Nice atmosphere, great view from the rooftop deck, with tables available under roof. Service was good, very pleasant, knowledgable waiter. Good food, we had the paella.
If you want to sit outside you need to reserve a high top. Choosing standard dining (they have standard tables outside as well) and putting in the notes that you would prefer outdoor seating isn't enough. They will seat you inside.
The best experience for this restaurant is the view. It's not worth it if you sit inside.
For the view only
Sunday is low quality buffet- not a 'brunch' as advertised
$29++ was expensive for what was offered -IMO
Since we have had dinner here and loved the food, we made reservations on Sunday morning at 10 AM to take family. When we arrived, we were informed the bar was switching out and not serving alcohol until 11, so no mimosas or bloody mary’s even though they are on the menu and we were told to disregard that part of the menu. Once the food arrived to our table, we had to ask and then wait with our food sitting in front of us, for utensils and napkins to be brought out. Food was mediocre at best. There are too many amazing breakfast restaurants in Asheville to put this anywhere near my top 10. Only thing this experience had going for it was the view from the terrace. Will not be back.
The food & service was great and the views are amazing.
Unfortunately we did not enjoy our experience. They were not busy when we showed up for our reservation but It took the server over 10 minutes just to come over and greet us. We ordered drinks which took another 20 minutes to get. The food did not taste like what we expected it to especially for the price. Overall I do not think we will be back. I think a lot of there focus was on the people at the bar and the outside area. If you're going for late night drinks this would be a good place. But as far as a date night I wouldn't recommend it.
Food was pretty good! You have a lot of competition in town. Server could have been more attentive keeping our drinks full:)
Not sure why I bothered to indicate on our reservation that it was our anniversary...no one acknowledged it. You should probably just take that question off of OpenTable.
Music got turned up midway through meal & it was hard to hear conversation.
We will probably be back to try some small plates
The view and ambience was amazing! This is worth a visit in itself. Our server was not very attentive. He seemed rushed and did not refill out water at all during the meal. The food was great and they had a great selection and I felt it was at a good price for the portions. Would definitely go again and just hope for a different server.
Last time the food was very salty. We asked for no added salt and the paella was great. The flan and curios very perfect. Our friends enjoyed it. Overall, a good dinner, great views snd service.
Service was slow. Asked waiter if they could bring special dessert for birthday of elderly mom. They just came to table, didn't ask anyone else about dessert, and unceremoniously dropped a dessert in front of her and hurried away. It kind of ruined the whole point of our dinner. Some things on the menu were really great, others were just okay. Of course it is beautiful out there so you can forgive a lot. They need to make sure they are appropriately staffed, and continue to tweak their menu.
Our first time visiting this restaurant. The small plates were very good. The larger entrees were underwhelming. It cost $100 for two people with drinks . Two of our guest got something they didn’t like and the server brought Cuban sandwiches and they were excellent. I would order the sandwich if go back.
The food was good. My wife had the Cuban sandwich. It was really good. I had chicken with yellow rice. It was pretty good also. The chicken was tender and moist. The view was great. The only drawback was the service. It was very slow. Kind of disappointing in overall impression.
It was our anniversary. No one wished us a happy anniversary. Beautiful view on the roof and my wife.
Chicken sandwich needed seasoning. Very bland. Lavender lemonade was amazing
Great food. Great rooftop bar
Great food, real cuban flavors. he waitress was excellent, and the drinks too.
Having lived in Tampa for over 30 years before moving to North Carolina, we were very please to enjoy the Authentic Cuban cuisine. It was awesome. We had the Mariscos Paella and it was excellent. We will be back.
Excellent experience. Loved the outdoor dining - it was perfect. The food was delicious - we had the pork dish and the chicken dish. Our waiter, Joe, was great! Will go back.
This was a repeat visit and for a special occasion. Food was authentic and well prepared. We have roots to the Caribbean and the dishes reflected the cuban cuisine well. Good selection of drinks, service was very good. Great views from both indoor and outdoor seating. Location is near parking or an easy Uber ride (best during a holiday weekend) Would recommend for drinks and small plates as well
I been to a lot Cuban restaurants and the food was not good and not authentic at al.l.
2nd time dining and celebrated a birthday. Food was fabulous, service timely and professional, drinks were creative and delicious.
The appetizers were great! Unfortunately, the Paella was not great. A glance at the menu makes you believe they are proud of their Paella. But, it was dry and in bad need of seasoning. Skip it and make a meal of the appetizers!
Outside seating is wonderful, but hard to get. The interior seating is terrible. Giant booths for 6 but in a very noisy area and the wait staff can't properly attend to the table.
Four of us were there to celebrate a birthday and to enjoy the views from the rooftop. Neither the food nor the views disappointed. Service was great and we had a good time
Exceeded expectations. The chicken wing mojito sauce appetizer, cocktails and seafood paella were all top notch, as was the service. The rooftop is comfortable, spacious, and has amazing views. Can't wait to come back!
Service was excellent! The food was outstanding and I would return again in a heartbeat. The venue is great and offers indoor and outdoor seating with wonderful views.
I do not like writing bad reviews, but our experience warrants it. Some of the poorest service (if you can call it that) I have ever experienced. And apparently a disorganized kitchen. First, they were out of mint - a Cuban restaurant out of mint? No mojitos. Next, the food runner splashed aioli all over my skirt and top. A real mess. "Sorry" and an extra napkin, but no mention to the server or anyone else. The server could not find salt and pepper shakers anywhere for one dining partner. We ordered a second round of drinks when the entrees were served, and were almost finished eating by the time I caught the server's eye to tell him that if they did not arrive quickly, we would cancel them. My shrimp dish did not taste fresh, and my stomach is upset today. My husband's entree was dry and the paella needed seasoning (thus the request for salt and pepper). Granted we were there on July 4, but there were quite a few empty tables. Oh, and there was no paper (both tissue and towels) in the ladies' room, and the men's room was apparently worse. The manager did make an accommodation on our bill, but that did not make up for the mis-steps. I do not recommend this restaurant and we will not return.
Hemingway's Cuba is a very nice restaurant with a lovely outdoor rooftop area. Nice views of the surronding smokey mountains. Four of us dined inside the evening of July 4th. We had a 7:00 reservation. Our drinks and appetizer arrived in a timely manner but we then waited well over an hour for two sandwiches and two more appetizers. Our server did not give us any type of update on our food and pretty much became nonexistent at that point. We noticed other groups waiting and waiting for their food. As the evening wore on, what few employees they had clearing off tables began piling dirty glassware at the end of the bar. There were hundrends of dirty glasses! There were dirty glasses everywhere outside as well. I feel they were very short staffed on a holiday evening and it was an off night because other reviews have been good.
Great Cuban based menu for both food and drinks in a rooftop restaurant with views over Asheville out to the mountains!
Great food and great service! The food here never ceases to amaze me. The service is second to none. Great place to take a family or your spouse.
The food was Yummy. We had a great server. We chose to sit outside which was hot but we were in the shade for the most part. Great ambience esp. at night!
Tremendous views and on point food. Light fare even for a steak and plantain dish. Rice and beans were outstanding as well. Highly recommend !
Great food, great service and beautiful views
Beautiful evening, enjoyed the view. Delicious cocktails and food was great also! Will definitely go back!
The food was delightful and the service was top notch. Beautiful evening with my boyfriend. Thank you!
We went for Brunch to celebrate our 25th anniversary. The brunch buffet was excellent. A nice mix of traditional American and Cuban Fare. We arrived a little before 11 AM (when they open for Sunday Brunch) and the hostess offered to seat us right away. We were put off by the fact that a "manager" chastised her, for seating us early, while we were standing there. That was very unprofessional and unnecessary in my book. We made a point to find the hostess before we left and give her a personal Thank You. Having college aged daughters that have worked in the food service industry, while attending school, we know how stressful a situation like that can be for a young person. Outside of that situation, we would highly recommend Hemingway's Cuba to anyone one looking for a great meal and cocktails in a nice outdoor dining environment.
Great food and atmosphere. Great service as well! We will be back!
We enjoyed the atmosphere and the ambiance, always enjoyable and we’ll definitely return. Food is devine.
Had a very enjoyable time. Our server was great! A bit noisy, but in a good way. A lot of people having a great time.
Great service. Wonderful setting. Food was good, but not outstanding. Had the paella with chicken and rabbit. Meat dry and overcooked. Will go back and try something else.
Great setting (on fourth floor terrace), pretty good food (but variable from night to night), awful service.
I won't even try to describe the many blunders, from not assigning a waiter to our table to not bringing the meal for one of the guests until everyone else had finished eating. Waiters and management made profuse apologies, over and over again, comped dessert and a small discount, but a class operation wouldn't leave it at that. Manager should have comped entire meal.
We weren't upset, angry or anything, but we expect a certain basic level of service and competency, which we have had here previously here but not on our latest visit.
We will not be bringing out-of-town guests back to Hemingway's until management gets its ship in order.
Management needs to institute a training program emphasizing consistency and basic restaurant operations principles.
Great food and pricing for being in downtown Asheville. Easy to park w low cost.
