outstanding food. A treat to go to any time of the day
Great neighborhood spot for great bistro food. Never disappoints. Beautiful ambiance, attentive service. Usually get the white fish but tried the plate du jour Bouillabaisse Royals - fabulous!
Hemmingway's has been "our" restaurant ever since we first discovered it (2012). Whenever we want to treat ourselves to a very special lunch, dinner or brunch, this is our first choice. I've tried the whitefish, steak pom frites, the foie gras, oysters, and more. Always great. The service is consistently friendly, courteous and efficient.
Very pleasant atmosphere. Excellent eating experience. Great place to meet.
This is a great restaurant. Delicious food. There was a great variety of items for brunch entrees. The buffet had good options as well including bagels, seafood, fresh fruit, and multiple desserts. Very attentive waiter as well. Overall great experience.
The food was perfect and the service was excelent. Our server wes delightful.
The food was terrific. The saxophone was too large for a rather small space. Call ahead to find out whether the trio is playing.
We were there for my birthday celebration which was acknowledged upon arrival. It was our first visit there and we were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. We were seated in a corner and had a view of the entire restaurant. The service was excellent. The menu had something for everyone. They have Lake Superior whitefish and walleye on the menu which is a find in this area. Dessert of my choice was presented with a candle. I very much enjoyed the experience and will be back to try other menu items.
Decorated for the holidays. Really good food. Relatively quiet and special.
We had an early Christmas dinner with our family and we were not disappointed. Our meals were very delicious and well prepared. Our service was prompt and our meals.were served in a prompt manner. The wait staff were attentive to our needs and were knowledgeable about the evenings menu. Hemingway’s is well worth the experience and we will return. The only difficulty with dining there is the lack of parking. They do have valet parking if you wish to avail yourself f this service.
Great food and service!
