Hemingway’s Cuba represents more than a restaurant. It’s a culmination of a lifetime goal to share an authentic Cuban restaurant experience with the people of Asheville. Havana native and Founder of Hemingway’s Cuba, Tony Fraga, grew up enjoying exquisite meals with his father at La Floridita in Havana. The restaurant was not only known to be a favorite of Ernest Hemingway, it earned the honor of serving “The Best Daiquiri in the World,” according to Hemingway himself.

pulled chicken or picadillo ground beef, baby tomatoes

saffron rice, shrimp, mussels, clams, NC coastal catch, roasted red peppers, sweet peas; (additional $10 per person)
The food was not good. We had the ceviche and the tomatoes were not fresh ie the outer skin was wilted and the avocado was extremely mushy. The chicken dish had a chicken breast that was very thin and crunchy rice…..for $27 the breast should have been larger. The outdoor patio was nice but did not negate the poor meal.
We always enjoy Hemingway's but this time was a little chaotic. It started pouring and we had requested to be outside. We have sat through a storm outside before and it was fine. This time the roof outside seemed to be pointless. It's time to replace the awning. Moss tents are a great option for outdoor shade and water protection. We were moved inside and moved to four different spots once inside. Our server Aravlo? Was super kind and helpful but the whole experience was crazy due to the freak rainstorm. It's time for a new cover outside
Be sure to make dinner reservations as sometimes you can’t get in without one. They have an attached parking garage with valet parking which solves the difficult to find street parking in Asheville. Hemingway’s is on the 4th floor of the hotel. We enjoyed cocktails outdoors on the patio overlooking the city with a great view of the mountains. Went inside for dinner. Delicious pork chunks with garlic, onion and lime. Plus Congri = black beans and rice. Sweet fried plantains are perfect. We like their authentic Cuban sandwiches so much we got 2 to go. Service was great and the food is too.
We ate delicious food outdoors on the rooftop. The view and service were wonderful.
Food distinguished but menu limited — what happened to your Short Rib, as it was the best selection until you eliminated it??!!!
The food was outstanding! Everything we ordered was delicious. And make sure you try the churros!
Not very impressed by this place. We ended up there after a few others were full, but the menu looked promising because we live tapas. Unfortunately, the food was only okay, and the waitress who served us could only be described as disinterested. Not friendly, couldn’t answer questions about the menu but didn’t offer to ask, and just seemed to want us to go at the end. There are just too many other really good restaurants in Asheville…
We visited on a Monday evening with reservations. The noise level was extremely high so be warned. The view from the porch is exceptional and all of the staff are exceptionally nice and hard working.
Food was delicious and the service was fantastic! I would definitely recommend and go to again when in Asheville!
Staff, service and food were all excellent!
Food was mediocre at best. Noise level was extremely high. I will not be back.
Excellent food and staff! Great atmosphere on the rooftop!
We loved the atmosphere and see ice - bug could not enjoy the outdoor dining due to storms approaching. Overall wonderful!
We had a bunch of appetizers to share with a table of 4, fun experience and great way to try out the food. Only problem was it was a raining so bar was full and very loud inside. Bar is in same area as dining room.
Food was average, service average absolutely nothing special about this place.
Amazing second time reserving at this restaurant!
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the
Ian was a great server. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Birthday drinks and dessert!
The pork entree was awful. The manager came over and we told him this and he said, "OK."
We LOVE dining here! Excellent food and the outside area is fantastic. We always dine outside so we can take in the views. The food is wonderful and so are the drinks! Hemingways Daiquiri is a must have! Highly recommend this place.
Our kids came into town
For Cuban food, it’s fine. The Cuban was average but certainly would order again if I was there. The vaca was spiced well the yuca fries were fine but I would suggest an additional sauce.
Service was friendly but not very knowledgeable. Cocktails were too sweet.
Amazing service and food!
Took 90 minutes to get our food
Very poor experience for my wife’s birthday. It took 1.5 hours to get our food. We only got help after calling the manager. The waiter forgot part of the order and didn’t bring silverware. He seemed lost and disconnected. I got up at least 5 times to ask for something or eventually just got it myself. Lovely view but I strongly recommend against this restaurant. I could go on and on about the comedy of errors at Hemingway’s but we have already given too much of my evening to this place.
The masas de cerdo fritas and ropa viejo were good but not outstanding. The camarones ajilo small plate and flan dessert were outstanding. This restaurant's saving grace is the view. The interior is devoid of any charm or effort to create the feel of being in Havana, except for one wall which references the Floridita bar favored by Hemingway. The interior has the charm of McDonald's down to the plastic-topped tables. Noise levels in the restaurant were painful especially after some patrons had several drinks, even though mixed drinks are very expensive (ask price before ordering). Piped in music should be something like Buena Visit Social Club rather than the mechanical din that was playing.
The wait staff seemed to enjoy dumping and breaking beer bottles into receptacles near diners. Service is very slow. It is good that the restaurant pays its wait staff a living wage, but the incentive to provide good service for tips has been lost. If I return to this restaurant, I will have a coffee and dessert on the patio.
Great food, great view, great service. One loud, perhaps inebriated, table nearby, but not Hemingway’s fault
This place has the potential to be great, but we waited over an hour and a half for our food after being told multiple times by staff and manager that it would be out soon. Many around us were experiencing the same thing.
Good, very good, but not authentic Cuban black beans.
Fabulous food and views ! This is a hidden gem of a restaurant.
We were very disapointed that the only vegetarian option, Vegie Burger, was not available. We live in Asheville and so many of us are vegetarian that your lack of offerings feels antiquated. I have been to Cuba and there are so many creative vegetarian meels served both by the Cuban People and in restaurants. I think your chefs could well expand their horizons.
I sould not recomment Hemingways to many people because of your restricted food offerings.
Loved this place! Great service and amazing food! Plenty of gluten free options too
You are paying for the location and view of the restaurant. The food is not that’s great. Overprice commercial Cuban food. Absolutely NO authenticity! New Menu and new chef desperately needed. NEEDS MORE VARIETY & Authenticity PERIOD!! It was VERY loud and the service was poor. Hire more people at the price you are charging for food and basic drinks! Sheesh! I was definitely NOT impressed and won’t be back for a LONG time if at all!
Went for a birthday celebration. We loved the appetizers/small dishes, entrees and dessert. Everything was a new tasty experience. Everyone walked away happy. We’ll be back. Very clean restaurant and pleasing to the pallet.
Despite other reviews about the poor service, the service was very good. The food and the views of the mountains were outstanding.
Food was so good! Such different and delicious food! Will be back for sure!
It was a nice and beautiful atmosphere!! Food and drinks were good! Great service!! Love the churros!!
